Happy New Year 2025! I thought it would be a good idea for the first video of the yeat to be a shop tour. Being organized is important to having a successful, efficient workday. Working alone is tough enough to keep motivated so being comfortable is key. Hope your enjoy my shop set-up.

Great shop! One thing you have that I'm jealous of . . . SPACE! One easy improvement that you could make is lighting. I got some overhead shop lights from Costco that made a huge difference. Also, I am always reminding myself that surfaces are not storage. I keep adding pegboards and shelves on the walls.

@@blueshirtmonday Thank you. I know I am lucky I can move around down in the cellar. You right. It’s easy to use every available surface to lay something down! Definitely need some lighting. First need to get the outlets to plug into. Thanks for watching.

Hi Randy, happy new year. Shops looking good! If you buy a used walking foot sewing machine make sure to swap out the insanely fast clutch motor with a stepper servo motor. A cylinder is more useful than a flat bed. I also added a step down pulley to increase the needle punching force. If you can find a used Singer 29k clobbers machine from a retiring shoe repair shop I’d start with it. It’s my favorite machine. Most are hand/treadle powered but you will find it much easier to learn on and they hold their value. Stay away from those one arm contraptions. Finicky and hopelessly slow.

@@chrisginottawa Nice to meet you. Thank you for the tips. I appreciate your experience and sharing. I’m sure there will be a decent learning curve and I’ll be sure to look for those features.

Where did the drill press go? Your space is looking good. It’s all about work flow and not work design. As you do other projects you may find a need to rearrange again. It’s a process not a final layout. Enjoy watching.

Thanks. The drill press is around the corner with the sander. Probably clean up the end next. Maybe it will live with the table saw I never use! Your right, I'll be switching things around again for sure.

@@newapologist Hey, how are you? If and when i’m able to get a skiver, the np-4 from Leather Machine Company or a similar one will probably suit my needs.

I saw on their website that the skiver is only for chrome tanned ❓None of the other suppliers say that. Where are you located, just curious if you’re anywhere close to me. I’m in Virginia.

@@newapologist Videos I've seen, guys have said they skive veg up to 5oz on it without any problem. Maybe I saw that on Maker's Supply's video. I'm in MA. Not any dealers I know of on the east coast. I tried the Tandy in Boston but they still have the huge shipping charges.

I am jealous of your work area. I have one bench in a back room of our house. We don't have a basement in our house (I live in Colorado) but I wish I did. What brand of sewing machine are you thinking of getting?
@brillonleather
@brillonleather 15 күн бұрын
@@dangvalverde it doesn’t take much work area actually to get things done. All of the work I could do on my bench. I have a little room to spread out so I’m taking advantage of it. My wife and I did a road trip several years to see Colorado. Loved it. It’s a beautiful place. I have my eye on the Cobra 26. I think it will fit my needs. The Cowboy’s and Juki’s look good too!
