Leatherman Wave Plus and Leatherman Charge Plus Review

Here's my review of the two upgraded Leatherman models that were announced at SHOT Show 2018. The Leatherman Charge Plus is my new favorite and the Leatherman Wave Plus is a great multitool as well.

Ordered a wave plus. I just like the stainless steel look better than the black aluminum. Just my preference. Plus I have many pocket knives that I carry with premium blade steel already so the 420hc on the wave doesn’t bother me much. Ordered direct from leatherman and got a free bit kit and free shipping!

The sheath for the charge plus I have has a pocket in the back and another in front. I store 2 bits holder’s easily.

I prefer the Charge+ although I own both. It's the blade steel.

My wave plus from Blade hq, also has no + symbol on it. They must have used old handles for the first round.

They also make these nylon snap sheaths for the Surge and Supertool 300 I purchased them for my Surge and Supertool 300.

Only thing they need to do now is lose the pointless large flat head driver and replace with an Awl

Yes, I totally agree. I had the surge (which i had to send back because the scissors broke) and the toolset was perfect, it was just too big. But a wave plus with an awl would be awesome... hope they do it :).

Leatherman has a unhealthy obsession with flat head screw drivers - I don’t know about you, but I rarely see these screws any more.

I work at ConocoPhillips 66 and I see in a day 4-5 different size flat head screws or slotted bolts. We’re talking terminating screws all the way to an almost 1/8 of an inch size slot. I took the saw on my wave off and fabbed my lockout tagout key 🔑 to go in its place, also I carry the tool adapter than just wedges between the handles.... I works great! Greatly reduces the amount of tools I need at any given time and when I walk a job out and need to open something or any number of numerous random shit you can come across.

Just got the wave+ today straight from leatherman. It has the + symbol on the handle. I debated getting the charge + but I wanted to save a little bit of money. To me the 154cm blade wouldn’t make much of a difference as 420HC is so easily maintained. I do wish I had that gut hook though. It’d be great for opening packages. Love the wave+ so far though!

I own the rebar love it but i wish it had a pocket clip or add one it sits like a brick in my front pocket so i just keep it in my backpack

Charge wins outright. The materials used are far better. The 154CM blade steel on the Charge cuts 3x longer than the Wave's 420HC and then the handles on the Charge are much better as well. Plus the Charge has the belt cutter/gut hook on the serrated blade

I'd like to see Leatherman quit using these weird nut attachments for their things use a standard nut bolt washer what have you so that way they can be taken apart cleaned and perhaps maybe even modified to suit the person's need instead of having things all goofy fide
