I both bag and mulch my leaves depending on how many fall at once and so do most of my other neighbors. However, my one neighbor left their entire yard covered in leaves (like a good inch or more covering of leaves on the entire yard) most of this fall and left it like that during the last few frosts we had. They just raked them up this past week. And now their yard is the greenest and healthiest looking yard in the whole neighborhood.

Good info on the mulch v. bag debate. I was very interested in seeing you back with the EGO mower. A few years ago I bought one for my Bermuda lawn and LOVED its quiet operation, long battery life and ease of storage... BUT also found out pretty quickly that this battery propelled mower could not cut a Bermuda lawn when it was in its peak aggressive season. I was forced into trying to mow (at least) once every 2-3 days. Moreover, I noticed in your video that you had to clear out the wet grass that would hopelessly clog the underside of the mower. I reluctantly sold it to my buddy here in the Houston area and he uses it flawlessly on his St. Augustin lawn. I couldn't really afford to go with a reel type mower and instead bought a Honda rotary. It's totally reliable and does a pretty fair job on the Bermuda cut despite the fact that it's a rotary.

Hey Doc, the best rotary mower is the 18 inch Honda self propelled that has the twin blade setup. I can run through a 2 inch pile of leaves twice and it looks like I vacuumed them up. It tears those leaves up to shreds.

Doc, what are your thoughts on putting down charcoal grilling pellets(no additives) as a “cheap-ish” source of carbon for the lawn?

Compadre zoysia is fairly shade tolerant. I seeded it here in March. took 3 months to get 100% filled and look dense. And the side lawn is a small 1000 SF section with 3 medium trees, next to a 7 ft fence, and massive pecan trees on the other side of the street. And large trees to the east (it's an east-west street). I did trim my trees aggressively, or it would be too much shade, but it did great there. Probably not comparable to something like diamond zoysia, but it does fine here in South FL.

i got the new Milwaukee mower i love that thing it is just as strong if not stronger than a gas mower, i got about 6500sq ft of yard and i can easily get through all of it on the 2 12ah batteries using the self propel the whole time and turning the blade speed up to high for a good portion of the yard as well as it has to uphill a good bit in the back i highly recommend
@drewmaster90002 жыл бұрын
Doc, if you're interested in a different battery power mower to try, the Milwaukee is it. Not cheap - but power is not an issue! I love mine. Easily cuts a half acre on a single charge - even on high RPM mode.

Did have success with Celebration Bermuda in shade, put out about 2 pallets, under a heavily shaded area with Crepe Myrtles and another spot under an Oak. It took off in both cases. The color is noticeably different from the Tif 419 however. These areas get about 6-7 hours of direct sun.

Look into Prism Zoysia. It’s a shade tolerant zoysia grass. We may be replacing our bent grass greens with it in the next year or two. We have it on our chipping green and is doing great.

Question. Does a mulching lawn mower cut grass as well? Wondering if the blend of leaves and grass have a better ratio balance than just mulching leaves alone with bunch of carbon?

I don't think I've ever seen a Doc video with zero comments. WOW! Anyway, Doc we are getting similar weather in NJ this week as well. My question is on the Biochar. I've applied it a few times this year to my now 1 year old Sod. I want to add it during the cooler/colder months. My sprinkler system is already shutdown so I'd have to hand water. If the ground gets super cold or freezes after I water it, does this hinder the Biochar getting in to the soil as it would normally or should I wait for temps to come up to apply again? Thank you as always for all of your help.

Doc, Love the vids. I just planted a yukon bermuda lawn in may/june 2022. I'm waiting for Jan to apply my first round of barricade. Can/should I put down another round of pre emergent in Feb using the split app in the lawn guide? Thanks

Hi Doc, Awesome content as usual. I have a perennial rye lawn in NH. I was wondering if you think if I stopped striping the last few mows of this season it would help prevent snow mold come the spring?

For some reason I'm thinking you are in Savanna Ga or near it. Those temps you showed seem low for that area. I'm about 40 miles south of Atlanta and we will be warmer than that. I could be confusing you with another KZbinr. BladesofGrass possibly. Love the videos and info you provide so keep it up!

Hey doc, why didn't you lower your Ego mower to the lowest setting? Does your cool season grass on your farm house lawn grow better when it's taller?

I’m planning to add grass topping soil to my princess77 Bermuda like I did last year. When is the best time to do that? (San Antonio, TX) And what about biochar (before or after?), PGFs, Green Shocker, and pre-emergent (before or after?) usage as I’ve been using all of them? I’ve been taking it easy with the iron and nitrogen cause the soil I got was really dark icky smelling and nice, especially with the droughts we got last growing season.
