Lawn Guides → www.freelawnca... Doc talks about what grass to plant and why these decisions are made. Weather zones, sunlight, are just two of the factors in choosing the grass that is right for your lawn.

Hi Doc. Your new house taking shape now. AMAZING! I'm in San Antonio TX I'm seeding Bermudagrass, I agree Bermudagrass likes it short. I'm cutting it with a rotary mower but my next mower will be a reel mower. MacLaine. 👍 Shady season grass would be my suggestion because of your high trees. Thanks again. Edwin

Which variety? I'm in SA and seeded Arden 15 Bermuda last year. Only lawn that stayed green over winter on my street 😎

I have zenith zoysia on the north side of my house and it only gets a couple hours of sunlight in the morning and a couple hours in the afternoon and it's doing great. Blue heat KGB and zenith zoysia would be cool to try.

9:14 I’m overseeding my common bermuda lawn with Barenbrug RTF. I’m a zone 6B in NE Kansas. I hope to be irrigated by mid spring to help me get through July and August heat.

I just ordered some Kentucky Bluegrass - Hybrid SPF-30. It’s a cross with a Texas grass that is suppose to be: SPF 30 Grass Characteristics Increased shade tolerance Increased wear tolerance Allows sod to self-repair Competitive nature reduces clumping and of leaf blade width that occurs in other grasses with age Ideal partner in mixes with turf type fescure Aggressive growth habit Optimum mowing height of 2 - 5 inches

What about using Texas Bluegrass? Do you know if that is a more heat tolerant variety of Bluegrass?
@TheWrights-qf9bj2 жыл бұрын
For the Farm Yard you should consider Tahoma 31 Bermuda. 60% shade tolerant, drought resistant. The Superbowl will be played on Tahoma 31 this year as were the NFC and AFC Championship Games.

Ughhhh I felt so bad for the Tahoma 31 ppl when the Super Bowl grass was problematic bc EVERYONE loves Tahoma 31. It is REALLY nice.

I have Bermuda in my back yard but too much shade and patio doesn't allow much sunlight so it doesn't grow. My soil is hard too. Should I use a tiller to rotate soil
@BigAlby2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you are leaning towards seed but have you looked at something like Zorro Zoysia or a variety that is more shade tolerant than Zenith?

Northern Illinois, Chicago suburb...we had a neighbor who had a beautiful, thick green lawn. He told us to grow the lawn from seed he use to go out in February or March and put down grass seed (I don't remember what type) on top of a thin layer of snow. The other neighbors thought he was nuts until his lawn was established and looked great every year. He would hit up areas that needed to be filled in using this method. He never watered his lawn that much or had too many weeds either. Sturdy grass.

@magnuspiotrowicz7662 Жыл бұрын
Hey chief. I wish i could get your american seed over to sweden. But my wondering is how i can translate your zone into swedish climate to know what seeds could fit here. Winter from December to March with temps around -10°c to +5°c. And summer +10°c to +28°c.

What I don’t like about seeding is that I can still feel the lumpy ground. With sod, you get the fresh new base and it feels like a real yard

Why doesn’t Doc ever mention St. Augustine grass?
@xAToGbV2fl2 жыл бұрын
Most St. Augustine cultivars have poorer cold tolerance than other grasses, so not recommended for North Georgia. Some newer varieties like CitraBlue seem to handle it decently though.

I live i Georgia. I’m struggling with my back yard. It’s mostly bermuda and it’s spotty at best. The yard has a slight decline. I have irrigation system. I get about 4-6 hours of sun. We pay a service to treat the lawn. I’m frustrated that the grass is not looking better. No weeds though. What should I do?

@ripmaster8962 жыл бұрын
Cool season grass has to much disease like in his video spring season scalp that's and your always reseeding and it's to cold to go out side . And you can't mix rye grass with bermuda because of the reaction that the rye has when it burns out .
