It reminds me how the Arians were once the majority of the Church back in the 4th Century... but the defenders of sound doctrine remained in the Church until the heretics were expelled. That's how I see this thing with liberals within Anglicanism.

The Catholic Church back then was led by a Pope, a consecrated priest walking in Saint Peter's footsteps as the leader of the Church appointed by Jesus. All Churches who split from the Catholic Church have been themselves divided.

Interesting to see this video three years later. Diocese of Southern Cross has broken away from the Church. Affiliated churches appear to be non-liturgical or nor adhering to the doctrine and teaching of the Book of Common Prayer; some have women presiding and preaching at the Lord's Supper; some call themselves Charismatic. Hard to see why they bother to call themselves Anglican anymore.

Thanks for this. I'm currently considering joining our local Anglican church (Bathurst diocese) and these are the very things that concern me, so my family and I are still travelling 130km to a solid biblical/conservative Baptist church. The current minister of the local Anglican Parish seems solid and I'm told Bathurst diocese is not liberal, however we have had a female minister in the recent past.

If conservative Christians are always leaving then we are handing the victory over to the progressives. Obviously that isn't saying that there isn't a time to leave. It sounds to me of your local Anglican rector is solid then I would support him!

It's worth remembering that Peter Carnley's comments on "if a parish in my Diocese did that, I'd jump on them like a ton of bricks" was in reference to Gladesville Anglican (ie. a Sydney Diocesan church) supporting the planting of Central Coast Evangelical Church (now EV Church Erina) as an Independent Evangelical Church within the Newcastle Diocese. Carnley was not answering a question about what he would do if a parish in his Diocese wanted to leave his leadership and the wider Perth Diocesan family due to a disagreement with his theological liberalism. I don't doubt that Carnley would oppose an Evangelical parish trying to break away from a theologically liberal Diocese, but technically, that was not the question he was answering in his interview with ABC TV's Four Corners back in 2000. The reference to "It's almost an informal breakout, if you like ... the polarisation of opinion is such that Sydney people get frozen out" ... underscores the theological problem and rejection of Carnley's authority.

I know of an Anglican minister who acknowledged justification by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus, and in the same sentence taught that all Roman Catholics were saved. Is he a false teacher? Should churches continue to endorse his ministry, or should they separate and keep away from him?
