Probably because in the video you mention views and subs plenty of times. Had your channel grown to 100K subs, you'd still be posting here on the regular- at least you were trying not to hide it. Human nature to focus on numbers even if it shouldn't be

I totally understand where you're coming from. I'm really going to miss your videos because they're my favorite to watch, but I totally understand this. I've been really upset that smaller creators and minority creators aren't getting views because of BookTok girls. I'm mad about it too because I've been here for five years and barely get views at all doing everything right, and some girl who reads one book and is pretty gets more views than those who have been here on booktube forever? It's ridiculous. I think bookstagram is going that way too, and it's frustrating. Honestly, as much as I like TikTok, I think it ruined BookTube.

Also to add to this, not only do people not care about booktubers, a lot of new readers from TikTok don’t give a fck about reading; they’re just trying to be trendy or aesthetic which pisses me off

I left the community during the pandemic after being part of it for almost 10 years and the peace of mind I have feltsince, unmatched lol. Booktube stopped being about people wanting to talk about books and turned into a drama filled mess filled with people refusing to take accountability for mistakes and issues they have been on the wrong side of. Truly a mess, and I am so excited to watch you follow your passions and interests!

Myonna, I just wanted to say, when i first started getting back into reading, your channel was one of the first ones I found and it helped me tremendously fall back in love with. Everything you said, and everything you feel is 100% valid. White creators always get the most views and attention and POC/black creators rarely get the same love. It’s a pattern I’ve also been slowly realizing and it SUCKS. I also agree that BookTok kinda ruined booktube in away and it’s always the same books being recommended or videos being made about. Things just aren’t the same. I wish you a lot of luck and happiness and I’ll be looking forward to videos you’ll post and your new channel!

Hey Myonna! I wanted to respond to this video. I’ll be honest and tell you I’ve been more of a silent watcher. I’ve wrote in the comments a couple times, but I tend to watch silently on KZbin because I work 2 jobs. I have been supporting and I hate booktube has made you feel this way. 😭 As a black woman, I understand your concerns and will watch your content whether it’s here or over on the other channel. I was so happy when I started to find you and other black creators during 2020 because it made me feel good to find other black women who love to read. I’ll support you regardless and I promise to do better with engaging with your content. Thank you for all you’ve done for us on booktube! We love you! ♥️♥️

I agree as a person in other spaces I see it’s harder for black creators and I feel like you should do what makes you happy and where you think you’ll be successful. I don’t think you’re being defensive, it’s a fact, and if black people point it out and get backlash that kinda proves the point that no one’s listening to us. Hopefully you get more success and happiness with your other channel. I just subscribed!! 🎉

I love your videos so much. You seriously got me into reading fantasy books and stephen king novels. But as another black women, I completely understand why you’re deciding to leave. I try my best to find other black booktubers but they’re so hard to find because they don’t get recommended as much. Especially when white creators get recommended so much more. I’ve seen so many colleen hoover girlies get recommended to me and you’re honestly a breath of fresh air.

I'm sorry I found you so late ! I try to be consistent with telling KZbin what I want to see. You are totally right about lifestyle/influencers pivoting to book content. It requires alot of "do not recommend this channel" and "i'm not interested" and it begins to make me feel guilty because its nothing personal towards those creators. It takes 4-6 months for youtube to even present other POC creators to me.....I know if me as a viewer is fighting against the algorithm, I can only imagine how actual minority creators are feeling....I wish you the best in your future endeavors!!!!

Hello Myonna I don’t comment on most channels because I am subconscious on what I say sometimes. But I wanted say whether you read this or not that I thank you for all the videos you’ve put out on this channel and I hope to watch your new channel as well. It’s frustrating to hear that some people aren’t hearing what you’re saying but I wanted to voice my gratitude. Personally, for me seeing another black woman discuss content through this channel in general made me feel less alone. Whenever my schools didn’t discuss diverse books, I often looked to your channel and other sources because of your passion and authenticity. There’s more to you than your content though and I think it’s a good choice that you’re doing what you need to do to be in a better space. So all of that to say, thank you for being a safe space and showing how to be your authentic self despite the odds against you.

even tho im apart of finding booktube recently (a month ago maybe? though not from tiktok) i immediately saw the repetition from current popular booktubers (colleen hoover, ya fantasy, enemies-to-lovers romance, hot girl literary, etc.) i couldn’t relate to the books/genres constantly mentioned and weren’t getting different recs, i got annoyed hearing abt the same thing, from ppl who hv practically identical readings i had to dig for booktubers like you myself, ones that read more diversely, and even though you also talk abt romance, and ya fantasy sometimes, i was more keen on listening to you bc you hv a bigger reading experience(?), n don’t talk abt the same things over n over you got me into reading romance and putting the cruel prince series on my tbr when i thought they weren’t my genre, your videos were so fun and relatable and added a lot to my tbr :( i’ll miss you and i wish i found you sooner

I definitely understand what you're talking about... I remember Minareads made a video a while back how she also noticed how people would subscribe to her and then not even watching her content, and that just sucks. I will admit I found you when I was specifically looking for bipoc content creators I could support during the blm movement, but I stayed because I really enjoy your content. You inspire me so much and encourage me to read more! I will miss your presence here but I'll definitely subscribe to your other account if you decide to move your book content to there ^^ I also feel like tiktok is growing almost too big? Like you can't get around the shorts. It's the same with artists, if you want to grow a following on especially instagram you HAVE to make shorts or you won't get noticed.

As a small black booktuber, I understand your frustration, which was a concern for me starting my channel. I struggle to get views and feel most are my friends and family watching, and rewatching. I noticed something similar during the height of BLM & the Book Outlet scandal years ago where POC Booktube & Bookstagram creators received a SURGE of subscribers/followers, but their views always remained low. I think it was you that mentioned this back when it happened or possibly another youtuber, but it was as if people were just subbing because of that reason--not just to you, which I find to be a backhanded compliment. Is this phenomenon because of race? I'm not sure since I'm not a booktuber, but I can definitely see it as a possibility. Some people that are not POC will not understand this. Though I will say that there are other booktubers (non POC) I've been watching for years that haven't been gaining views or subs as quickly as the newcomers. I think Tik Tok really pushed aside a lot of creators on Booktube especially the ones that don't follow the trendy books, but even the ones that do, they get overlooked. 🤷🏽‍♀️

First I’ll say I’m so happy that you made the best decision for yourself. You deserve joy and validation, and yeah everything you say in here makes sense to me as an observer of BookTube - it is terrible that the hate and racism are louder than the love and appreciation. You’re spot on, you deserve better. I just wanted to comment too because this is my favorite time of year to watch booktubers best of the year books and I was like why am I not seeing Myonna’s 2022 lists? And that’s how I came to this video. You are one of my favorite booktubers because 1) I align so strongly with your sci-fi book tastes and your opinions of books are some of the ones I respect the most, 2) I just love the way you talk about and critique books, 3) sometimes I’ll fast forward through the romance etc. books on other channels, but I just listen through your romance reviews because I find your voice and delivery relaxing, fun and enjoyable. I look forward to a possible future where I pop back into KZbin and there’s a surprise Myonna video! ❤️

If you don’t have a commitment to making content, you wouldn’t get it. And I’m glad she expressed herself authentically because it’s a reality of living in the digital age, especially as a Black creator. You will be compared to others & that will determine the opportunities you get, your quality of life, the way you’re treated in certain spaces…There’s a reason she is comparing herself to others, studying the metrics & making the connections about how they’re working against her & making her unhappy.

Right it’s so weird. “I don’t compare myself to others” “I’m a super secure person” proceeds to explain how both of these statements are completely untrue. I’m confused as to what the point of this video is. It’s not racism if your content is dry and you’ve had minor controversies. Plenty of black creators are doing ok. Booktube will never get massive viewers. This is a niche category. We’re not all mr beast or markipkier ok. Booktubers are only ever going to do ok bc it’s just not a massive industry. This video keeps showing up on my feed and the more times I’ve watched it the more this screams a young person being naive thinking they were going to use this as a sole income. I’m sorry but thats how it’s coming across.

Honestly, sometimes I avoid reviews of books I haven't written (edit: I meant read... English not first lingo). But I love when people analyze books that I have read. This makes me only watch videos where I know I have read that book AND i even avoid book blurbs... I only average 1 book a month in fantasy genre, so I can't keep up. I think you are one of the creators that really share passion. So I want to keep subscribing despite your content maybe not hitting my own interest. I would love to subscribe to anything you do! And I do apologise for not being an active viewer! I also think you have such strong integrity and I, as a grown ass woman have felt I have had a LOT to learn from you on many fronts! I am happy you do your thing. 💗💗💗 You are AWESOME!

3:22 honestly I feel you on this point. It’s saturated with that kind of content. When I’m looking for actual commentary on book plot and themes, I get book hauls and reading check ins at every 25 pages but no actual info about the book.

Audio wasn't working so I had to come, leave, and come back again to have it work I'm seriously gonna miss you, girl. My life-size Bratz Sasha. You're the reason why I got into the Cruel Prince series, which was your brand. But I get it. End of the day you gotta do you and what's best for you

I completely get how you feel! If you don’t feel the passion or like people are going to support you in something that you love it gets really frustrating. It’s always a balance with making content that you the creator actually enjoy but also making sure that it’s entertaining/engaging enough that people actually watch. I’m sure working really hard for a video to just not perform is frustrating. I’m sorry you’re having all these feelings but hopefully something with the new channel or books can bring back some joy to content creating for you 😔

I definitely understand where you’re coming from. I’ve been here 8 years, uploading every 3 days for years, and still am only at 1,000 subscribers, and ended up not sticking to the every 3 days uploading schedule anymore. It’s really disheartening to see people who started after you getting more views, and then there’s TikTok.

I'm going to miss your bold opinions, your content and lives, and just overall YOU on Booktube. However, your feelings are valid. I experienced the same feelings and haven't even posted ANYWHERE as long as you. Being a black creator is really difficult, because people subscribe and say they support and they don't actually care about our opinions at the end of the day.

Aw as sad as I am to watch you go, your happiness should always be your #1 priority. I’m sooooo selective with the book tubers I watch on a regular basis but your literally my fav and I wish the algorithm or whatever it is would have been more in your favor because you are so pretty entertaining and like you said read every genre!!! I’ll go ahead and follow you over at your other channel cuz even tho I’m not a gamer I still want to watch/support you 😊❤

I don’t think it isn’t that people don’t care. I think they do. The problem is the algorithm and the notifications. I am subscribed to your channel and I have my notifications set to all but it is very rare that I actually get a notification for one of your videos. I do subscribe to quite a few Booktubers but the vast majority of them ai don’t get the proper notifications for.

Hi, I usually don’t comment on KZbin videos but I’m so sad to see you go. You’re one of my favorite booktubers but I get how you feel. Its sad to see black content creators disregarded and ignored time and time again. For what its worth, I enjoyed watching your content and every post. Watching your videos made me regain my love for reading again. I’ll definitely follow your other channel though, can’t wait to see your videos on there.

People love to be like you shouldn’t do it for the views which yes, we all started with 0 subscribers so we know that, but let’s bffr, if vids we spend hours making are not getting views, are people supposed to be happy and encouraged…be serious lol. It’s fun, but sometimes it’s disheartening so I 100% feel you! But I hope you find the love of booktube you used to have because you will def be missed! Also have you thought about starting a Patreon?
