As a South African, I agree the safety and convenient and affordable travel options are priceless. But these lockdowns and messing with salaries are extremely difficult to stomach.

Agree about safety. You should also try out Korea and Japan for your next adventure. They're like China+superclean when it comes to safety! I've never felt in danger, even walking around at 2am... and 5-year olds even routinely go to school on their own!

Chengdu is a pretty nice city, I've been there several times (and I also felt safe, and of course the food), but I can't imagine staying there now as a foreigner.

It's a good decision. I'm dual Swiss/American. I live in Vietnam as I'm married to a local. I never feel uncomfortable here, although there are certainly some free speech issues that one must adapt to. I had a number of friends and colleagues in China who were expats. They have almost all left. It's unfortunate but for many reasons that country has just taken what seems to me a very unhealthy turn. But that's for the Chinese to sort out.

Hope so. However seeing the situation in other countries such as increasing unemployment and severe recession especially in western countries, things are still way better in these perspectives in China or asia in general.

Very very very true about safety and convenience. The crimes that happen in China are usually petty. I remember my cop friend told me people usually come to report on petty internet crimes like an middle aged lady pretend to be young girl using special apps and turned sour when they decide to meet up for a date.
@LaowaiNiko2 жыл бұрын
China is a safe country in general & of course has many conveniences but like every country in the world there will always be good people & a few bad apples for example : the recent violent attacks against women in a restaurant in Tangshan by a group of Men. That was completely unacceptable & disgusting behaviour by them !
@TheNewGreenIsBlue2 жыл бұрын
True... fewer crimes that affect foreigners, for sure! More of the crimes of convenience/dishonesty/swindling nature. Like deciding not to pay a wage because they know they can get away with it. In general, though, fewer crimes that would directly affect a foreigner living in China, so that's good.

Yes, the majority in 1st tier City is suffering because of the economy and covid policy. But China is socialism country, human life above everything and the gov will hand out support for the locals but not for foreigners. So it's understandable for the foreigner's frustration and sorry to say that's how it's going to be until they found a better solution without sacrificing the life of the elderly, vulnerable, and Including the anti-vaxxer (Yes, the Chinese do have freedom of choices).

So is she considering coming back to China now that COVID-19 0 is over in China ? Or was it just a trigger that made her decide to leave ?
U know everyone says that chinese are hard and cold in schooling their kids. Thats the reason many chinese are tough and patience of playing any long game and stand to harsh time compare to these westerners. But of course u understand her family sick. But so do others too.

Staying in China to living there is good and bad. Most of the foreigner who are not agree or like the rules that China has… But other than that China is safe place to live no matter day or night. You no need to worry about active criminals, carry guns to robbing you. That’s good about China which has very strict rules for the human behaviors. 👍👍💯
