I've been to Chengdu, and it's true you rarely see clear blue sky there, but I think it is not because of pollution. It is because of Chengdu's geography. The city is located at the Sichuan basin where it gets about 250-300 foggy, cloudy or rainy days each year. I'm not from China but I love Chengdu 😁

Yes, Chengdu is not haze, but fog. China is not without haze, but most of the places where haze occurs are in the north, and in winter, because heating needs to burn coal. In the last five years, many heating boilers have changed to natural gas. If the haze five years ago was ten, it is about three now.

People now seems one side vision. They only equate Democracy = Freedom. They couldn't grasp that even without democracy people can still live freely. It's the policies of the government and the condition of the society that can best judge how good the country is. I grew up in a democratic country, but I've seen so much violence, crime, terrorist incidents and even if you say the wrong thing you can get yourself murdered. After finishing uni, I went to work in Hong Kong and stay there for almost 30years. It's the most free and safe I've ever been. The unrest back in 2019 has really opened my eyes to how media now is no longer factual but more of a propaganda tool. They will never show the whole incident or the whole story but only a snippet of what can convey their narrative. And people can be so naive and believe what this false narrative is when it's constantly drill into their mind and they can be blind to what they really see and experience. It's really mind boggling. The world egg on the HK violent rioting that they are fighting for democracy and freedom. But did they do the same for US Jan 6 or even the Canadian truckers. But how come no country egg on Germany to fight for their democracy. Their chancellor is not even publicly elected which is what democracy is all about. But they can still play with words that Germany is democratic. At the end of the day, we go to places where we feel have more opportunities coz we need that to make a living for a better life.

Personal freedom vs political freedom. In China your political freedom is limited but in return you have so much personal freedom to live your life. In the west they tell you you have political freedom yet I don’t see policies changing no matter how much you protest. Can’t speak for other countries but in the US in terms of personal freedom, you feel limited not because of the laws but because it feels unsafe, you always look over your shoulders paranoid you’re going to get shot or robbed. In the west political freedom is portrayed as the end all and be all but it is not. Even if you’re afraid to leave your house because of gun violence as long as you can complain about it everything is okay. It’s just a really shallow point of view on what people really want in their life.

They follow their big brother to against many countries, thinking there are too may enemies in the world. They are jealous Chinas fast growing and becoming rich as your home country including your big brother country are getting worse and worse for almost all aspects in life for ordinary people but only military related things are growing. Sad and angry to see the world becoming more divided between countries, cultures, races, social systems. More arguments and hate with more extreme ways of thinking to against each other. As a Chinese, one of my happiest things is that no matter what bad problems we have, the government always finds a way to solve them in a few years. China is a huge country and developed very fast. New problems will always come out. But we can always fix them. It's fun for me to watch everything go from bad to good. I watched my hometown turn from small village into big city. I watched the air and water change from dirty to clean. I watched people around me change from ignorant to well educated....All these changes make me feel that my life is dynamic and getting better.

As a British citizen who was born and brought up in the UK (originally from Pakistan) and visiting UAE as my second home, I moved to China after gratuating from university in 2018 to start my new life. I have no intentions of returning to the UK, due to bad past, childhood trauma and abuse, school bullying, and I wanted to get away from it. Those who bullied me in school are either in prison or passed away, suicide and drugs, well they put themselves into this so I wouldn't worry. I would love to visit the UK but never to return, I wanted to be in a different place where I can forget my past and live a happy life in the present and the future. I am currently living in Shenzhen and I love it. Was here during the pandemic, but no one wants to think about it. This year, I took my first trip abroad to Pakistan, best feeling ever after being stuck in China for 3 years. I now take weekly trips to Hong Kong from Shenzhen, life is now great. I've been to Cambodia for labour holidays, soon summer holidays are coming up, I will go to Korea, Pakistan again and Thailand, then back to China. For China national holidays, I may consider a trip to Australia for a week. This year will be the best year ever after being stuck in China for 3 years, a well deserved holiday.

I went back to UK in 2022 as soon as Boris Johnson cancelled of the lockdown. It was my first time in 5 years so it was all great fun for the first couple of weeks. I was getting Greggs, Kebabs and drinking Irn-Bru. Seeing old friends and visiting all my old university and places I used to go. The novelty soon worn off and the thought of living back in UK crushed me. I mean I have always been on the ball with what US Federal Reserve was doing so I was expecting massive inflations, but it wasn't just the impending cost-of-living crisis, It was the degradation of infrastructure and how not a lot has changes. Motorway stayed the same size when there are now significantly more cars, pot holes everywhere. Streets are way more dirty than I remembered and a lot more homeless people. So off I went back to Hong Kong. Came 2023 March and China also opened back up so I took the plunge and did this massive 2500km trip covering Wuhan, Xian, Chengdu, Chongqing. The difference between UK and China was night and day. Super App, Robots, cheap and reliable transports, cheap food and accommodations. The living standard was just incredible and by the look of things the momentum forward is still there whereas UK felt like it's stagnating. So yeah, I can definitely understand you. You are not considering going back because you want to. You are considering because you have to.

You are right on the money here, my family and I lived in China for 4 years and we came back to the UK 2 years ago and we are going back to China in a few months. The standard of living, education, healthcare, affordability of just surviving is so bad in the UK it has really changed and is still on a downward slide.
