Exactly. How can we expect to show up in this world or find love if we hate any part of ourselves? I dislike not hate just disliked my body and complexion bcus I am the only thick dark chocolate kinkier hair one in my family. There was a lot of colorism and body segregation in blk families bcus of society and beliefs during enslavement that was carried on for several decades after it was abolished. It is still going on in 2k24 but not as badly. Ppl don't realize that we must do better once we know better. That means fix your insecurities from childhood trauma and walk away from non positive beliefs so that we don't keep repeating the cycles of abuse for our children. I'm so greatful for the natural hair movement. I was born with long thick hair but I knew NOTHING about it and thie community helped me.

My natural hair has triggered other Black people. I expect the negativity from non Black people but I was shocked when I experienced from my own people. Not anymore but I still noticed it creates a discussion amongst them. Last year I went swimming. I had 2 strand twist during the swim. Well that night, I washed, moisturized and retwisted. I saw a few people from the pool party the next day and they were shocked because ish was shining, big and thick. I think they expected me to look raggedy. Mind all of those women refused to get in the pool because of their relaxers or lacefront. My natural hair gave me nothing but options. I love it

Thank you for this video. Please say it louder for those at the back. Over 20 years back to natural and I'm never going back🤷🏾♀️ I'm all about healthy hair and follicles. The texturism, length bias and curl definition obsession for afro hair is for the birds. During the pandemic, I unfollowed all the influencers whose hair texture was not like mine. I realised they weren't relatable and woke up. I didn't see the point when products would behave differently in their hair compared to mine. Enough was enough.

I love my hair now - it only happened because I got to know her. I got to know how to take care of her. Also, my hair looks soooo much better than it did relaxed. If you don't want to be natural anymore, then don't, why make announcements and proclamations about why you hate natural hair and spread negativity about it. It's really disrespectful. Leave in peace and silence. The negativity screams "I hate myself". And yes the media definitely plays a part. Hot Take: Sometimes people call something problematic or intellectualize something to justify their choices. They go on these long rants and do these long video essays about the history of hair and about why the natural hair community and the typing system is problematic all to say: “I want a perm and extensions yall” 😂😂😂 But no one wants to be accused of not loving their natural hair so they attach all this intellectualism to it and it’s ridiculous. I can’t stand when people do that. I’ve had natural hair my entire life all through the 90s back when clowning natural hair was constant and I was made fun of daily, so I find it hilarious that anyone could deem women who have natural hair to be n*zis and not the overwhelming majority of people who shame us for growing hair out of our scalp. we have all had to live in this anti-black texurist society for decades. Most of us have hair horror stories around trying to fit a standard of beauty that was never a reflection of our phenotype, yet they deem the natural hair community problematic. How many of us have hair that can never be regrown in certain spots, horror stories about comments from all types of people about our hair, etc all to achieve straight hair. I cannot. This is not to say their aren’t extremists in the natural hair community, but they are not the overwhelming majority of women with natural hair. And making it seem that way is just an effort to justify their choices to leave the community. Just say you want straight hair and that embracing your hair is not something you want to do. I can’t stand all the intellectualizing people do about why the natural hair community is toxic. No, our texturist society is toxic. Certain people with natural hair who demonize others for their hair choices are toxic. But the natural hair community is not inherently toxic. And don’t have me writing another essay about the people who claim it’s too difficult. I live in GA so it’s absolutely hilarious to me that women will try to convince me that maintaining straight hair in a climate that has 70% humidity most of the time is “easier” 😂. Idc what anyone does with their hair. Shoot, I dyed my hair for the first time in 33 years. I think people should experiment and have fun. But stop the lying about why you are making certain choices and leave the natural hair community alone. They sound like the rappers that lie and say their teachers told them they were gonna be losers when they grew up. Stop it, no one told you that you just wanted to be a rapper 😂

I just saw a video like you described the other day. The woman was saying that caring for natural hair IS difficult, and so women “benefit “ from using texturisers because of less breakage…it was just dumb. Half of what she said wasn’t even true…and my only takeaway was she was telling women it’s okay to use chemicals. My point is…if you want to use that…or “training” your curls…do that…but what we don’t need is misinformation and made up reasons why OUR hair is so “difficult”.

This is such a timely video, I love it!. The first time I was a loose natural I kept wearing stretched styles and I told myself it was because it's more manageable when it's stretched. This time around it's been 6 months, and I haven't done any stretched or twist-out styles. I find that my detangling isn't any worse when I wear my hair in a fro during the week, and I don't get any single strand knots either. I had to get comfortable with my hair being shrunken, and I feel so much more confident now. I even like how my hair feels and its shrunken state. It feels much more healthy and moisturized because that's how it's supposed to be. Acceptance of my 4c has made life so much easier.

@JGT3186 ай бұрын
@@kkallsop I will admit that detangling is not a breeze, but it really isn't bad. I think it has a lot do with making sure it gets steam from the shower throughout the week, adding more moisturizing products until if necessary and then my wash process. I drench my hair smooth in a cheaper conditioner that's really slippery to use my palms to take small clumps and smooth shed hair out, rinse, then my shampoo, rinse and get more sheds out, and them my good conditioner. By the time I get here as long as I make sure each has a a good amount of water with the conditioner, I can get my wide tooth comb in and do a thorough detangle. I finally came to the realization that if I can get the normal shed hairs out before I detangle I have a lot less difficulty and breakage. Many people do their detangling before they wash and out of the shower but that causes a lot more breakage for me. Also, it takes less time then the way I used to do it. There is something about the water pressure pushing shed hair out.

No cap. It is hard to have natural hair when you work with the dominant culture every day. When I have braids or flat iron it or cut it, they say "oh I really like your hair". Well, I really liked my hair when it was full and big. I cut my hair because it was thinning and it was shedding badly. Therefore, I went back to basics and the Science of Black Hair. I learned why my hair was thinning and shedding. It was due to infrequent washes and products that were not good for my hair. Therefore, I am restarting this journey from the beginning and recommitting to take care of my hair. I didn't take of care of my hair the way I should because the stress of work and managing a chronic illness as well as taking care of my dog. Something had to give; it was my hair. However, loving my hair is a part of my self-esteem. If I decide to relax my hair then I know I have valued palm-colored people's opinions of who I am more than my opinion of myself. I have gray hair and I am allowing it to grow out. Some of it curls, and some of it doesn't; however, I am going to love it fiercely. Loving my hair fiercely means despite what other people think.

Overall, I am grateful to have had people in 2008 to show me what my hair was capable of. My hair was fine but my mother relaxed it when I was 4 or 5, so when I started styling myself as a teen, I had no clue where to being. Once I moved out at 18, I was relaxing it myself and it ‘healthy’, but I didn’t actually know why I was applying a relaxer or what products my hair needed. Watching men and women on KZbin go through trial and error with their hair gave me a starting point to safely experiment with my own. I’ve big chopped and cut off damage multiple times over the years, but I’ve ultimately fallen more in love my hair along the way. This was especially important since my mom’s family is white and I live in predominantly white areas my entire life. Without the black community on youtube, I would’ve been almost completely isolated from people who look like me.

Say it louder for the kinks in the back- 📢 STOP WATCHING THEM! I still subscribe to different texture channels because I have daughters with similar texture but I only watch as an occasional educational resource. I literally FEED my hair spirit with proud 4c creators like you, Jenn, Starpuppy, Adanna, Jess, Green Beauty… the list goes on and on!

A young lady at church asked me if I know of a salon that would be good for her to get a relaxer. I told her no but I would ask around. I thought it was kind of odd at first that she asked me because I don’t have a relaxer. And none of the black womenI know well in the local area have relaxers and apparently she’s in the same boat. I suggested she ask a woman on the street or store whose hair she thinks looks good. I didn’t ask why she wants a relaxer or try to talk her out of it. Although I don’t relax it doesn’t bother me if other people do. It annoys me when they speak negatively about natural hair or their natural hair. I don’t want to hear all that. Oddly enough I have been asked before by a stranger if I know/can suggest someone for a sewin. Not only was I not in a sew in but I have never had a sewin. I don’t know why anyone would figure I know this stuff. 😂

This was so needed, thank you ❤. I am so tired of people pretending that just cause we all decided to stop using perms that we are in some type of movement. Like how was the movement a ‘failure’? Ion remember no community meetings, so what are they going on about? I just know perms was never the answer, I genuinely think they should be taken off the shelves they are that dangerous.

I LOVE OUR Natural hair Community! 💜👑💜
@vanessav6927 ай бұрын
When people say they have left the community I find it's more that they don't engage and interact with groups and pages vs not watching videos or not liking their hair. I disengaged from several loc and natural hair groups because I just didn't like the vibe, bickering and the people demanding everyone say the exact same things or you,re a problem. So I left them all. Still stayed natural.

My opinion is as Black people we have to start thinking as individuals free to do what we choose with our hair and our lives.

Yeah! I mean, when i went natural, I almost got swept up into comparing my hair to some influencers but then I started unfollowing them and following ppl like you, sister! And i loved my loose natural hair. Im 7.5 years locd now. Love my hair but i def struggle with the natural hair anxiety at times. I am fearfully and wonderfully made by the Most High God. He made no mistakes in creating me. I praise and thank God for you. U are definitely impacting this community for Gods glory.
