I have just left the UPCI about 4 months ago. Every single thing she said is 100 percent true and accurate. The doctrines, the holiness standards, the control over who you talked to, who you dated, married, jobs you could take, when buying a house, not allowed to move without permission, vacations etc. there are some of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet in the UPCI when you are one of them and comply to everything. But as soon as you leave it all goes away or if you ask questions/don’t comply to everything it’s a different story. For me I disagreed with the control and handling of people for years but once I studied out church history and specific doctrines like the trinity and salvation etc is when we decided finally to leave. And everything she says about what it’s like to leave is soooo true. Appreciated this interview

I've attended a UPC church for over 30 years. Sounds like this young lady had an experience with a 'bad' church, which every denomination/movement has. Sadly, so many misrepresentations in this video. I would urge caution labeling a church/movement a cult when there is a lack of contextual understanding of their doctrine.

I was hoping you would at least bring some specific scriptures to refute what they believe, especially since you proclaim that they do not preach the Gospel. I didn't see you preaching the Gospel either. My question is do you see everyone preaching or believing different to what you believe at the moment to be a cult? All heard was a lot of scoffing without any backup of what you actually believe. Not very up building. We are actually not called to this as children of God. Everything needs to be backed by the word of God. I know of people who also go out against the Assemblies of God. I think there are people speaking out against every denominational and non-denominational organization. Why can't Christians just preach the Gospel from the word of God as they were called to?😦

Your experience is so sad. I was in UPC/Apostalic/Holiness for years and had a very opposite experience😅! Tho' I am no longer attending a like church, I have many friends and family still in these groups. I am a female CALLED OF GOD licensed /ordained, seminary trained, Holy Ghost filled, baltized in Jesus Name , A/G female minister/pastor in good standing. I baptize in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost which is the Name of Jesus! (These words exactly) Scripture : ((I AND MY Father are one. )) The traces of legalism you mention I do not hold to. I preach & teach The Word of God, rightly divided & in context ALWAYS! This def NOT the absolute for every assembly of these groups! Please be careful NOT to allude that this is every one of these groups. The Holy Ghost is an empowerment gift for ones assignment in The Kingdom. Relationship and NOT strictly doctrine (out of context and one's exp only). There zeal may be sometime out of control and (if they do not study to show themselves approved a workman needed to be ashamed ) this zeal can be mis-directed. When they refer to backslide it a way they express your lukewarm. (Lest God spew you out of His mouth). My late beloved Bishop did discuss history and was not at all a dictator and he was subject to those put in place for purpose of accountability. I do not honor the clothesline as after digging into The Word myself, it was obvious this was a blind spot to address holiness. I always attended services b/c I was hungry for an increasing i depth of God. I now preach and even cover for leadership who take Vaca or sabbatical etc. When I rec'd the Genuine Holy Ghost, He came thru surrender to God! No faking, no repetitive actions "trying" to speak in tongues. Btw, tongues are the Initial evidence - the fruit of this will follow! The more I listen the more-opposite my exp. In this group. I left with blessing and a letter for where I was moving to. 😮 I pray sincerely that this young woman has found The Lord Jesus in relationship for herself. Seek God not a group of ppl. There are some truly sincere ppl seeking after Almighty God! Blsngs!!!

The difference between a cult & a religion is whether they stalk you, when you try to leave, like Scientology, does. Mormons, (Latter-Day Saints) are very family oriented & and encourage you to make friends, invite them to church, & invite your family to church, but you don't dump them, for being non-members.

So I agree with everything you just said except for the pants thing, for some reason you guys seem to think that the UPC is the only denomination that thanks a woman should only wear skirts and dresses, when actually women as a whole did not wear pants at all until less than a hundred years ago. And even then it was considered very rude I'm not very feminine. Pants were first designed for men so the first woman to put on a pair of pants was committing an abomination she was putting on a man's garment. That's why we don't wear pants and there are many many denominations even Muslims and people all around the world that believe women should not wear pants. And no we did not take it from anybody we all believe it
@viperolf
@viperolf Күн бұрын
The problem with this argument is that it focuses on 1 item of clothing, which causes confusion. Here's why: the T-shirt was initially a man's garment. So, it can be said that T-shirts pertain to men and therefore should not be allowed for women, but they are. Also, a lot of Pentecostal women wear leggings underneath their skirts. Wouldn't leggings be considered a form of pants? And if they are, then wearing a skirt over them still wouldn't make it right. It would be the same as a man wearing women's underwear underneath their clothes. It's still wrong. There's no problem with a woman who wears only dresses. The problem arises when it's taught that all women need to do the same, otherwise they're rebellious and not right with God. I have no problem with someone's personal convictions. But I believe that personal convictions should not be taught or forced on others and used as a tool to judge others, which happens all the time.

In my former UPCI church, the word "Gospel" was talked about nearly every service. The difference, though, was that they claimed that Acts 2:38 IS the Gospel. They don't teach that Gospel is something that JESUS has done, but rather that it's something that WE must do ourselves. Just another example of the UPCI redefining words to fit their narrative.

I find this not funny at all, do you think God is pleased in what your both saying? Do you not know that were all going to stand before the judgment seat of Christ. Let me ask you this, in mat 28:19 the commandment that Jesus gave to his disciples was it to be repeated or obeyed We know that they obeyed by being baptized in the name of Jesus christ. When people get the holy ghost they will speak in tongues as the Spirit gives them the utterance. 1 john 5: 20 Jesus is the true God and eternal life Col 1:15 Jesus is the image of the invisible God. Read deu 22:5 God is not divided up into 3 persons, nor does he switch from one mode to another, God is one. The humanity is not God, in john 1:1 some have suggested here that the word is in reference to and refers to Jesus, son and word are not interchangeable here, the bible never refers to an eternal son but only a begotten son. So this humanity and the one eternal spirit of God is describe as that of a father and a son. Heb 1:5 read. So with a strict monotheistic perspective there is only one God. Jesus is the only begotten son of God, so begotten means to father or cause to create, that which was not created before is now created. By very definition of the word concieved or begotten rejects the very notion of a preexsistence. So God in his love provides and creates a human being together with Mary, thereby not having Adam's sin nature, now we have God with us, God manifest in the flesh. So God made a real human being to dwell in, gal 4:4 ... made of a woman. If I were you , I would seek the truth and repent, and get right with God, from what I'm listening to, it sounds like your mocking God by laughing at his words, may God have mercy on you . When a person gets the holy ghost they will want to live holy and be a doer of the word. Unpractice truth is no better than false doctrine. And the gospel is the death, burial, and the resurrection The Jewish people are strict monotheistic, and those were God's chosen people

Former Pentecostal (not UPC or any of the “apostolic” churches) here - there was a difference between the “gift of tongues” and the initial sign of receiving the Holy Spirit. That is how they would handle the “everyone does not have the gift of_____” verses. The church I was part of was a descendent of the first wave but branched off quite early. Believed in perseverance of the saints which is really unusual for a Pentecostal faith.

I left in 1998. UPC is definately a cult. The book "The Challenge of the Cults and New religions" by Ron Rhodes was very helpful to me seeing the truth. There is a whole chapter dedicated to the UPC. He is very thorough. In the beginning chapters he really helps to define what a cult is and how to recognize them, and the characteristics they have. I highly recommend it for folks trying to sort things out. Cults are usually very toxic and controlling. They do not have the true gospel of grace as Paul taught in his letters. They possess a false gospel that mixes Jesus and the law, the very thing that infuriated Paul when he wrote the book of Galatians.

@victortrakys262

Jesus christ the son of God who died on the cross, he is the only begotten son of God. Jesus was not in the old testament, by very definition of the word concieved or begotten rejects the very notion of a preexsistence, the only way you preexisted was in the hope of your mother, and in the twinkle of your fathers eye, before conception there was no you and there was no me ,you and I had a start when the seed of a woman and the seed of the man came together at conception. You see we have no problem in the old testament with one God, but the new testament people get messed up and confused because we brought into our conversation human understanding, pagan practices, and polytheistic deities. 1tim 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. So just a very quick summary here, God is a spirit, through Adam and his disobedience sin entered into the world, so now there is a blood sacrifice requirement that is needed to redeem mankind, there is no sinless blood romans 3:10. So God in his love provides and creates a human being together with Mary, thereby not having Adam's sin nature, now we have God with us, God manifest in the flesh. Begotten or concieved means to father or cause to create, that which was not created before is now created, and thus made visible. The human being is not God, 1tim 2:5 is very clear that this human being is the man Christ Jesus. Heb 1:5 read , So this relationship between this humanity and the one eternal spirit of God is describe as that of a father and a son. Gal 4:4 ....he was made of a woman,made under the law. So with a strict monotheistic perspective there is only one God, single creator God. When reading new testament you need to ask yourself who is talking here, is it the spirit or is it the flesh, is it the father or is it the son,the human being. If it's divinity talking then that's in direct reference to Yahweh, if it's humanity talking then that's in direct reference to the man Christ Jesus. John 1:1 read some have suggested here that the word is in reference to and refers to Jesus, let me bring clarity here, Son and Word are not interchangeable here, the bible never refers to an eternal son but only a begotten son. The Word means logos- sum total of mind, reason, thought, and plan of God. John 1:14 the word was made flesh....., God inacted his mind, reason, thought, and plan, and disclose himself and his eternal word logos was expressed and made visible in human flesh in the man Jesus Christ. The word Son is only mentioned in reference to the incarnation 1peter 1:19,20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times. God had this all figured out, it was already a done deal from the very beginning, that's why Jesus can make those powerful I am statements. I am the door, I am the good shepherd, I am the way, the truth, and the life, I am the resurrection, I am the light of the world. Col 1:15 Jesus is the image of the invisible God. So who is saviour God, what is his name, throughout scripture Yahweh began revealing and disclosing his attributes, identities through his different name titles. Jehovah nissi- the lord our banner Jehovah jireh- the lord who provides Jehovah shalom- the lord our peace Jehovah El Shaddai- the lord Almighty Now there is an ultimate revelation Acts 4:12 name which is above every name, top of the pinnacle, the apex, when you say Jesus, your saying all the names, attributes, it's all summed up in that one name. Are you a person of the name , do you carry the name, because the name is a big deal, it's the identification revealer that you know who God is. Give God the glory, Amen

The one who died on the cross, is the same who suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane, praying to God, the Father, "If it be they will, remove this cup from me." The same who came up out of the water, when baptized, when a dove dicended, & a voice from Heaven said, "This is my Son, with whom I'm well pleased." God's real name is Elohim. The son's name is Jesus.

Some of these topics are a bit exaggerated in comparison to my experience.. but the deception is definitely present whether intended or not across the board. There are a lot of genuine loving people in this movement that have a walk with God and an understanding of His love. Sorry for your experience! We bought a house without permission and got married on our own timeline. Those issues were not micromanaged for me, but I definitely have felt empty and unworthy through the years and had my doubts. I was raised in this for 23 years. Right now my world has been shaken. Thank God for Covid. I'm currently relearning and unlearning what God's grace and the gospel means. But I strongly believe things are changing for me and a lot of the younger generations that are noticing a void and the weak arguments. It really falls apart for people in subsequent generations who didn't come from the world first hand. Keep praying!!

I totally disagree with you about church history. I attended a UPCI Bible College and we were taught Church History. We were taught other types of church history from Catholicism, Hindu, in order to witness. Secondly, God is not a person, he is a Spirit, Jesus was God manifested in the Flesh and The Holy Ghost is the spirit of Truth will teach you all truth. And NO!!!! I was raised upci and we went to Chili's, Applebee's, Outback which all had alcohol. I never heard of this!!! And the word says do not judge lest ye be judged. Are you girls doing just this? And before you judge me I no longer attend a UPCI church but I do not make fun or judge them which Again, your exactly doing!!! And as far as Trinity and Oneness. I've heard both arguments explained identical like the following: Take 1 egg; you have the shell, the egg white, and the yolk. 1 egg three manifestation of that egg. I have never been taught that all other churches are going to he'll. Where are you getting this garbage. You young ladies need to be sharing God's love, mercy and grace. His wife was not even cold in her grave yet. But I always recalled she was so sweet and meek. But she always had this terrifying look on her face and in her eyes she was going to get hit or caught talking to the wrong person. I still got to see my brother we kept him for their honeymoon. After a few weeks we called to get my brother to be told by this man who my adopted mom married it was a privilege to see my brother only if he allowed and it would be in my adopted moms home with him sitting in the whole visit. I got a hold of a friend who still went to church there to get a picture of my brother he did. I put it on Facebook not thinking anything but I missed him. My friend came back and said he could no longer have anything to do with me. Apparently the entire church was told the same thing. My adopted mom and her so called husband even sent to the point of hiding not brother in homes I would not find him. I was fighting mad I was getting my lawyers together and I was clearly going to blast them out of the court because my adopted mom never adopted my brother he was considered his own guardian. Then the Holy Spirit came to me he said drop your lawyers call this case off and start praying for them . The Holy Spirit showed me the hate building up in my life and I did not even realize it..He said you see the hate they have in their hearts you pray for them and the hate will be removed from you. So I obviously obeyed God. It took me a good six months to say the mans name my adopted mother married but after the six months are so I could say his name and the hate left me. They were not worth going to Hell over. I'M sure they thought I was scared etc too face them in court. But what actually happened God granted them grace to change as He was changing me. I have not see my brother in 12 years now I miss him like crazy but I will have Eternity with him. I'm afraid these two individuals are not headed to a very nice place . its sad to want to rip a brother and sister apart and pretend your so full of love. This church definitely is NOT OF GOD BUT SATAN HIMSELF

Keep sharing the true gospel of Christ crucified and Salvation of Grace through faith. Jesus is the only way, the truth and the life. Also, remember, exuberance doesn't equal the evidence of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is evident in the fruit displayed in a believer. ☺️✝️

In regards to the scripture that states that not all speak with tongues….they teach that there is a difference between the “gift” of tongues and the “initial sign” of receiving the Holy Spirit. For UPC churches the gift of tongues is something different than the experience of receiving the Holy Spirit.

Yes when a person recieves the holy ghost they will speak in tongues as the spirit gives the utterance. And the gift of tongues as stated in 1 cor 12:10 is totally different , it is a great gift from God, just like discerning of spirits....etc Paul had the tongues of men and angels 1cor 13:1.

You were cracking me up about the evolution of language and how some words don't mean what they meant long ago. It brought to mind that George Carlin said the same thing, and as children they'd laugh, as if a 'bad word' was in the Bible. (I don't listen to him anymore, but that's one of the more hilarious things he said, and my brother and I always giggled at it, too, when that specific word came up during the nightly Bible reading) 😁
