How can you study Torah all day and not know the illegality of physically assaulting people who are simply not from your neighborhood? This is very sad. I admire Hasidic Jews and their passion to live for God, however, I feel they either have a lack of understanding, or purposefully ignore other parts of God’s Word. What about a man who doesn’t work doesn’t eat and if you don’t provide for your family you are cursed? Why act all superior to others when you depend on the government to provide for you? How do you not teach your children the basics of life to survive in the world they live in? I think one would profit more from a prosperous, educated community then uneducated, and poor?

It appears similar to the struggles young people endure when they choose to leave Amish communities. In fact, I see a number of similarities between the Amish and the Hasidim - anachronistic clothing, rejection of all things modern, insulation from others (ie everyone NOT part of the segregated community) who may destabilize the larger, and rejection of those who choose to live in the wider world. Interesting, and a little frightening.

They aren't Amish-like one iota. The Amish are self sustaining Hassidim need the outside world and very much participate. Come to NY and see for yourself. I've never heard of an Amish councilman or and Amish landlord. One is Gospel the other is The Temple, one speaking of redemption and the other of a kingdom to come with constant preparation very much involving the outside world. Many other students in my community just buy into this, no questions asked, and simply accept the extreme interpretations. A man has a dream about a treasure buried underneath a bridge in a town across the country. When he wakes up, he thinks it was an interesting dream and goes about his business. The next night he has the same exact dream in vivid detail. And the following night. And the next, as well. For weeks, he dreams of the same buried treasure under the bridge in this town across the country and finally he can't take it anymore and embarks to find this treasure he's been dreaming about. When he gets to the town, he describes the bridge to the townsfolk and they point him in the right direction. Lo and behold, it's the exact bridge from his dream in every detail! At night, he sneaks down below the bridge with a shovel to collect the treasure that's destined for him. He digs and digs for hours, to no avail. Exhausted and desperate, he lets out a cry, alerting a nearby policeman. The startled policeman quickly makes his way to the bottom of the bridge and begins interrogating the stranger with the shovel. The man, embarrassed, eventually explains the reason for his travels and where he came from. The policeman is clearly startled and informs the man that he, too, had a dream every night for weeks about a treasure in a town across the country, buried under the living room floor of a certain house. The man can't believe his hears as the policeman describes in perfect detail his own living room. Immediately, the man rushes back home as quickly as he can, breaks up his floor and discovers the treasure of his dreams, which had been lying under his very own feet.

For which reasons Chaim and the other young men in the documentary received rejections from the Army? What about the civil service option that is available to those who are not physically fit? They even accept special needs people for cafeteria duty and autistic people for aerial photo analysis. I understand that it is difficult to make a big change, especially, without family support, having made 2 big moves myself --territorial and cultural: from atheist USSR to religious US at a very young age, and then from US to Israel.

A Man once said: "They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them." The true Lord and Father of life wants freedom and joy and a living personal relationship with each one of us. He is not afraid of our questions, our education and us enjoying ourselves. Keeping a bunch of exterior rules will not save anybody who hasn't got the love for God and his fellow man. We love because He loved us first. Keeping people ignorant or marrying them off and thus chaining them before they even have a sense of self is just wrong. True faith lives in the heart of man. Hypocrisy is not of God, neither is shunning and lies. Man can not save himself but the Lord has paid the ransom. The messiah has come and liberated man from dead actions. The life of atheism is indeed empty but our heavenly Father is not afraid of going through the process with us. No one can fall out of His Love.

I have been reading and studying this subject a lot lately. If I had to wager I’d bet most young ultra orthodox kids have these yearnings. What these ultra orthodox leaders require from young people and women too is very oppressive. The natural heart yearns to be free and experience things and grow. Slamming ones face in ANY spiritual text for that much time is unhealthy. Shame on these families who shun their own offspring for choosing another path.

@janesmith32876 жыл бұрын
I was thinking about the gender issues of it. It can be harder for girls to leave as once you have a small baby you are tied in and you are more physically vulnerable outside to being hurt by others so boys probably do find it easier to get out but on the other hand they sometimes have even less proper education than girls.
@MusicPlaylistsChannel5 жыл бұрын
Actually women have more freedom in the ultra-orthodox sects. There's much more rules and things you have and can't do, for hassidic men. Men are more robots than women, women just have their whole life planned for them (don't get to chose, but they don't really have to do things), whereas men have restrictions 24/24: praying and studying the Thora all the day, women don't have to do that and they don't do that. (those who do, do it less than a handful hours a day, all together 1 hour of paying and if you're in school studying, but when you read finished school, you barely study, just a old-fashioned mom and some work too).

Just lose your Jewishness. Keep loving your Eternal G-d. Keep his commandments and love Him above all things. Some men have made their extra rules, to make others miserable. But Hashem, blessed is He, already gave His commandments for us, all we need to do is keep them and love Him above all things. Seek Him always for everything you do. Maintain your prayers and seek His presence. I believe that you will be alright. He loves you and all those who seek Him with a sincere heart and love Him. B"H

Your a very courageous man. Go out and live the way you chose. You only get one chance at life. Just do it. Don't let anybody stop you.

It is a very big wrench, I am sure because you are leaving all your siblings too although I think he says his family have contact with him which will be more than most. The biggest problem is lack of education so hard to make a living on the outside.

O.k. you ran away .What did you find in replacement? ?

the chance to find his own answers, fail and succeed in his own terms, live his life in his own terms, take responsibility for his own decisions, realize his own wisdom, and not be a mindless sheep. That's what he will find in replacement.. That we all have the right and the wisdom to choose our own path.

this was a very good and insightful video into the lives of people who leave their religion to find their way out in the world. I was raised orthodox christian and at 19 left my home to be "free" of my parents and orthodox christian religion although i never stopped believing in God and Jesus. So i identify in that aspect to this 21 yr old guy. And guess what happened 10 years later? i came back to my church again after never have found true happiness outside of it.

I have respect for everyone's religion except if you are hurting someone. I think if your sect is missing the fulfillment of Judaism, then take that brave move and leave. I wasn't getting anything out of being Catholic and find much more of what I want in Reform Judaism. Everyone should have the right to chose how they want to worship, but it is a very hard thing to do with pressure from family and friends. The Ultra-Orthodox have a disadvantage because of their lack of secular education. I plan to retire in Israel if possible. I hope for him, he can come to the US and I am just lucky I was born here.

Btw when he said he hates people with an American citizenship he probably meant to say he's jealous. Not 'hate'.
