I moved to Cabo San Lucas in 2022 from Tempe, Arizona and it was one of the best decisions of my life. I absolutely loved Phoenix I spent most of my life there but Cabo is truly a special place. It's like San Diego in the 1980s. They have some of the most amazing beaches in the world. I love the culture, people, food, the ocean, the mountains but it definitely lacks infrastructure and this is something you're going to have to adjust to. We have power outages frequently, lack of water, and half the roads in town are dirt. It's the most expensive city in all of Mexico even under all these conditions but I do truly love it because the average daily temperature is 82° and it has 350 days of sun.

I retired about 9 years ago and began traveling to Mexico in the winters and after several years I started to think this would be a great place to live! So about 4 years ago I started exploring all the top retiree cities around Mexico in areas that had the nice year round weather as a home, which limited it to places in the central mountains, cities like SMA, Queretaro, Guanajuato, Morellia, Chapala/Ajijic, and many more. There are so many great places so make a checklist of what most important to you, watch the videos on this site and then go explore and find your dream place!

I am considering Mexico for a number of reasons but primarily because of its closeness to LA California. My goal is it spend 2-3 weeks per month in Mexico. I was hoping to become a monthly visiting tourist. My main reason for this monthly return to LA is because I have an 8 year old granddaughter that I can't bare spending to long away from and I have a unique way of teaching that her father wants her to learn from, as he did. I have no qualifications issues that I am aware of. I want to visit many places in Mexico and use Mexico as a staging area to many other nearby countries. Based on what you are saying I may need to apply for a temporary residency rather than going going the tourist route. My time frame will began in about April of 2025.

I received permanent residency in 2022 and it only took a couple hours. I made my appointment online in advance but the overall appointment went very smoothly. Make sure you bring in all your bank statements and liquid assets for the past 24 months. I purchased a property in Cabo San Lucas 2 months before my appointment so I had a vested interest in Mexico already because I purchased a $750,000 home here. They knew I was not going anywhere and was a good candidate.

Just do it and make an effort to learn they are very kind to me where we live about my broken Spanish. There is English speaking communities in every large city so you can make friends who speak the same language.

I just wanted to hop in here for anybody who is considering this to say that the Mexico Relocation Guide is the best investment I've ever made. My wife and I were planning to retire to Atlixco BEFORE this election crap. We already have our temporary residency and will be doing our 3-year renewal in December. Our move timeline may have just moved forward. Without Mariana and MRG, this would have been *very difficult* to do. Using the guide, this was a smooth process and I'm proud to say that we're official residents of Mexico (not to mention that it's a bit easier to get through the airport in Mexico City when we fly in - that's not a joke haha) Oh - and do the relocation tour. And hire a guide. Worth their weight in gold!

Hi. My wife and I live the United States. We are in our late 30's and purchased a home in Mexico last year. For now it is a vacation home. In the future it will serve as a retirement home. We will likely spend half of the year in Mexico and half in the USA. I can attest to the fact that Mexico is a welcome reprieve from the political climate in my home country. I am among the politically exhaused crowd looking for an escape as often as possible. When in Mexico we walk miles and miles each day. To the market, the park, downtown etc. Our home is visited by butterflies and hummingbirds. We have planted flowering vines to grow up the wall of our home outside. I LOVE IT! Is it perfect? No. Do I miss some of the comforts of my home in the USA while there? Yes. I am not fluet in spanish and that proves challenging to navigate the world. I rely on my wifes assistance quite a lot and that can be tiresome for her. I continue to study and practice but wonder IF I will ever be fluent. Immerson is critical. Anyhow, thanks for the video. Buen dia.

@@josielogan3325 The rumor that the Mexican government can "repossess" or "steal" homes from foreign property owners is a common concern, but it is largely based on misunderstandings or exaggerations of Mexican property laws, particularly those related to the restricted zones. Restricted Zones and Trusts: Foreigners cannot directly own land within 50 kilometers (31 miles) of the coast or 100 kilometers (62 miles) of the border. However, since 1973, foreigners can purchase property in these restricted zones by establishing a bank trust (known as a fideicomiso). In this arrangement, a Mexican bank holds the title to the property on behalf of the foreign owner, who retains all rights to use, sell, or pass the property to heirs. Rights and Protections: Properties purchased legally in Mexico through the appropriate channels are protected by Mexican law, and the property rights of both Mexican nationals and foreigners are safeguarded by the Constitution. The government does not have any particular practice of taking back property or repossessing homes without due legal process. Expropriation Possibilities: As in any country, there is a legal process called expropriation where the government can acquire private property for public use, similar to eminent domain in the United States. If this happens, the government is required by law to compensate the property owner fairly. Expropriation is very rare and is used for public works projects, not random property seizure. If you’re considering purchasing property in Mexico, it’s wise to work with a reputable lawyer to understand all local laws and ensure your investment is secure.
