Probably the only place in south Germany where you'll see thatched roofs is a very old Black Forest peasant house. And I think most of those are in open air museums.

Welcome (back) to Germany you two. I really liked this video and look forward to watching the other ones. I have watched a few videos of Americans moving to Germany and noticed thst virtually all of them moved far down south. So I was quite intrigued when I realized you're moving to Northwest Germany where I grew up. At the end of the video I was like: Hold on for a second. That town and lake looks exactly like my hometown (Bad Zwischenahn) 😀

Welcome to Germany! I spent a few weeks in Texas years ago, and I remember how hard the jet lag hit me when I travelled home. The roofs you saw were in deed grass, at least a special kind of. It is called Reet and grows in the marshes. It is so special that you will not even find a Wikipedia entry :) As soon as these roofs show up, I know I am at home :) Hopefully we see a lot more Clips of your adventures, and not only the typically US tourist destinations (Bavaria, Beer, Schloss Neuschwanstein). Welcome again, have a nice time.

Rosinenstuten (Raisin-Bread) looks like Bread but it contains much sugar and i would see it more like an cheap alternative to cake or cookies. I also would eat it with a cup of coffee. If you want real Bread, you should avoid the factory-made Bread inside the Store and use the Bakery at the Entrance of the Store. Its not as cheap, but its fresh and tastes better.

In welchem Paralleluniversum? German beer is boring and that's due to the "Rheinheitsgebot" (which doesn't guarantee it's purity at all, btw). There is so much better beer out there!

Germany is not what it was 20 years ago...sorry, folks. the autobahns were super awesome and now they're staubahns!! way over populated and restrictions for pretty much anything you can think of, exist. high taxes across the board, more crime, and even murder. don't get me wrong, it's a nice country, but it has changed drastically over the last 2 decades.
