The real longevity award goes to Kareem. LeBalco doesn't play competitively even in his prime. He recruits other all stars to make things easier, load manages, gave up on defense and even sits out games against legit contenders to last this long. At least Kareem used skill to be relevant and was an all star in his last season. LeBalco is a detriment to the Lakers when he's playing. Sure, he drops 30 or 40. But, he gives away more points. Especially when you properly weigh DEFENSE which was consistently ELITE. Defense is 50% of the game. Kobe is the most skilled player ever and top 2 all time. It's MJ then Kobe. My top 10: 1. MJ 1b. Lebron James (so really 11th) Kobe has become criminally underrated because defense has not been properly weighted and there isn't an all encompassing metric that captures all the tenets of defensive prowess (the difference between perimeter defense vs post defense, the difference between on-call defense vs off-ball defense). NBA COACHES who crunch tape for a living voted for the ALL NBA Defense awards. If theres any award in the league that was the most meritocratic, it's ALL NBA Defense. A public PED scandal especially one that involves LeBron James would have a substantial monetary impact on ESPN, TNT, the NBA Network, the league, owners, and players is one of the reasons any PED rumors and stories (and there have been many) that come out get swept under the rug. Fan interest has been on the decline for more than two decades and the league can't afford another drop in fan interest. On the other hand, if the league deals with the PED problem head-on and is transparent about it, it may actually earn them respect from fans.
