I just started with learning arabic and in order to speak with as many arabs as possible I'm learning the levantine dialect for speaking and I'm planning to learn MSA for understanding purposes only. Do you think this is an effective strategy, and do you have any tips? (I chose levantine over egyptian because it sounds beautiful and I have good syrian friends who want to help me out.)
@spokenlevantinelebanesearabic

Definitely. This is a well rounded approach to learning Arabic, as most written material is in MSA and speaking wise you can't manage without colloquial. Best of luck 🤩🏆

I finally decided to learn the dialect of my family, after a lot of time dabbling with MSA. I like the Levantine dialects but that "bt-" sound in words like "bteshteghle" kills me haha. I have a question, I've noticed that the letter ع is pronounced way softer in Lebanese dialect than in others like Gulf Arabic or Moroccan Darija. Is my guess correct or am I having trouble listening? Great video!
@spokenlevantinelebanesearabic
@spokenlevantinelebanesearabic Жыл бұрын
Well done for taking the decision to start learning! I think because generally speaking Lebanese is considered the "softest: dialect, you might percieve that. With lots of listenint you will get used to the sounds of the langauage. All the best and thank you for watching.

I'm the same who asked on Instagram. I'm very confused. In the question"where do you live?" you use the verb in the participle. I've seen it somewhere else with the phrase "mish fahem", etc. But when it comes to asking "what you work?" Is that the conjugate form? "bteshteghil"? ,"b7eb is conjugated too.
@spokenlevantinelebanesearabic
@spokenlevantinelebanesearabic 4 жыл бұрын
It can be a bit confusing for beginners since we have a preference for which verbs we use the active participle to express. I am planning a detailed lesson just for this purpose in the future. So far I have 2 brief posts on Instagram about this. I am not sure I have seen your comment. Maybe I missed it or forgot? Please tag me again with any questions instagram.com/p/CAXFwrng0b0/?igshid=c5xp5ir883sd instagram.com/p/CAfXU8ag9m5/?igshid=7rapqxhridlw We use the active participle to express verbs with a progressive meaning or an action that is still relevant to the presenet. Wen seken? Seken bi Beirut. "I have been living in Beirut up to now" of you want to compare it with English. Sarle zamen seken bi Beirut. صرلي زمان ساكن ببيروت. I have been livnig in Beirut for a long time. We would manily use seken and not beskon. "Shu bteshteghel" is in the simple presenet tense conjugated for "you". It is a daily or routune action. The simple present is used for routines and daily habits, permanent or repeated actions or personal preferences: bhebb essport بحب السبور I like sport. Beshrab halin essobo7 بشرب حليب الصبحI drink milk in the morning. As for مش فهمان I don't understand or I have not understood. We use the active participle for actions related to thoughts and feelings or senory like سامع الموسيقى برا؟ seme' el-mosi'a barra? Can you hear the music outisde? Also for future sometimes: وين رايح اليوم؟ wen rayeu el yom? Where are you going today or going to go? ما فهمت I didnt understand. مش عم بفهم Literally I am not understanding.

Hi. Lebanon is my home country. It's the most beautiful Middle Eastern country in my eyes. People are friendly and welcoming of tourists. Levantine language umberella uncludes: Lebanese, Syrian, Paletenian and Jordanian Arabic dialects. Maghreb that would refer to countries in North west Africa like Morocco and Tunisia. They have different dialects. Here's a short video about Lebanon, by a travel blogger: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqHChJiHmap5fJo

And yes a lot of Lebanese speak French (not all), as we were a French mandate after the Ottoman era and until our independence. Most speak English, especially the younger generation and those who work in the hospitality industry.

Hi and thank you for watching first. Well done for being able to read without diacritics🏆. Usually they are there for beginners and for us natives as children. As we gain confidence in reading we can read without them. Since the videos are for the widest range of people and especially beginners, I prefer to use diacritics to make them more accessible.

3Umre tes3a w-khamseen sine. (My age is nine and fivety years literal translation. We start with the ones first and then the tens. We use "w" meaning "and". Sine = year. After 10 counted noun becomes singular, so sine and not sneen/years.) Same for both male and female. Lebanese course for beginners is being uploaded on the channel, members only: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6HCpGCLrseJoa8

Why is bhib el'reyé read like that? Shouldn't it be lile
@spokenlevantinelebanesearabic
@spokenlevantinelebanesearabic Ай бұрын
Hi. Lile= ليلي؟ doesn't make sense. It's قراية from قراءة qiraa'ah in standard Arabic. The ق is pronounced as a glottal stop ء and ءة ending is pronounced as ية yé. Hope it makes sense. ' for ء
