Rodney Rogers was part of the select team. Some time after the first game, Rodney told Larry Bird and a bunch of the Dream Team that Larry hadnt made a jump shot since 1984. It was 1992 at that time. When they played the second game, Magic who heard Rogers comment passed the ball to Bird eight straight times. Bird called his shot on Rogers and hit them each time before laying down. Check out the video of Mashburn comment on Bird.

The Celtics were pulled off the court early by security in Detroit in 88 because the crowd was about to storm the court (Pistons' home court). They stopped by their locker room to shake hands with the Pistons. Pistons walking off in 1991 at their home court was seen as a sign of bad sportmanship, hence not good for the Olympic Games; it was too fresh in people's memory. Regarding his record and skill Isaiah deserved a place on the Dream Team, but he messed it up for himself - instigator of a dirty play style, yes, against every team, but especially against Bulls and MJ and talking behind Magic's back while he was supposed to be his best friend. Sad thing is that years prior to that during the All Star games when on the court together, MJ and Isaiah had quite a good chemistry as players.

Isaiah would have made the team worse. Several of these players (at least) would not have wanted to play with him and might have turned down the invitation to be on the team if he were on it. And even if they were all there, they have to play together as a TEAM. I think Isaiah would have killed the chemistry they had. He was plenty talented to be on this team, but he was not the right fit.

They already had two GOAT point guards in Magic and Stockton. I don't see how Isaiah (as great as he was) would have helped. As you say, he could have only hurt the team chemistry. I feel a bit badly for Christian Laetner. Through no fault of his own, he became little more than the team mascot. I'll bet he's glad he had that experience, though. The man we all wanted to see on the Dream Team instead was Dominique Wilkins, but he was nursing a serious injury at the time.

@@ContrarianCorner I've seen people mention that Shaq could have been "the college guy" and contributed more than Laetner. That's an interesting possibility. Not like they were lacking at center either though.
@ContrarianCorner
@ContrarianCorner Жыл бұрын
@@mikegoodwin2386 Yeah, Shaq is the usual go-to for the "Who should have been the college guy" question. My point was that having _any_ college player on that team was rather ridiculous and really only served to put that guy in an unfair and potentially humiliating situation. I mean, look at the way the pros spoke about him when it came to picking teams for practice. It's like he was the kid on the playground that nobody wanted on their team.

That loss to the college team was probably the best thing that could have happened because we know they went on to dominate the Olympic tournament. I feel you learn more from defeat that you can ever learn from always winning.

Playing golf can be rough especially of you are walking. The average course is probably like 7 thousand yards so you are walking like 7 miles and not in a straight line on flat ground

Re Golf. I play and Yes, it would be tiring for a 7 footer like David to play a round on a big course in the summer over there. On your feet a lot for 3 or 4 hours and mentally concentrate on 4-6 shots per hole times 18 and then play a basketball game that night. So it is impressive for jordan but he plays a lot and had the energy to do everything.

In 1992, im not sure Isiah was better than Drexler, Stockton or Mullin. I think even Tim Hardaway had a better case than Isiah. Bird and Magic were retired. So it was a legacy thing for them. Hakeem was the best player not on that team but he wanted to play for Nigeria

Isiah Thomas was still a 6itch back then. His personality would've started eroding team cohesion from day one. It wasn't until after he retired that he started out on his own personal redemption tour. One nasty personality can mess up the whole work environment. He couldn't keep a professional attitude back then, so he didn't deserve to be on the team.

Yes I agree with no Thomas, why you had Magic and Stockton as point guards. Plus Jordan could play point and so could Clyde Drexler. 2 centers ( plus Latener) you got Malone and Barkley. 2 guards Jordan, Mullins, Drexler. Then 3's Pippin, Bird it was awesome. I quit watching the NBA in the early 2000 when it changed. Loved the late 70's, 80's and 90's.
