It's all about finite element analysis. If using materials are linear (only elastic properties) -- it's linear finite element analysis. If materials are non-linear (for example bilinear strain-stress curve with hardening) -- it's non-linear finite element analysis. This difference is so important because non-linear problems don't have analytical solutions, only numerical.

Finite element analysis is a paradigm of numerical method to solve partial differential equations. These partial differential equations could ones that describe the behaviours of solids or fluids with different properties and under different variables in consideration (Temperature, displacement, velocity). Now the these behaviour of solids or fluid could be defined using linear principles or non-linear principles. Where the non-linear principles are more complex and more in line with the actual behaviours. The linear principles are a simplification of the non-linear principles for numerical simplicitic reasons. Non-linearity in terms of solid mechanics FEM can include material non-linearity and material non-linearity.

FEM analysis is a method for splitting up an object into a finite number of elements. Linear Analysis is a type of FEM analysis that studies the elastic behaviour of these elements. (so only temporary elastic deformations, like elongation of a spring) Nonlinear analysis, however, is a type of FEM analysis that studies elasticity as well as plasticity. (so also permanent deformations like bending a paperclip)
