For x intercept u need a point on the x-axis .. Hence the y-coordinate will be zero . So put y=0 in the equation y=1/2x - 3/2 0=1/2x-3/2 x=3

IDK if you will need this after 7 months but still, Just multiply the R.H.S, then you will get y=-(bx/a)+b then take b common, y=b[-x/a + 1] Cross multiply, y/b =-x/a +1 Then just , x/a +y/b=1 Just write it down on your notebook you will understand better
