Hello mam.i have a doubt in 2nd example that when u decomposed it into R1 and R2 then y u again decomposed into R3. But in ur previous example u decomposed into only R1 and R2

@60_v364 жыл бұрын
can u explain why do we need to decompose into 3 relations instead of 2?
@bajrangijha4 жыл бұрын
We can solve by decomposing it into two relations also but eventually the answer will be same becuase after decomposing it into two relations one of the relation is still not in 2nf. So we have to decompose that relation again and as a result we ll get 3 relations at the end.
@60_v364 жыл бұрын
@@bajrangijha is the 2nd relation R2(A,C,D) not in 2nf bcoz there is no candidate key? or any other reason?
@bajrangijha4 жыл бұрын
There is a candidate key AC in the relation R(A,C,D) and this relation is not in 2nf because the proper subset of tha candidate key AC which is C is deriving a non-prime attribute D. Clearly, this is a case of partial dependency. So the relation is not in 2nf and we should split it more.

I have a question madam, In subrelation R2(A,D) there is no dependency and no super key eventually. Is it even possible for a relation that it doesn't has a super key or functional dependency??
@hardikmaind98332 жыл бұрын
it has a ck which is AD itself . and also it has functional dependecies which are trivial. if you try to calculate the ck of the relation u will get AD as ck. since AD is ck it is also a superkey. And maam has told that if a relation has all prime attribute then it is already in 3NF and so by this fact we can aslo prove that R2 is in BCNF

@SaiprasadMurakonda-e9n6 ай бұрын
The issue comes in BCNF if you have some non trivial functional dependencies and determinant is not a super key. But here as there are no functional dependencies at all(Except Trivial), there are no dependencies violating BCNF rule. So we say it is directly in BCNF.

in the last question, R3(A,C) results in empty set, the hypothetical R(A,D), R(B,C), R(B,D) also results in empty set. R(AD), R(BC) would be lossless since they contain A, C which are superkey for R1 & R2, respectively; while R(BD) would be lossy since it does not contain A or C. Is that correct? Any explanation/correction would be appreciated!
