Lec 96: Theories of Power

In this lecture, we will study about the different theories and perspectives of power.
1. Max Weber's concept of Power and Authority. We will also talk about class, status and party.
2. Functionalist theory of Power as conceptualised by Talcott Parsons.
3. Marxist theories of Power.
4. Antonio Grahmsci on Power and Hegemony and his concept of state consisting of Political society and civil society.
5. Ralph Miliband on Power and Mass Media and Advertisements.
6. Louis Althusser concept of Ideological State apparatus and Repressive state apparatus.
7. Nicolas Poulantzas view on Power of State and it's relationship with the Ruling class Bourgeoise.
8. Westergaard and Resler on Power and it's consequences.
9. Post Modernists view on Power.
10. Michel Foucault on Power and Knowledge and his concept of discourses.
