As a power plant operator for 20+ years I have racked out thousands of breakers. 2 things, first where is your arc flash hood? Arc flash clothing is great but your face would be roasted. Secondly, where are you remote racking devices? 60 year old coal plants have remote devices. When you read the arc flash rating on switch gear there is a boundary to set-up. With remote racking device you can remain outside of boundary. Another great addition are arc sentry or maintenance mode on switchgear. Changes relay settings for when racking breakers for your safety.
@chrisharrell5945 Жыл бұрын
Exactly...there some things in life you just don't do and playing around switchgear and motor control centers without proper PPE is one of them. Remote actuator even better.
@crestfallenwarrior69969 ай бұрын
Arc flash mode drops for load side. Still potential for line side arc flash energy. However , it would lower PPE requirements , in full agreement with this comment

Not all substations have a auxiliary panel where we can open and close. Sometimes you just gotta hit it with your least dominate hand and turn your face away, or use a “chicken switch” which is a long bendy pole to hit the pistol grip from far away

I am retired from working at the Los Angeles DWP Scattergood Generating Station. I have racked out and racked in 4160v circuit breakers and 480v circuit breakers. There was a set of safety procedures to rack in and rack out these circuit breakers that had to always be followed. The circuit breakers at Scattergood Generating Station were older than the circuit breakers in this video.

May I suggest that if you want to refine this video, please include "turn the Local/Remote switch to Local" before you start the isolation process and only turn the "Local/Remote switch to Remote" when the Circuit Breaker is in Service position. The purpose being to be in full control of your switching operations. If you have competent persons working at the Marshalling box, there is a possibility that they may short two points to close the Circuit Breaker accidentally remotely from where you are operating the circuit breaker, don't you agree? Part of reason for Lockout and Tagout is to ensure there is no chance of erroneous switching during switching operations. My thoughts as an Authorised Person for voltages up to and including 22kV switching in Singapore. Anyway thanks for your sharing of circuit breaker operations. Have a great day.

What is really the grounding in a vessel the body of the vessel itself or anything else like any elctrode or cathode which is touching the sea water ??
@chrisharrell5945 Жыл бұрын
I guess it would depend on the coatings applied to the vessels...I know most saltwater sea fare worthies get ablative paints to their hulls, which shedding of electrons is how they peel off old dead cells to expose better layers of protection in the paint layers. Depending upon the voltage class we're considering in this conversation and some other factors, I would venture to say that the paint layers constitute some form of insulation. That said, I'm certain no vessel is sealed completely along every single facet of it's structure and ports, etc;. I don't know all the intricacies of those ships though...not certain the practice out there on the water but I would think, just like on land, bonding all of the metal structure to bring to water potential would be the ultimate and to achieve that a 'designated grounding electrode', perhaps something altogether separate from the hull would be the order of the day.
@Techtronica993 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video! Looks like the inspection on your gloves is expired. They need the be inspected annually or after each use if not using the leather insert. You can get little pinholes in the rubber. Your company needs to do this for you, and in the US is a big fine if they don’t.

Sf6 not used in ship it liberate hazard gas in closed space mixed with air
@pgobservers2 жыл бұрын
SF6 gas itself is not toxic at all yet until it burns and that is super toxic. So whenever there is a S/G explosion, do not enter the switch room unless you are putting on proper respirators. It’s Hazmat zone. Toxicity. FAULTED SF6 GAS - Faulted SF6 gas smells like rotten eggs and can cause nausea and minor irritation of the eyes and upper respiratory tract. Normally, faulted SF6 gas is so foul smelling no one can stand exposure long enough at a concentration high enough to cause permanent damage. It is a potent greenhouse gas with a high global warming potential, and its concentration in the earth atmosphere is rapidly increasing. During its working cycle, SF6 decomposes under electrical stress, forming toxic byproducts that are a health threat for working personnel in the event of exposure.
