Thanks brilliant video 👍 Personal experience of using VFD in our workshop (240 v 1 phase to 380v 3 phase VFD) Most nights 2300-0300 is perfect faultlessly performance but anytime between 1100-1345 is totally useless 🤔 = Incoming 240v 10kva line transformer falls away @ 1100-1345 to much demand on area network 😬🤔🤦

Good video. We always try to tell our apprentices at the shipyard what you have said about isolating each part of the system separately. As you say, it helps you track down the individual problem, and also makes sure that when you use the megger on things, you only will be using it on the parts of the circuit that can handle the high voltages that the megger will put out. If you do not take off any sensing wires or similar things first, then you could be sending 500- 1000 volts from the megger to sensitive electronics, which cannot handle those voltages, creating a far bigger problem than you started out with……
@michaelw4258 Жыл бұрын
Yes, you are right. But 500V DC is not so much for a 400 V(?) AC powered inverter. Around 560V DC is a normal operational voltage. This VFD has gone anyway.
@johncantrell614 Жыл бұрын
@@michaelw4258 yes, in that case, you are correct. But in other cases, there are often sensing devices on generators and things that can be burned out by the high voltages that the mergers put out. Those items are what I was mentioning, and was why it is important to isolate these things so they are not burned out by mistake. 🙂
@HILBERTOFUNES7 Жыл бұрын
Always, and this fundamental,we isolate sensitive electronic circuits such as AVR etc when we use megger test in case of supplying 500vdc( the generated voltage from megger test)to the electronic circuit with danger of damaging it irreversably.
@AL6S00740 Жыл бұрын
So an other idea would be to go and torque check all the VFDs and Motors , because IF one failed the rest are also in line to fail in similar ways. SO I would suggest take one by one out of commission and re-tighten all the bolts and connections and check for lose connections.

From my point of view, no reason to disconnect “Delta” connection in the terminal. The measurements with plates or without will be the same. Also I don’t understand why you are going to replace power cable? Is there short circuit?
@inothome Жыл бұрын
He broke the delta so he could check individual winding resistances. He mentioned he checked them but didn't show it.
@maksst2885 Жыл бұрын
@@inothome without broken delta connection you can check individual windings! No point to do it, check what does it means delta connection. Even with star you can check without broken connection. If reading between three phase will be different, after that you should brake connection
@leckyjake Жыл бұрын
there are cases where you have equal continuity but all you are measuring is a shorted Lines. The proper IR test is to separate each windings and measure in between. that is only 5 mins additional time to your job.

There is usually a minimum insulation resistance value given by the manufacturer. But with no specs a rule of thumb is 1 Meg Ohm per 1,000V plus 1 Meg Ohm. So on a 400V motor like this there should be at minimum 1 to 2 Meg Ohm and he was measuring over 550Meg Ohm. But if he was measuring in the kilo-Ohm range then something would be suspect, it doesn't have to be 0 or very low to fail. With insulation resistance the higher the better.
