I am so glad I happened upon your channel in this video! I could not for the life of me figure out how to get the squeaking to stop on my Lectric 3.0. Honestly, it made riding not that much fun… But thanks to your suggestion and this great video, problem has been solved! Thank you!

Ordered the No Squeal and it is a really good product. Of course it is for pads that are only slightly glazed : Removing and scuffing the old pads or replacing them when worn down or just in bad shape is the only real solution then. All your posts are clearly spoken and well produced..Thanks !

I just bought a Lectric Xpedition. I tried the advice offered on Lectric's webpage of cleaning the rotors with alcohol, but that didn't help. Then I tried every kind of brake pad, I.E. Metal, semi-metal, ceramic, and organ resin. They didn't make a difference. So I shined some light through the calipers and saw a lot of empty space on the side of the rotors facing the axle. When I squeezed the brakes, only the caliper on the axle side of the brake assembly moved. So I loosened the two bolts on top that are positioned vertically (on the Xpedition) which allow you to reposition the calipers along the same axis as the axle. I positioned the calipers as far away from the hub as they would go and locked them down. There was still no daylight to be seen between the outer caliper and the rotor, but the gap between the inner caliper and the rotor was much less. After doing this, the brakes went from very loud and annoying to completely silent. Also, I can detect no rubbing when the brakes are not engaged so it seems to have worked perfectly.

Wendy, I understand your comment all too well. As a very visual person too, I need to activate as many senses as possible - especially visual. Off-topic, the same with names. I need to hear, write the name and say it aloud before it sticks. Regardless of the comment recieved, "As a woman???" , I get it. Good luck on all future bike repairs.

Tip for surfacing the rotors…loosen calipers, wedge the 100-120 grit sandpaper, tighten calipers a bit, spin wheel and apply the brake. If you really want to get into it, have a clean cloth on the disc as it spins inwards to keep it clean from grit

I love your videos, you've already talked me into buying a new derailleur, freewheel, and maybe a few more things lol. One thing though, while isopropyl alcohol is just fine to handle and spill on your skin, it is incredibly toxic if ingested. That's really only an issue if someone tries to drink it in place of liquor, but its worth noting.

to resurface the rotor I believe steelwool would be a much better option than "sand papper"...
@caseypries7559 Жыл бұрын
I would recommend using brake clean rather than alcohol. Another thing you can try is spraying the back of the pads with disc brake quiet and maybe that will help. If you're going to hand sand the rotor I'd recommend a sanding block to keep it more true than your fingers will.

How about adjusting the Brakes is it the same as Bicycle Brakes?...
@jwit762 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris, after using the sandpaper trick on the rotors, would you then recommend cleaning the rotors with rubbing alcohol, etc or would that be counter productive? As a side note, let me know what you think of the shimano BRM375 disc breaks as a potential upgrade to the XP 2.0. Thanks again for all the effort you put forth in your content.
@PedalWithPower2 жыл бұрын
Yes it's good to wipe off the rotors after sanding them. 👍 I wouldn't consider the br-m375 shimano brakes an ugrade. They are about the same. I will be trying out the Juin Tech, cable pull hydraulic brakes next week and see if those are worth it though. I'll post videos on how they do!

@wcc19452 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris - What brand and type of (material) pads do you use or recommend for the XP 2.0 - I added a 180 mm sram rotor on the front of mine and it definately stops better but squeals - after sanding rotor, cleaning, adjusting many times. Usually it is OK for about 5 hard stops then the squeal comes back, I have been cleaning rotor with alcohol after every ride and it is clean. Back brake is stock and does not squeal. Think maybe a different brand or type of pad may help and maybe a shimano rotor ?? The brand of pad I have on now is called POZDOZ and package says they are ceramic. I have taken them off and sanded the surface and cleaned pads a few times too. They stop fine just noisey. Thanks and "ride on"
@PedalWithPower2 жыл бұрын
Hi Will, Good call on the bigger rotor, that will definitely give more stopping power. Some pad and rotor combinations can make noise. You can try using these Tektro organic compound - amzn.to/3tftY7v (this will come with 2 pairs) Organic pads tend to be quieter, just don't last quite as long, but you'll have an extra pair! Ride On Will 👍

Mine were making an assortment of noises, from growling to eep, eep, eep, when rolling it into the garage. After a simple alignment, almost all the noise went away. All that is left is from the pad material itself, which can be dealt with later when I change them out.
