Didnt talk about smart carbs egg shaped venturi. Didnt mention smart carb is a true single circuit carb. Didnt mention the reason to vent lines, as it draws its air in through the air box instead of drawing unfiltered air like most carbs. Theres more, but just a few quick points to make for those watching. Great video. I ran the lectron, smart carb, and STIC back to back on my Gas Gas XC300 to find out the same thing. My Lectron has been great . Slavens Racing Mule HV says do not touch any adjustments and call if you think you need to. One time the bike sat in the enclosed trailer for a week during hot hot weather. The bike did get access fuel in the crankcase . I blame the heat 100* type stuff causing the tank to pressurize enough to force fuel through the carb . Yes the tank is vented but that's all I can think of. I rarely turn the fuel off. It doesn't leak fuel in transit. Other than that one time it has been flawless.

Can you put a lectron carb on a 2018 110?
@duracurvature Жыл бұрын
I have 2 Lectron Carbs. 1 in a highly modified KX500 and 1 on a Yamaha blaster. On my KX it changed the game. I could get it to idle, with 1 metering rod adjustment, the bike runs beautifully. The bike even sounds different. It’s like it’s always in it’s sweet spot. I’d say power is the same but the bike is so much more user friendly. I will say however it did fill my engine with fuel one night when I forgot to turn the petcock off and had fuel dripping out of the power valve shaft on the floor. I have heard from multiple sources that the lectron will do this if you don’t turn off you petcock every time you stop it. It’s just a risk each time you shut the bike down. And with a big 500 kick start, you do not want to flood a bike out remotely in an area where you can’t push start it. That piece I don’t like. The blaster has run good right out of the box with the carb, don’t have a lot of rides on it, but it has been good. Sounds like there is a similar issue with the smart carb with the needle seat leaking and overfilling the carb/bike by. This I don’t understand because with 35 years of dirt bike riding I’ve never had a Mikuni or Keihinn do that. I’m sure they do but I just haven’t had it happen. But I have had it happen with a $500 Lectron, in my mind that should not happen.

Just jet the stock keihin to perfection. It works great for wide ranges of altitude and my 300 got better mileage with jetted stock carb over a friend's lectron. JD kit is easy and works.
@sciencemilitia18534 жыл бұрын
It got better mileage because it has a lean spot when you are at low rpm and high throttle input. A big reason that the Lectron is better is because it doesnt have that lean spot. It yields more precise and prompt throttle response, which shines in technical terrain.
@ibrap77154 жыл бұрын
I have both. Lectron works great. Needs to be tuned after large changes in temperature through the seasons. (Summer, Winter). Smart carb worked great and needed to be tuned after large changes in temperature aswell. However the smart carb apparently had "needle seat o ring failure" and dumped gallons of in the carburetor, cylinger, airbox, and even the header pipe. Around 2 gallons to be precise. This was not "slow" as stated but happened very quickly. Enough to completely flood the motor within a couple minutes. That is a very dangerous design flaw. So I will be rebuilding mine and getting another Lectron.

3 years later 2023....Lectron Billitron is out w $7 stock cable adapter, choke on left side and drastic improvements to power curve on lower half of the scale vs older Lectrons....and then only since May '23 the 'Pro' billotron w low throttle angle torque jet is out for even more low end on top of that(no fuel mpg increases anymore on that one) ....really no upside to SC except the external top knob metering rod adjustment instead ofnpulling the lectron apart. And now the bottom end is there w Pro version to wax any old school jet carb. Lectrons website has a phone number on it and they answer every time. They have been known for TOP NOTCH cust service w proactive follow up tech calls and email responses. I got a billitron pro for my cr250 and eventually will probably get a SC for my daughters KLX140 since they make one specific for it or the BBR big bore kit(170cc). There is no direct affiliation between the two companies. SmartCarb had the good fortune to work with the original inventor of both technologies, William "Red" Edmonston before his passing in 2007 and have continued advanced development of the single circuit metering rod carb concept ever since. Having tested both the 38 Billetron and 38 Billetron Pro we see no discernible improvements in performance compared to earlier versions. Ease of use with stock cable acceptance and correct choke placement, yes. Easier starting with the "torque" jet, yes. Like the HV and H Series before them they are 34mm carburetors when measured at their narrowest cross section just behind the slide. Metering rod adjustment still requires slide removal. Conversely the SmartCarb is true-to-size (the size you order is the size you get), has that full external adjustability, and provides superior fuel atomization using only a single metering rod circuit due to its patented, integrated float bowl venting feature to assist fuel flow at all throttle positions. Proportional at-manifold float bowl venting with no dangly hoses and no need for secondary or tertiary fuel circuits. Our setup for the KLX140 stock or big bore are rock solid. Reach out when ready and we'll set you up!

Just read this...Nice infornation, but a bit dated. How about a repeat testing of both now that Lectron has released the Billetron 38? Own a 2017 KTM 250 sx and have a modded Mikuni TMX, Keihin PWK with STIC and a Lectron Billetron 38 (Orange, of course.) Truthfully, with all the work done to the Mikuni, it now runs pretty darn well so long as the temps don't change too drastically. The Keihin I literally did nothing to, it came to me flawless. Even so, I added an extended idle/air screw and that was that. The Lectron took 2 tries to get the metering rod right, but it now runs flawlessly as well....Probably give just a bit of a nod to the Lectron, though, as the best of the bunch. Your video has given me the bug to try the SC2. Between 4 carbs and especially like you've done between the 2, it would be great information to have for a dedicated MX bike.

The Smart Carb is just to pricey. I mean, even the Lectron's price is a bit steep as well for a carb, but it's not too far off from a Kiehin short bodies price. The Smart Carb, if they're argument is that it's more expensive because its billet and not cast, I'd say start making them cast then again and bring the price back down to stay competitive. A cast carb is going to outlive the bike more than likely anyway, so while the billet is cool and all, I'd rather save the $200 and have them make that SC2 more affordable.
@allmtbnzscottbrownhill28962 жыл бұрын
I guess its plauseable if the carb has no over flows/breathers that it could spill out into the crank case if the fuel tap is left turned on every bump would let a little more fuel in and it has no where to go but up. It would have to be a very bumpy road but we have all at some stage forgotten to turn the fuel off on the way back from a ride and had fuel stain below the bike fromt he over flow. If the bike tipped on its side and the float was just open a little bit i can also see that filling a crank case over time. Normally if you did that the fuel comes out the over flow or side breathers. There is an advantage to no breathers tho and that is no chance of getting them blocked on a muddy ride.

I wonder if the slides are bouncing open repeatedly during transport. It could also be the check balls inside the SC pumping under vibration.

Plus electron puts the choke on the wrong side of the bike where you can't get to it plus I could never get my idol to quit fluctuating either it was low or high as they don't have an idle circuit

In conclusion wich carb actually makes the 2strokes run better/crispier, better throttle response?

Have you tried the newer version of lectron? The Lectron Billetron PRO?
@mixalis61684 жыл бұрын
Hated the lectron, prefer a jetted carb, friend loves his smart carb, i now ride fuel injected 4T..

For XR650L, Lectron is priced at $799. Why such a difference in cost from model to model?
@prestonr.hannula88194 жыл бұрын
4 stroke carbs are different and cost more than 2 stoke carbs

Kyle, have you had a chance to compare the newest Lectron "Pro" to Smartcarb SC-2? There are lots of comparison videos out there but they are obsolete now that lectron has the new pro model. I am trying to decide which one to get, each seems to have its own advantages.

You forgot to mention the stock carb length. My 2019 YZ250 2-stroke stock carb is shorter than both at 75mm. (you measure 83 and 88mm) That is quite a bit, like 3/16" and 1/2" longer than my stock carb. Maybe different models have different lengths? I really don't want to compress my air box boot 1/2", (but I will if I have to), and I am not buying the smart carb.

I want to put a Lectron carb in my Cagiva raptor 125 What kinda of version I have to buy?

I am asking because I just bought a yz125x
@nicholasmorris6174 жыл бұрын
I love these videos buy can you do a lectron or smartcarb vs a PWK with the STIC metering block installed. Please o please man
@nicholasmorris6174 жыл бұрын
@Mateo Nieves well if your bike comes stock with a PWK it's cheaper than a lectron. But if you have to buy a PWK then its roughly the same price. The power gain are so worth it. It feels like you bolt a supercharger on your bike. And it compensates for altitude. It's the real deal

I never heard of the smart carb..
@sxsmarine40754 жыл бұрын
Pine Tree have one on my 300 and it’s amazing. Better fuel mileage and feels like EFI.
@crziness51764 жыл бұрын
@@sxsmarine4075 Same story here. I have their 40mm SC2 on my CR500R and it runs better than any well tuned carb I've had on any of my bikes. The throttle response is lightning fast to the point that it feels like an EFI bike, the power increase was very noticeable, it has more over-rev, the power curve is linear, it adjusts for altitude and is more efficient on fuel consumption. It literally does everything better than a normal carb. Any future carbureted bikes I have in the future will be getting the SmartCarb treatment right off the bat. I've never struggled with jetting carbs but when there's something easier and runs better than my best possible jetting on a standard carb, the SC2 is a no brainer if you have the money.

anybody know lectron carb that fits with a crf110 and cr80 ?
@brianlafollette75302 жыл бұрын
Where are the carbs made? Could that be part of the price difference.
@SmartCarbFuelSystems2 жыл бұрын
Both the Lectron and the SmartCarb are made in the USA. Price differences are due to the different manufacturing processes involved: cast vs billet CNC machined.

2024 Beta 300 RR RE, which version should i get : BILLETRON PRO ADJUSTABLE CARBURETOR WITH TPS or XCELERATOR METERING ROD ?
@SmartCarbFuelSystems4 ай бұрын
Go with the SmartCarb SC2. We've had the new dual spark '24 300RE Race on the dyno and they work very well with our new D-F series metering rods. Happy to share the dyno charts upon request. Reach out direct with any questions.

So what one is better smart carb or electron
@happyraccoon47914 жыл бұрын
$500-800 for a couple of hp or power band shift is kinda pricey. That buys a lot a porting and electronics. I rebuilt everything in my kx125 engine for less $$. Piston, rod kit, bearings, clutch, seals, gaskets, $115 in labor (crank rod and bearing install), plus my labor

It's not about HP. It's about the guys that run the bike at 1200 feet one week and 10,000 the next, then back to 1200 feet. With either of these carbs, they don't have to re-jet the bike when doing those swings in temp and elevation.
@happyraccoon47914 жыл бұрын
@@DirtBikeChannel if you're racing. I go to 7000 ft and back to 1000. I usually lean it out, maybe drop the needle. But I'm not racing

Aside from tuning, how is the power both in delivery and peak HP between a tuned Keihin and either of these carbs?
@SmartCarbFuelSystems7 ай бұрын
Size for size and optimally tuned we claim 10% over dialed conventional carburetion (Keihin or Mikuni) at peak and we stand behind those claims. Charts are strewn across the forums and on our social media accounts/website. Have yet to be impressed with a Lectron on the dyno or on the flow bench.

Do these carbs get Vapor Locked ?
@SmartCarbFuelSystems3 жыл бұрын
It's possible, yes. We've only really seen it happen when a customer overheats the carb with a carb heater on a snowbike application. In that case opening the choke for a second does the trick. We recommend ball valves in-line for those coolant circulating heaters to turn down the flow some.

I've got a Polini Dellorto VHST carb and had to drill out the idle jet tonight because it costs $80 to ship an idle jet from Italy, German, or UK. You say these carbs are Made in USA?
@SmartCarbFuelSystems Жыл бұрын
For our part, yes, SmartCarbs are made in the USA - namely Missouri with some turned parts coming out of Colorado.
