As an amateur, I decided on the shop lights because if I decide the hobby isn’t for me, I can simply hang them in my garage and basement.
@sharonrose27514 жыл бұрын
You don’t need full spectrum grow lights for greens. My mom used to get her African violets to bloom by putting them under full spectrum grow lights so they are useful for some purposes but not this.

I bought the cheap 6500k t8 shop lights. Love them. Micros look like these. I use the small green trays- cheap ones. Can’t be more happy. I also have 6500 led strips. They worked as well and were very narrow and easy to hang.

And how many lumens? Will that matter? I see barring T8 with 5000K, 40 W and 5000 L. That seems like too much all around. I am looking at using T8 for indoor seed starts.. your thoughts? Thanks.

With T8 you can sometimes improve results by mixing one cool white office tube with one warm white kitchen bulb. The contrast of differing hues is not so great as T12, however I still suspect there is a benefit. I am not sure the grow light tubes are better than a mixed pair. You might tape up aluminum foil or mylar on your ends to fill out the spotty growth. The dull side of the foil is the most reflective.

Glad to know the difference wasn't that great. I pulled the trigger on the T8 shop lights 6500k. The 10 pack was on sall and they came with the reflectors. Planning on just using the rflectors on the very outside edges of the two outer lights.

😀 Hi Lisa...We keep our lights at a distance of 8inches from the top of the tray, while most growers stick to 10 inches from the top of the tray...and then we daisy chain three lights (2000 lumens each) achieving 6000 lumens to grow under.

Thank you for sharing this comparison experiment. It good to know shop light maintain a competitive status in other studies. One faction important to mation is if the soil compositon was the same in both. A soil with higher organic composted material will yield a higher than an inorganic one. Additionally, just as important will be your type of fertilizer; organic vs. inorganic. In my experience, watts, lumens and Kelvins has nothing to do with taste but plant growth and health.

Hi there ! Have you compared the Barrina T8 shop lights with the reflectors ( 6500K ) with the Barrina T8 white grow lights ? I’ve got a succulent shelf that has the T8 Barrina Blurple and the Barrina T8 white grow lights ( 3900 Kelvin ). They’re the most colorful succulents in my whole house . But I recently got the T8 Barrina Shop lights that are 6500k . I’m alternating with one blurple , one shop light ...etc . I have 2 blurple and 2 shop lights on each shelf . I’m hoping I didn’t make a mistake not going with the Barrina T8 white grow lights . Hope you have a video comparing the Barrina white grow lights with the Barrina T8 shop lights . I didn’t realize there was a difference in spectrum til they’d already arrived . The shop lights with reflectors was cheaper . But only by $10 🤣. Guess if my plants lose color , I’ll know the white grow lights beat the white shop lights . Thanks for your videos 😊

Hey there, I am looking into the opportunity of launching a micro greens operation where I live and I have a plausible suggestion for you: you could easily swap the tubes with rectangular lights (those 30-50-100w ones you usually put on the exterior walls). In that way you would have way more lumens for the same investment, on the other side sacrificing some height space on the racks. Also it would be a fun test to do. Thanks a lot for your content, keep pushing out the great work

I’d love to, but the tests are $500-$1000 for each analysis. Since we’d be comparing lights, I’d have to do two tests so it’d be $1,000-$2,000 minimum. Just haven’t been able to justify that cost per test yet. Soon hopefully! 🤗🌱🌱

On The Grow you should do an experiment where you have a mix of full spectrum and shop lights on each shelf. Compare the results from full spectrum only, shop light only, and the mix of two shop light and one full spectrum. Maybe you could get the light manufacturer to sponsor the nutritional analysis.
