If you have factory switches installed, yes, they have factory relays per switch. You will just need to find the factory wire harness under the hood and test each wire to identify each switch. By "J" box I was referring to the electrical junction box. There should be a link in the videos description for a few options and where to purchase.

@WRECKERMANDAN
@WRECKERMANDAN 6 ай бұрын
Get them on the same group if you want them to have the same pattern at the same time. Run one rocker switch for the power (to turn them on/off) and then piggy back that same (input) power over to another rocker/momentary switch with the yellow wire on it. With this setup, one switch will control on/off, the other will allow you to change the pattern. 💪🤘

have a question, I am wiring up 8 hideaways and 6 surface mount lights to a switch box but ea. circuit on the switch box says it's good for 3 amps per switch, but i wanted to turn all lights on from 1 and use another for the solid white override on the rear hideaways. will I need relays ? also what size wire are you using, the leads on the lights I believe are 18ga. the lights do not give me what the amp draw is but it does say max input is 1.4 amps. thanks
@WRECKERMANDAN
@WRECKERMANDAN Жыл бұрын
You are probably not going to be able to put all thw lights on one switch if onyl a 3 amp max. With LEDs you may be able to come close. With the info provided, I would say atleast try it and then you will know the system's capabilities. A fault will most likely only accur or be noticed once the system has been all on for a little while. For the solid white override, you will need a relay to switch one operation off when the other is switched on. The relay can also be operated by the same switch controlling the overrides. Sorry for the late response and I hope I was able to help. Let me know how it goes...👍

@@WRECKERMANDAN thanks for the reply, I did build a relay box with 6 relays so I can run front and rears independently also another relay for the flood or solid white function for the rear hideaways, so now I won't rely on the switch to provide amperage, it should just turn on relay and draw amps from relay, relays are also fused for safety, I decided to use 16ga wire for the wiring harness, I have mounted lights, the feniex 4200 mini switch controller, just need to run the harnesses and mount the fuse/relay box and wire it up. It has been a long project since I have limited time to work on it but it's coming along, thanks for the help, I have also installed a couple 200ah batteries and 4000w inverter to run my welder and power tools, charge batteries etc. When I am on a job that I have no power or is too far away, so far has been working awesome along with the 60amp dc to dc charger I am never worried about being without power, much better IMO than hauling my generator or gas powered welder.

Hello, how to connect the yellow electric wire to the switch to change the mode Thank you
@WRECKERMANDAN
@WRECKERMANDAN Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the super late response. The yellow wire does not go to the switch. It only connects all the strobes together to allow them to comunicate with each other in order to stay synced. You can take it a step further by installing a switch for the yellow wire in order to change the pattern. This would require a momentary switch which also has a constant 12v so you could momentarily flip the switch and supply the power to the yellow wire to change patterns for a real clean install.

Ya, I just cut into the yellow, once all connected, wherever is a convenient spot for you, to install a butt connector to jump with power if you ever just want to change the flash sequence/pattern. Doing that will not mess up your groupings or sync. You could even run a fused powered switch to the yellow and use that switch then to change flash sequence/pattern.

Im not sure why your experiencing that problem. What light are you working with? They may not be keeping memory. Depending on the light you have, it may need to have a constant power in order to store its settings, or it just might not be capable of storing settings. 🤷‍♂️

It has something to do with the board. Maybe no caps to store a saved setting. @@WRECKERMANDAN yeah man the lights I had gotten were off of Amazon, they were in fact the cheaper kind. As you said they don’t store a memory for some reason. I thought would have been as long as the wires were connected to power they would hold the current pattern but won’t do it unfortunately. I have a full time lawn business so having some lights as these really help me to be seen out by the road side. I wired two of them into one of my zero turns then wired a push button style switch (originally was a horn switch) to it and it works fine just sucks to cycle through about 8 different patterns every time. Great video, only question is do you have a video showing how to wire lights in groups and what it looks like
@WRECKERMANDAN
@WRECKERMANDAN 3 жыл бұрын
In this video I wire the lights in groups on the grill and tailboard and sides of truck. On the grill, group one and two are kitty-corner from each other. Group one is also on the sides of the truck and group two is also on the tailboard. All lights were grouped previously in the beginning of the video when I show how to program grouping. This needs to be done prior to wiring together. Flash pattern can be set/changed afterwards. Once the lights are programed/group assigned, they can all be wired together in the same harness utilizing the same power. Make sure to connect all the lights together with the sync wire so that when power is applied momentarily to the sync wire it will change the flash pattern on all the lights so they will continue to all be on the same pattern. Group one and two could be seperated with their own sync wire for each group if you wanted to be able to have each group flashing a different pattern. Hope this helps clarify some things.
@Deerector
@Deerector Жыл бұрын
so to clarify syncing.... first you touch the sync wire to a positive to cycle through to the pattern you want? we do each light individually. then once they are all on lets say, pattern number 13, then we splices the yellows together? is this correct?

I'm designing e-bikes. Not just bikes with a milk crate on the back with batteries cobbed together but really nice designs. One bike at a time. Beat the hell out of it and see what breaks and what holds up and off to the next generation. I have a 12 volt battery for the headlight, high and low beam, turn signals, front and back, and horn. All is good. What I don't have is a brake light. I want to install a strobe brake light but there's one problem. The brake levers are 5 volts into the controller. When I pull the brake lever it cuts power to the motors increasing the braking power, as it should be. How can I tap into that 3 wire 5 volt connection to use the 12 volt battery power to illuminate a brake light and still cut the power to the motor? I need to take a normally open circuit and use it when it's closed to allow the brake lever, when pulled to cut the power to the motor, and allow the 12 volt battery to give current to the brake light. Does that make any sense? I'd really appreciate any advice you can give me on this.

@46B3x2you
@46B3x2you 4 жыл бұрын
@@WRECKERMANDAN Thank you. That's what I came up with too. I think I can get away with just one relay, because when I put on the brakes, I pull both brakes at the same time. My question is... Normally Open Relay or Normally Closed? When the brake lever is at rest there is current to the motors. That would seem to me to be normally closed. When the brake lever is pulled there is no current to the motors. That would seem like I need a normally open relay. Does that sound right to you or do I have it bass ackward? I really appreciate your responding to my question. I really didn't expect to get a response. I'll be looking at more of your videos to see the lights you have on your site and see all the options available with regard to style and flash patterns. Maybe I'll change out the turn signals entirely with something new... Something unconventional, something different. The relays are cheap enough that I could just order both and figure it out, but I like the fact that this is the kind of thing that you do. I don't want to be a bother. I know your busy and thank you again for getting back to me. You do really nice work and that's an inspiration to me. I have a never ending thirst for knowledge and design is my juice of choice. @WRECKERMANDAN
@WRECKERMANDAN 3 жыл бұрын
Same as in the video. Group(assign) each light BEFORE connecting(wiring) together. Seperately power each light, to check, making sure it is correctly assigned/grouped before connecting the sync wire to each. Then install your corresponding groups/lights in the diagonal or whatever pattern/layout you want. Now wire everything together. Make sure you connect the sync wire on all. Do not have them powered during connecting, wait till completely wired to power on. When the entire system/chain of lights is powered on now the lights will communicate through the sync wire and the pre-assigned groups will be in sync. This how you get the bounce back and forth effect. For example, the upper left and bottom right in a diagonal pattern are group two, the upper right and bottom left are group 1. Refer to the video on how to assign groups. Since you have a four wire, one wire might just be to group or change pattern while the other is to only sync. Refer to your manufacturers owners/install manual or just play around with it before installing. Im sure its roughly the same concept, the manufacturer may have just seperated functions onto another wire to simplify the setup. Hope this helps, let me know if your experiencing issues.

Many people have trouble understanding, and I realize maybe I didnt explain this clear enough in my video, but in order to enter the grouping mode. Powrr must be sent to the power wire and the pattern wire at the same time. You can not power the light and then put power to the pattern wire, this will only change the pattern. Power must be applied to both at the same time, then while continuing to hold power on the power wire remove power from only the pattern wire and then re-apply power to the pattern wire. It can be a bit tricky. If using a power probe wrap the power wire around the tip to help hold it while moving the pattern wire on and off of power to assign the desired group.

I have not seen anything refering to a max amount of units that can be synced together. Operates at less than 1A which varies by flash pattern. Just take into account recommended fuse for 1 unit is 1A. Also remember there are only two group modes to alternate between. The ST3 model has 12 flash patterns while the ST6 has 19.

Group each light first, either group 1 or group 2, set each strobes flash pattern, then wire all together connecting all three wires. The yellow wire is the sync wire. This is how they communicate with each other. Once they are all wired together then power the entire harness.

@WRECKERMANDAN
@WRECKERMANDAN 5 жыл бұрын
@@El_witda_rr There is more than likely a junction box that all the strobes are wired into that connects to you auxilary switches. This box will probly be mounted in the bed somewhere. Its possible there is corrosion in the box on the terminals or a break in a wire somewhere. Most common is a ground issue. Retrace all the wires from your auxilary switches and the lights to find where they are all connected to each other. Dodge also has a factory issue with aux. switches sometimes failing. This would be the last thing to check and would require a visit to the dealer.

This is an old comment but if you haven't already ask around, usually there are aftermarket light shops or off-road customization shops that do this kind of thing on the regular. If you don't have a clue where to start call a wrecker service ask who puts in their lights, or call your local PD and ask who installed theirs. You're bound to find something
