what you see on Jimmy’s face is ecstasy. Yes, how can one watch the blazing smile he gives to Robert during that performance and not either get chills, or smile broadly in return...just to witness such utter happiness of a person playing at the height of their gifts.....Robert has often said that he considers the musicianship in this song as the best of rock. Jimmy was never as happy as when he shared with stage with Robert...even after Zeppelin died...when they shared the stage, there was always that smile. They played so well off of one another.

From an album basically recorded in two weeks (with Robert Plant then reduced to singing from a wheelchair after an accident), this is pretty good going. It's totally a rhythm track and the studio version has Jimmy playing multiple overdubs to create his infamous 'guitar army'. They had sort of cornered the market in 'epic rock' and it's never been done quite the same.

This festival was the big return for Zep after a few years of misfortune. They were ready to dominate the world again. Sadly, Bonzo passed away just a year after this and Led Zep was no more. He was just 32. 1980 was a tragic year. We also lost John Lennon and Bon Scott from AC/DC that year.

the first LED zeppelin concert that i want to i was 17 years old it was in indianapolisin january of 1975then i saw them in 1977in the early nineties i saw page and plant 4 timesbuffalo cleveland indianapolisadd pittsburgh showsthen i saw jimmy page with the black crowes in pittsburghand they did the lemon song which was awesomei am so luck

I also prefer the studio version of this, but nobody can deny the power of Zeppelin live. Even though Jimmy is fighting heroin addiction here and Plant still mourning the loss of his son, Bonzo battling alcohol addiction........they still put on one hell of a show.

If you like Queen you should check out a band called The Sweet . It is argued there would be no queen without them . They took allot of "inspiration" from the sweet (allot of bands did ) and according to sweet.,Tie your mother down was actually theirs . They have numerous hits in the seventies and had a wide range of styles from bubblegum to prog rock . They were one of the original glam bands of the 70's .

Usually I prefer my Zeppelin live, because of the energy and charisma. In this case you REALLY need to listen to the studio version. Even if you don’t reCt to it, promise me you’ll listen to it. Jimmy has like 10 different guitar overdubs going on......impossible to do live. He is trying to grab parts off of all those different strands in the live version and it makes it seem that his playing is a bit sloppy to many people. It had been raining...you can see Roberts breath....the band has been performing for hours, Roberts voice was tired and he’s still mourning his dead son...his demeanor is different from years past...I’m not saying this isn’t a masterpiece, because it is a masterpiece of prog rock. The musicianship is off the charts. But please do listen to the studio version in order to get the true magnificence of what they accomplished. Robert Plant has called the musicianship of the three players on this song the best in rock. And finding the lyrics to match what had been created, one of his greatest challenges while being in Zeppelin.

i think you should always do the studio version of LED zeppelin firstremember my good friend it is the studio version of the songs that made them popularif you want to true virgin experience of what we all went through at the time you have to listen to the originalit was the original stairway to heaventhat was the to experience not some live thing became later
