Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and went on to become one of the most influential, innovative, and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Jimmy Page brought in John Bonham, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant to tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut which was produced by Page, as were all the subsequent albums. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world.

Much like a beautiful woman is just as beautiful without makeup to the man that awakens beside her, this live performance of these 3 instrumentalist & a vocalist is every bit as special to most of us. In many ways more so BECAUSE its imperfections. The imperfections make the emotions that are part of the appeal of this performance more "real".

Imagine being in 1969 and the heaviest thing you've ever heard is The Rolling Stones and Deep Purple, and then you suddenly hear this on the radio. I legitimately can not imagine the shock you would feel at how heavy this is. I am forever envious of my dad and the experience of the British invasion that he had.

I remember seeing them in concert in Cleveland. Their first album had just come out and people really didn't know that much about them. I sat down in the front row just talking to people. There were only about 200 people in the hall. All of a sudden the lights went down and the curtains opened and there they were. They broke out with Communications Breakdown and I was awestruck. They were so loud that the sound was pushing me back against my seat. I couldn't take my eyes off them after that. They played that whole first album that night and it's a night I will never forget.

gtoloverful ; that is of course always open to opinion. I would say: judge musicians by both their historical place in music and their influence. Then I would like to propose people like: Ginger Baker, RIngo Starr (yes you will be surprised but he is in fact a very solid drummer when giving him several listening proofs), John Bonham, Keith Moon, Bill Bruford, Stewart Copeland, Gene Krupa, Mitch Mitchell, Neil Peart, Lars Ulrich and because he is a fav of mine, Scott Rockenfield.

My favorite version of this. Robert was only about 20 here, his voice so unbelievably powerful. Aside from that, this song has sentimental meaning for me as it reminds me of someone I once cared deeply for, and he did "leave" me. I just hope he's alright, wherever he is.

Dude, I remember when Tool's Sober video came out on Headbanger's Ball and almost was late for school the next few days staying up trying to record it to VHS. And that was for a more modern band. In 1970 I was 13 and in the church choir. One day at the beach as usual every radio was tuned to Dale Dorman 68 AM WRKO. I heard Dazed and Confused for the first time. My life was changed. I bought the album, soon after bought a guitar and grew my hair. My life's path was changed forever. Still have the album, still have the guitar, still love to sing and play. Although the guitar is in fragile condition it is immortalized as a tattoo on my arm. Oh to be young and impressionable once again.

@@MrAdomus yup,I agree with you saying he probably just forgot the lyrics. In interviews he's often said he was never great at remembering lyrics, it would take him a good amount of play throughs to get them stuck in his head. There was always a lot of improvisation going on anyway so I don't think anything's lost in this performance. I love this whole set, so stripped back, no production and just raw🔥

Crazy to me that plant was only 20 when this album came out, and that it was over 50 years ago now.. The raw power and range of his vocals is truly astonishing to say the least. Led Zeppelin will live forever, long live the Kings of R&R!
