I had no idea you were so well-read on the subject. Also you books are in such pristine condition, even ones from several decades ago. The paper and even the covers just sparkle. Thank you sharing.

The first album I purchased was Led Zeppelin II when I was 12 or 13. It was a few years old by then but my older sister had moved out of the house and took her copy with her.

Hello JJ...I was listening to some Led Zep the other day and I was wondering if you know whether or not Jimmy is playing his Yardbird's Tele on "Since I've Been Loving You" on Led Zeppelin III? I had heard that he did use that guitar in the studio in the early years of the band. The solo on that song has to be one of the best studio-recorded guitar solos ever! You have such a great ear compared to most of us humans I thought I save myself some research time. One of those books might mention something about it? Be safe...Be well...

James, What would you say is the best studio Zeppelin book that you recommend? Like the stories behind the albums.

I bought “Dazed and Confused: The story behind every Led Zeppelin song” by Chris Welch. After reading it, I had to honestly wonder if Chris Welch actually ever listened to a Led Zeppelin song.

I expected more from Chris Welch, to be honest.

Hey JJ. My ex brother-in-law was in a band in the 1980s called The Firm. Apparently they had the legal rights to that name. Jimmy Page and company bought the rights to that name from them.

The Ritchie Yorke book was the first LZ book and was authorized by the band. You were holding a copy of the revised book. Hammer of the God's relied on some of the facts. It came out in 1976 UK." A Visual Documentary" book came out in 1983 and is recommended as is " Chris Welch's " Led Zeppelin The Book " 1984 UK.

Hi, I've been a fan of your videos for years, I think the first video I ever watched was the Sweet Virginia lesson on the old channel! I've been getting into Zeppelin again recently (thanks in part to your videos) but in light of things like #MeToo I'm having trouble squaring my love of the band and their music with some of the things they got up to in the 70s, especially Jimmy and his "relationships" with underage girls. As someone who is obviously very knowledgeable about the band, have any of these issues been addressed? Has Jimmy ever spoken about them? I don't bring this up to cause aggro, I ask because I respect your knowledge of Zeppelin and because I also love the band but want to do right by victims of abuse. Can we still listen to Zeppelin despite the things Jimmy (and probably the others as well) did back then?
@jamesjames92754 жыл бұрын
All heroes are flawed. Still, I think Jimmy is a very different person than he was in the Zeppelin days. He’s been honored for the charitable trust he founded to help homeless Brazilian children. I hope the does a little bit to even out the cosmic scales.

This question is for anyone to answer. I want to buy the best Biography book about Led Zeppelin, which is the best? Don't care about pictures or none of that extra stuff. Just the best book about the band. Thanks in advance.

Ive read a lot of these Zep books. And all of the jimmy page ones. For pictures nobody shot them better than Neil Preston. Access and determination although apparently he was kind of ornery and the band had mixed feelings about him. For content? Not a one. . There’s a hell of a story out there but hasn’t been written yet. I was looking forward to the Salewicz bio of Page but it’s crap. Regurgitated stale anecdotes. If Benji LeFevre (LZ road manager) ever decides to cash in ...there’s your book (for one). Or Richard Cole. (Stairway to Heaven just scratched the surface and I don’t think he was in great shape when he wrote it).

I read the Mick Wall book. I would not recommend it either. It’s very derogatory towards other bands.

I always wonder how come a skinny guy like Jimmy Page could do 2-3 hour live shows with a heavy Lespaul without having back problems.. I was told his Lp was made with old mahogany of premium quality that wasn't that heavy..

Is there a comprehenisive single volume biography/chronicle of the band, suitably impartial but not sensationalised, with enough detail to be interesting?
@jamesjames92754 жыл бұрын
The Keith Shadwick book isn't bad. But there aren't many definitive books that tell the story of the band, you'd have better luck getting a good Jimmy Page bio to get the band's story.

There was bad blood between Zeppelin's management and Bill Graham, the Bay Area concert promotor. At the July 23, 1977 Day on the Green, a Graham employed security guard was hassling Peter Grant's son (Grant was Zep's manager) for tearing a Zep banner from one of the dressing room trailers. Bonham saw this and yelled at and kicked the guard. When Grant heard about it, he grabbed Zep's head of security (John Bindon) and tour manager (Richard Cole), and they took the guard into the trailer and beat him up. The next day, the cops (SWAT, apparently) arrested Grant, Bonham, Cole and Bindon. Rock 'n' Roll!
