I haven't listened to CODA in quite some time. And if I do listen to anything off of that album It's usually Ozone Baby. But usually after watching your show and you're focusing on a particular album album. I will eventually end up listening to that album after your show. I probably have more of an interest in finding stuff here on KZbin on Zeppelin than actually listening to the records amongst your show. About a year ago I started watching a KZbinr that goes by JCM Led Zeppelin stories his show is well done he's a very accomplished guitarist and usually writes the opening music to the show. He's covered many making of episodes. If you enjoyed Zeppelin that much he's worth checking out. Looking forward to your next segment.

It’s shocking how good they were. Every band ever wants the 10 mil dollar bomb track that the kids will listen to 50 years later and that the radio plays for generations. @@Bootradr , hey Brian. I remember how stoked I was when this came out. A year before, I got heavily into Led Zeppelin’s catalogue when a radio station played their entire library from A to Z. It began with Achilles Last Stand and ended with You Shook Me, though Your Time Is Gonna Come was the more “proper” finale. The next year, Robert Plant releases his solo debut Pictures At Eleven. Jimmy Page composed the music for Death Wish 2. So it was a treat to find out “new” Led Zeppelin was coming out after the wake of the irreplaceable John Bonham. And the “other guy”- John Paul Jones, of course, well, it’d be a while before we got to hear about him. We’d see him at Live Aid. God bless Led Zeppelin.

I am a big defender of CODA a album that gets misunderstood a lot. I have heard many people say they do not included in their "rankings" as its not a "real album" uggg that drive me crazy. They say since its out takes it does not count, well Physical Graffiti is full out past outtakes from albums so it is not any different. I do listen to this a lot and probably my second go to lately when spinning records. I too love the "soundcheck" version of I Can't Quit You Babe on the album. We're Gonna Groove is a live version and a song they would kick off shows with thought Page stripped the crowd noise off it. CODA is better than most other bands best album. These are all strong songs that get no love. Wearing and Tearing is punk/metal/rock wrapped up LZ style. All these tracks shine and us hardcore real fans know this. CODA always gets ranked last when people try and rank the albums, which just can't do. The 2015 Deluxe edition would of been even bigger if it was released in 1982, but considering the time and they just needed to have one album fulfill the contract term. I would think Page mindset was still in morning so he just took the songs that were done or needed little cleaning up to put the album together. Did you know Plant did do some vocals for CODA in 1982 for the album some overdubs etc. This article got it right. I have made a few videos on CODA check them out. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6ekk2ahmbmLjtk

It’s nice to see someone enthusiastic about a Led Zeppelin album that doesn’t get much love. This is a powerful version of I Can’t Quit You Baby. Poor Tom is the most unique song. The drum shuffle beat combined with the acoustic guitar is something that wasn’t attempted much for its time. As you said, it would’ve fit in great on Led Zeppelin III. It probably would’ve made a better closer than Hats Off To Roy Harper. Walter’s Walk would’ve probably fit in well on Houses Of The Holy. If they fit more songs on the album back then, it would’ve fit in well after The Crunge. Bonzo’s Montreaux is interesting, like you said. The 3 songs in side 2, which were outtakes of In Through The Out Door, sound a little more back to basics than most of the album. The 1st 2 sound like they could’ve been a single. In my opinion, they should’ve been singles. Ozone Baby is a fun song which seems to point the way to Robert Plant’s solo career. Darlene is an excellent honky tonk blues song. Wearing And Tearing, I will agree with you, was the weakest song here in my opinion. However, if someone loves it, great. I’m glad Hey Hey What Can I Do got to be on the remastered CD, where I think it belonged. White Summer/ Black Mountain Side is a plugged in take of 2 folk songs. Traveling Riverside Blues is a tour de force. It’s one of those rare Zeppelin songs that you can dance to! Baby Let’s Play House is a nice bluesy ballad, made popular by one of Percy’s heroes Elvis Presley. While we’re on the subject, happy belated birthdays to Jimmy Page and Elvis (in Heaven).

"I Can't Quit You Baby" and We're Gonna Groove" were live versions from Royal Albert Hall, both were great representations of the band, especially in a live setting. "Wearing and Tearing" was a response of Led Zeppelin to the punks, It may not be everyone's favorite track but I like how tight the band is during the faster parts... I don't think Bonham gets enough credit how his sound was evolving during that time ("Fool in the Rain?") and playing was becoming "tighter..." Bonham was even doing session work for folks like Paul McCartney's Wings.

It was (with the benefit of hindsight) an album for people who were already fans. Sadly when it came out I was only aware of them via what would become the Top Of The Pops theme and Stairway To Heaven. There was nothing on this album to pull a casual and largely unfamiliar listener in and an unwarranted drum solo on top to repel them. Years later the (corn field) greatest hits and No Quarter would finally draw me in, but as someone who was at best only vaguely curious about Zepp at the time this album was far from an ideal first introduction.

Yikes! Wearing and Tearing is my favorite song on the album. For me the weak spot is Walters Walk. Plant often sings behind the beat, but on this song, the sliding vocal is so far behind the beat that I can't quite catch the melody or the rhythm. Both We're Gonna Groove and I Can't Quit You Baby were recorded live at their 1970 Royal Albert Hall concert. "Groove" has many added overdubs, but "I Can't Quit..." is presented as played live except for some small edits and all the audience sound has been removed. You can hear and see both of these songs on the Led Zeppelin DVD which contains almost all of that concert (for some reason, the song "Thank you" was omitted).

Not a waste of vinyl. But, by far the lowest regarded of their albums beating out Presence and Zep 3. The unfinished business behind its creation isn't very flattering either. They owed Atlantic Records another album and they had back taxes to pay. With that said, We're Gonna Groove is a pretty solid track and Walter's Walk is a personal favorite. Poor Tom is underrated as is Darlene. A second version of I Can't Quit You Baby was unnecessary. The original version of Bonzo's Montreux is far better than what Page changed it into later.

Lame, click bait title. It’s a zeppelin album. You do good work I appreciated. Bonzos Montrose could be a modern hip hop record itself.

still love it. it’s ZEP

I bought it when it first came out and still have it. It’s my least favorite Zep album, but there are still some great tracks on there.

A waste of vinyl? For sure NOT! It may be their weakest album, but it's still pretty good. I prefer the second side to the first.

Wearing and Tearing, I think, is the best song of their last unreleased pieces, but plants vocal take isn’t great. Love Baby, Come on Home from the extended edition. Can’t believe they didn’t include it in the original coda. I wish they would have included it on their debut album. Fantastic r and b song

Vocals sound like ITTOD .. as it was recorded in 78.

This record is great the song wearing tearing is led Zeppelin doing metal Walters walk poor Tom and I can't quit you baby was a better version on this album rather than the first album just a great album they claim it was a bunch of demos but to me they sounded like regular songs it didn't sound like demos to me this was great stuff

For me, Coda has never really been a full album. It’s just a compilation of watered down, leftover songs. Although it does have its moments, it’s still far from memorable and doesn’t stack up to anything else they’d previously done.

"I love vinyl, not just because of the sound" - of course not. The presentation is the ONLY thing there is to like about large albums. Vinyl itself is shite only pseudo-nostalgic idiots can believe is an advantage.

I tend to agree with you. Once you've heard a CD played through an excellent tube-driven stereo amplifier all that stuff about vinyl "warmth" goes out the window.

Nothing Zep did could be waste… though I rarely listen past Presence.

Since they contractually needed another album, & not wanting a replacement drummer, this is what Jimmy came up with. Rough drafts of songs, for whatever reason, they decided not to use.

Firstly let me just say I'm a massive Zeppelin fan. Got into them around 1973 and had all their records. Saw them live at Earls Court and Knebworth. On to the subject at hand, Coda is horrible. Didn't like it when it came out, like it even less now. The first track is great, and the second is good. Didn't need the third, already got it. After that it's dreadful. Hate everyone one of the remaining five tracks, especially Ozone Baby and Darlene. I believe a later version came out adding Hey Hey What Can I Do and that bluesy thing with the slide thats name I can't recall on it. That would improve it a bit, because both of those are great, but it still wouldn't elevate the album above mediocre.

It should have included Hey Hey What Can I Do. Crazy they were still, nope it's just a B side.
@babylemonade286816 күн бұрын
Absolutely not but wearing and tearing and Darlene should have been on in through the outdoor👍

Hell no. Darlene and We're Gonna Groove alone makes it a record worth buying

It is meh. Listen to these tracks and listen to the actually released tracks from the same period. There is a reason why these were shelved. They weren't BAD - they just weren't up to snuff. Also, you are oh so preaching to the choir when you talk about enjoying LPs as a whole experience (cover art, gatefold sleeves, pics, detailed credits, lyrics, etc...). Elton John's releases were the ultimate in that Also, can't forget inscriptions between the runout grooves after the last song on an album side...
