I think that this song was inspired by the band watching some World Cup footage that was in Argentina in 78. I guess this song was inspired by those latin beats, fortunately. Bonzo’s drumming is something else. Amazing the breadth of musical knowledge that Zeppelin pulled from.

I've found it interesting that everyone always revels in the instruments and doesn't mention Plant's contribution. The only member of the band who has consistently maintained relevancy for the last 40 years since the demise of Zep. Granted Page and Jonesy have recorded and performed since Bonham's death. Plant has singularly grown and expanded his craft and has been popularly accepted beyond the others.

'Fool in the Rain' is a shuffling Latin rock song which breaks into a samba rhythm, inspired by the theme music of the 1978 FIFA World Cup in Argentina. Overview 'Fool in the Rain' was rehearsed in a number of different styles at Polar Studio, with singer Robert Plant selecting the best version to record.

Alison, you picked a bona fide all-time classic with this amazing song! Have you heard the isolated track of Bonzo's drumming on it? If not, give it a listen--and be sure to listen to the whole thing, as there's a pause in the middle that could fool (pun intended) someone into thinking the video was over. The Bonzo triplet shuffle is in the manual for drummers looking to up their game and stand out from the rest of the timekeepers in bands. It can be difficult to learn, but if you play by ear, you're probably a bit more adept to pick up the nuances.

LED ZEP SECRET: In INSIDE sleeve of the original release LP had a hidden secret. It was shown as a bar scene made up of Dots. Like an artful pattern. Well, if you wet a brush, and run it along the black dots, colors would appear and you can water color in the entire inside sleeve. Just like the Front cover of the album suggests... a swipe with a paint brush... Brilliant even in the sleeve designs.

Notice the album cover is all a sepia tone, except the “swipe” of color. This was a hint. I owned the vinyl back when it came out. The inner album liner had a picture (I can’t remember what it was anymore) that was made up of little black dots like old newsprint photos. If you took a damp cloth and “swiped” across the dots, they would release their colored dye and you could paint the liner! Besides the great music, I’ve always remembered that cool feature!

iirc, there were multiple versions of the album cover. They were the same scene, but taken from different angles (perhaps one for each person in the room?).

Bonham's tribute to Bernard Purdie of New Orleans and the Purdie Shuffle. Peerless drumming, inventive guitar tonality, Latin inspired keys and a happy Plant melody. In other words, another great Zeppelin track. According to Plant, it was inspired by the World Cup coverage from Brazil that year (1978), and their outro music on the live feed.
