The storyteller is telling his tale and then moving on. He tried, but realized that he was not going to change her. in his heart he loved her, but in the end he knew it wouldn't last, because she was who she was, and she didn't want to change. Lesson learned. Another blues classic from LZ.

It's kind of a theme with Robert. Fool In The Rain is the same. He's fallen in love with a woman that either plays around or is a working girl, and is in that painful realization that he's not going to get the commitment he wants. Which is funny cuz another theme is that he's gonna get restless and have to Ramble On himself

It has a disco feel to it, almost like Greg Kihn's song Jeopardy. If you haven't heard that, you may want to check that out.... It's here on KZbin under:Down Under original version.I heard it before the version we know was released in the US on an 8 track format.Once upon a time,I was a vinyl collector. At my peak,I had over 63,000 records.About 10 years ago, I sold my entire collection to the Smithsonian institution.I could have sold them for more piecemeal, but I got a dollar a record regardless of what it was.So some,I got more than what they were worth, some I took a huge loss on.I kept the very best if the best, and rarest of the rare.I still have the Beatles butcher album unopened.I still have some Robert Johnson on 78 rpm.I still have the Stones/Marianne Faithful's Spoonful.I still have a DJ copy of Stairway to heaven,ect,ect...I used to have your countrymen actually fly over to buy soul records from me because of the scarcity of soul records in your country.I was part of the Keystone record club, and we wrote books every year setting the world prices for what records were worth....me, and about 20 other collectors from all over America.

Many of LZs songs throughout their career were re-makes of old American Blues some dating back to the 1920s. This was one of them. And many with lyrics that are hyper-sexual or violent are taken from these early relics. That made more sense to me when I originally thought Robert Plant had a great sense of American levee and dam history. It's a real thing and many tragedies existed hence the blues song When The Levee Breaks. Thank you again Brad & Lex!

@@johnr.8275 : Same thing in "Ramble On". The guitar chord changes are easy, but the bass is what carries the song with Bonzo's bodhran playing a steady tap, too.
