This was the last song on the last album released in John Bonham’s lifetime. They never performed it live. It’s about the pain and frustration of being so in love. Blues/rock/soul. I think it’s one of Robert’s best vocals. The sensuality oozes out. Page’s solo is one of his greatest slow blues. It may have been their last but it was one of their best - all four members at their best.

@@pauldarrigo8842 ummm, no. Actually Robert Plant dedicated In My Time of Dying to the Lord Chancellor about the tax rules. The whole album was indeed done during their exiled time but this particular song is about love. I have several authorized Led Zeppelin books that talk about the songs. The most comprehensive is Led Zeppelin, All the Songs, The Story behind Every Song. Pages 534-537 go into the genesis of the song, the production of the song, little known facts, etc. of I’m Gonna Crawl. Also, online in Song Facts: "I'm Gonna Crawl" is the last song on In Through the Out Door, the last Led Zeppelin album before drummer John Bonham's death. Zeppelin bass player John Paul Jones wrote most of it. Robert Plant's lyric is yearning; he loves his girl so much he's gonna crawl to her. Soul singer Wilson Pickett's music was the inspiration for this track.

Well Mark, we share an opinion on this : a masterpiece of "less is more", beautiful song and possibly my favourite solo of Jimmy's (alongside Since I've Been Loving You), every note counts, so much emotion leading up to Robert's pained screams towards the end. One of their most underrated songs, the preceding track on the album, All My Love, is another heartbreaker (wee Zeppy play on words, free of charge too!), a song about Robert's young son passing away suddenly, played it at my own son's funeral, hard not to appreciate its' beauty even through the tears. Keep up the sterling work young man, you're a star.

Zeppelin was the first band that went all in on and I actively pursued getting concert tickets for. It was the tour that never was…1980. I was 13 and cursed that we had a different newspaper subscription than the one with applications for the concert that November. I was OBSESSED with Moby Dick and to this day Bonham remains ( at least for me) the best drummer ever.

Yaaay... and we are back to a little slice of heaven..... And the relevance of this being "their last" was that this was their last studio album before John Bonham died. Their very last album was called Coda and was a compilation of tracks recorded but not considered for release on any of the previous albums over the previous 12 years. So glad to see you being transported again... Keep on Rocking...

Yes, this the the last album in their main body of work, before John's sad death. They released another album called 'Coda' of bits & pieces that were already in the can, and a drum tribute to Bonzo [ Bonzo's Montreux ]. Since then there have been box sets released containing previously unreleased material. But, from their own comments, if it hadn't made it onto an album yet, it was probably because they didn't think it was worthy.

Been patiently waiting in the wings for a return to LZ and you didn't disappoint brother! It makes you think what the 80s could have sounded like had the world not lost John Bonham. I look at what Danny Carey is doing in his 60s and I can't help but wonder how much more music we would have had from LZ and how much better Bonham would have gotten.

Yes, this is the last song on the final Led Zeppelin album. Two years after the last American tour and two years on from the death of Plant's 5-year old son, with Page strung out on smack and Bonham a full blown alcoholic who'd be dead in a year. All things considered, it's not bad.

Doesn't matter what point they came together in their careers. When they were together, they produced magic. Call it chemistry or whatever. I aways wondered what they had in store for their next album. Jimmy has remarked that he and John were gonna make a different, very hard, more technically difficult record for the next album. WHAAAAT????

"Led Zeppy Lullaby" -- HA! And other timeless phrases you conjured up for this bloozy AF banger! Great as always, Hector, you'd dig the live version of "I can't quit you baby" (Studio of course is great as well) from 1970. Royal Albert Hall. There's a vid that is the same as the audio off of "CODA," their "post break-up" or whatever album of "extras," in a way. Drums kick ass, and Jimmy's solos are even better than this one was!

You've really only touched the surface of Zeppelin, there are so many more great songs, Tea for One, Ten Years Gone and Achilles Last Stand to name a few, and I look forward to you reacting to them, unless you already have, I honestly don't remember. Somebody please bring me dooooooooooooooooooooowwwn....💯🥴 Every little bit every little bit every little bit...🔥🔥🔥 Not on the same level as SIBLY or IMTOD, But a great, sombre blues song to close out what was, arguably, LZ's most reflective, vulnerable album. This album introduced Zeppelin to a much broader audience and solidified their reputation of excelling at anything and everything they tried. The only thing they forgot to do was invent Rap and Hip-hop. So rap and hip-hop had to go it alone and base their entire genres on sampling Led Zeppelin.

"In through the out door" doesn't get the props it deserves. By this stage, Jimmy's heroin addiction was full blown, and so JPJ had to take over more of the producing, hence the reliance on keys (keys were also taking off at this time in most music genres). When i first heard this album, i found the change off-putting but over time, a new appreciation has been found for this album. This song, in particular, along with Tea for One (from the Presence album) are underrated gems. Oh, and i don't think Brain has done For your Life yet...a must listen.
