Ive found 2 other versions . Jesus is a Dying Bed Maker by Charlie Patton ( very different sounding ) and a Josh White version that I think Zep used as a model for their explosive take on an old time hymn .

Led Zeppelin definitely did the south justice with the way they worked with the material. Should've given credit initially, but at least they aren't hypocrites. They're fine with sampling John Bonham's drums. Gotta give massive props on that.

I saw an interview john Paul Jones gave once saying, “they were a jam band”. Some bands can only pull off their songs in a recording studio or play live note for note like the recording. Led Zeppelin could play any of their songs for as long as they wanted because they were such good musicians. JPJ with Bonham kept the pulse beating while Jimmy and Plant took their creative liberty. Not all bands are good live. With KZbin we get to watch these live performances none of us got to see even though we bought their albums as fast as they hit the record store. Greatest band of all time, period.

I saw them in 73, 75, and 77 and the Physical Graffiti of 75 Tour they were tighter and rocked hard much like the 68-71 period. 73 was exciting because it was my first and 77 lacked energy and you could see the band was getting in trouble. At least that’s my view now as opposed to then.

Near the end of this song, Robert sings "You know you shook me baby, you shook me all night long". Those are lyrics from another song of theirs called You Shook Me. You should try that one next. If you want a Zeppelin funk jam, do Trampled Under Foot from this same concert at Earls Court. Don't worry about trying to rank bands; each have songs for a time, place, mood, emotion and sometimes you need to hear a certain style because that's what you're feeling. I'm just glad you're enjoying them all. Now that you've been discovering this music, have you been sharing with friends/family? If so, what do they think?

Everything about this is PERFECT!! the rhythm section so hot and Jimmy's slide and of course Robert. I love the way the "movements" of this song weave in and out and then back in - such a masterpiece!!! The song was based in church and was recorded by Blind Willie Johnson back in the 1920's. This is that song on steroids!!!! Thanks for the great reaction. ☮

And that was just the tip of the iceberg. I don’t think most of us realized how lucky we were, how great things were back then, and not just in Rock music. In virtually every genre of music: Rock, R&B, Country, Jazz, Folk, etc. There was an embarrassment of riches. We kind of took it for granted because we thought it would never end.

Blues decibilised into Blues Rock... at its very finest. You showed great appreciation for the power of this visceral rendezvous of exquisite voice with perfect guitar. Many- all- of their canon can be seen that way. But it's always the way they grab hold of your emotions for the ride. Magical. Hey, man- I"m a loyal sub of you, and I'm too old to write out your full name, so I've been calling you Pop....or just P? Like Robert Plant sings toward the end of Kashmir "Tell me! Tell me! Tell me! Led Zeppelin and Yes are both in first place : they are the 2 bands who directly inspired Rush. See on a interview of Geddy Lee (Rush bassist) " When we met (Rush members) we were young, we listened to LZ and we wanted to play like them, we didnt make it, so have to find our own way ".About bass "Chris Squire, my main inspiration" . Page and Squire played together with Alan White (Yes drummer) on a short-lived band name XYZ (means ex-Yes and Zeppelin XYZ) beginning of the 80's

My favorite Led Zeppelin song, everyone is absolutely shining laying down a 10/10 performance. Maybe Heartbreaker is a better guitar riff, or When the Levee Breaks may be a betrer beat, Stairway has the most beautiful lyrics, but no song brings all the pieces together better than In My Time of Dying.
