Volume of music CORRECTED - Kel's First Reaction to hearing Led Zeppelin's classic song "Since I've Been Lovin' You" from LZ3 1970.
BTW...THIS IS A REACTION and not a Led Zeppelin history lesson (for all of you trolls that feel the need to remind the world of your brilliance...er...ignorance).
Enjoy!

As amazing as the band was JPJ doesn't get the credit he deserves. Bonzo, Robert and Jimmy definitely were GOAT's on their instruments but the harmonic undertones that JPJ provided was the glue that held the greatness together. That church organ is otherworldly! Like Jimmy, JPJ was a studio musician that collected all those different styles of music going on at that time and brought that diversity to an already diverse sound!

For years, I thought he had played bass and the organ on two separate tracks. Only when I saw them live (on video) did I realise he played the bass on the pedals of the organ

They maybe “stole” some lyrics from Moby (although all blues songs have similar lyrics) but the melody is totally different and much more elaborate and the musicianship is 100 times better

One reviewer said that Jimmy Page plays the guitar like he invented it. I laughed at it because it may be the best description of Page's guitar work that I ever heard. And in all honesty, he did "invent" many things with it.

@@markbundy1694 exactly right - Jeff is a childhood friend of Jimmy's and who can say who really is "best?" Impossible. So many types of music, so many great players, there are hundreds of players on youtube right now can outplay Jimmy, Jeff, Eric, AND me... ANYWAY, It's difficult to see/know/hear/ find anyone that can do all the things ( Compose/write/play/produce/PERFORM LIVE) that Mr. Jimmy Page can do. Best Guitarist, nah, however, I repeat, there's a lot more than playing notes on a guitar that goes into being a great guitarist. Personally, I could listen to other players all day over the JIMMA; Ronnie Earl, David Grissom, CoCo Montoya, The music of DAVE ALVIN, ETC. BUT, Give my favorite all around musician/MVP/ to J. Page.

As a Brit born inconveniently too late, I had to discover Zeppelin via the Remasters package at the start of the 1990s and it almost seemed like a time tunnel digging under the whole 1980s back to something raw and somehow more substantial. And this is one of the tracks that cements that impression. I could look out at dull suburban rooftops and iron grey skies in blighty and it fit as well as anywhere it might fit in the US - where the sound is actually more native. And that's an interesting fact, because it shouldn't. Also, the lyrical interpretation almost exactly mirrors what my brother went through following my discovery of this song.

I got to meet and lend Pagey a "stick", cigarette, way back in 1966. He was playing with the Yardbirds with Jeff Beck on a midwest America tour and ended up at my home town of LaPorte ,Indiana at the local National Guard Armory building. I was about 16 and we paid $1.50 to get a hand stampon entry and e stood just 10 feet from the Yardbirds who were set up on the floor and low tables. When they took a break, my buddies and I went outside for a smoke. A few minutes later ,here came Jimmy Page ,and he asked me for a stick ,which I gave him and lit his cigarette. His manager thenwas Peter Grant ,later of LedZep, and he didn't want Jimmy smoking so Jimmy had to bum cigs where ever he played. We chatted for a few minutes and he then went back in to do another set.Jeff Beck was there but a kind of a loner type. JImmy was like one of us guys and talkative.Yes, I have had a great life. Peace.

This amazing song is even more amazing, live at MSG (1973). I’ve loved LZ for about 50 years, absolutely love their instrumentals in all their songs, but nobody could sing like Plant. Plant today still sings better then the majority old & new, sad though his vocals aren’t this beautiful anymore. The four of them will always be the GODS of music.

Thank you for bowing down to the Gods of Rock N Roll. Keith Moon from the WHO tried to get the gig and he was told they did not want some one already big and he was pissed and told them this band will fly like a led zepplin and the band thought that was cool and that is how they got the name for the band. Check it out if you do not believe me. I saw it on a Zep interview.Sounds like you got better enfo than I had. Thank you for the corrections. I lived with someone that is so this song. She reminded me of my HS sweetheart. I discovered Zeppelin on July 4, 1979 as it was the #1 song in LA’s K-EARTH 101 annual “Firecracker 300”, the greatest songs in rock and roll. I started HS that September. Sometime in 1980-82, my HS had boys week and they showed “The Song Remains the Same” to all the boys in the auditorium. My GF was into pop-disco top 40 and not into Zeppelin. My GF snuck into the auditorium for a couple of minutes before getting kicked out. She described what she saw and it was this song. This woman’s slow acceptance of the song beginning with “unsure” gestures into flat out acceptance she heard greatness is exactly what my old GF was like. It’s a slow yet immediate emergence of emotional investment which then leaves you exhausted yet exhilarated.

17:41 I think it was spontaneous but I think Robert was leading the band for a moment. I think it’s about playing the chord progression one more time before ending it. It’s like at the end of In My Time of Dying, “take me home”. In that context it could be about Heaven or about going back to the top of the song one more time before ending the song (probably both.)
