Perhaps Led Zeppelin's most underrated song. A real hidden gem!
@jkovert
@jkovert 5 жыл бұрын
I don't understand why people always say this. TYG has always been regarded as oner of LZ's best. It's on regular rotation at classic rock stations. Underrated by whom?
@PongGod
@PongGod 5 жыл бұрын
@@jkovert I honestly can't remember the last time I ever heard it played on a classic rock station. It doesn't get a fraction of the airplay of "Stairway to Heaven", "Dazed and Confused", "Black Dog", nor probably a half a dozen other Zeppelin songs. So that's probably why people always say this.
@jkovert

@@PongGod It was always in rotation. Not a hidden gem at all. Not underrated.

@@jkovert Whether something is underrated or not is a completely subjective statement. If you don't think it's underrated, fine, but you even admitted yourself that many people think it is.

I grew up with Led Zeppelin playing in our house. My dad was a drummer, a guitar player, piano and singer. I play the drums, my brother plays the guitar and he's the best musician out of us, my sister plays bass. I know all the words and how to drum most of the songs she's hearing for the first time and it's fun to watch her fall in love with Zep! I did at an early age. They're timeless. Led Zeppelin is just one of those music groups that can't be replicated. Many can play their songs fair enough, but never quite do it like them. Jason Bonham can, but he grew up learning music from his dad John Bonham and it's their DNA. But most of us can't, That's why they're timeless.

I found myself tearing up in the during middle of the song. Musicians and those that truly feel music will understand. If I tried to analyze my reaction, I would say it was a combo between being moved by the music and seeing a younger gen person that gets it as well. One of the greatest song transitions ever appears between 5:08 and 5:52. What the hell is that dissonant cord that Jimmy plays between 5:08 and 5:52? What ever it is, it's awesome.

If I'm thinking of the chord you're referring to, played with a single upstroke at the end of each line in the middle eight, I would describe it as D6addE (no 3rd). Guitar is tuned to drop D and you simply fret the G string at the 2nd; all the other strings are played open. At least that's what I'm hearing 😀

considering how he lived during the zeppelin years, i don't blame her for giving him an ultimatum. random hookups have always been part of the rock & roll lifestyle. i wouldn't want my S/O coming home smelling like a bunch of other people that she had casual sex with.

@@carcarjinks1430 I think for him it was more about pursuing his passion for the music than it was wanting to hook up. He didn't want to have regrets about putting his career on a shelf. My understanding from what I've read is that she wanted a more traditional lifestyle than being worried about him hooking up....he wasn't ready to settle into a compromised life.

CARCAR: Plant was married to the same woman from 68-83...Zep was actually notoriously boring on the road, except Bohnam...More importantly, Plant and his wife lost their 5 year old son, Karac, to a stomach virus that took only a couple of hours to kill him in 1977...Led Zep was on tour which was cut short as a result...perhaps you ought to do a little research and examine the evidence before you hand down the judgment...Plant was a family man...The LED Zep song All My Love by Plant and JPJ is a tribute to Karac...as far what you 'heard' about the song's inspiration, Plant tells it himself. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Years_Gone#Recording_and_production

Robert Plant said that he wrote this song about a girl he knew back in high school. She got married and settled into a conventional life as a housewife, while Robert became a rock god. My friend as far as the background when Led Zeppelin recorded most of their albums they went into seclusion in the cottage that was called Headley Grange and Whale.ms. It was built in the late 1500s how to say Opera House but today it is sort of like a hotel. Led Zeppelin went there to record because the different areas of the building created different sounds.

It's about someone he hasn't seen for 10 years - an ex girlfriend who wanted him to choose between her and his music. When he sees her face again it's in a dream and it takes him by surprise. Maybe the bit about never leaving her is because she will always stay in his head.

my favorite zeppelin song, I think Ten Years Gone is their best song. From the guitar solo to the "do you ever really want somebody....." is probably my favorite 90 seconds in music. This is the only song that has made me cry. The hard rocking stuff got me into zeppelin but things like ten years gone maintained my interest. Zeppelin is the GOAT because of their diversity

You go girl. I am in the throes of re discovering Zepp for the 4th or 5th time, but this time I have made a final decision that this is indeed the best band that has ever played music.

One of all time favorite songs. Indeed my favorite LZ song. Lotta soul. Lotta blues. Lotta rock. It's a perfect song.
