George Harrison and Jimmy Page were friends and the story goes that George said he really enjoys Led Zeppelin's music, but added it's a shame they did not write ballads. Jimmy wrote this song with the first two chords from George's "Something" as a respectful nod to George...good stuff

Disagree. Modern digital is just as fantastic (you are hearing this KZbin vinyl reproduction in Digital, BTW). What makes or doesnt make a great-sounding music reproduction, whether analog or digital - both good, is the recording/engineering/equalization quality of the original source. And the condition/preservation of that source (tape, usually).

@@CuttoothsRoom Hi 👋, I was chatting to someone Canada last year , they own a high-end audio shop, I have some very interesting very very expensive Highfield equipment they do reviews on it, and there was somebody in a very large home that I think that he had built, somewhere in the US can’t member where, He reckons that he had spent somewhere close to $1 million, on his hi-fi equipment, Macintosh. Not sure whether I spelt that right. And two years ago, he had an extension put on to the side of his property and he reckons he’s got somewhere in excess of 50.000 vinyl records.. He buys peoples collections, About a year or so ago. There was somebody on KZbin that was showing his attic conversion., it looked very impressive, oak beams , was a understatement, Oak flooring, and I think what I can remember it got cedar cladding on top of the opens then obviously the roof section on top. This was a music room and a half, I have seen and I’ve heard and I’ve been involved with many years ago, lining out a room with sound proof deadening quilt, then 2 layers plaster board , floors, walls and ceiling, it is surprising, the effect that it has. My property is a very old moulin/ mill, dating back to 16/17 hundreds, the walls are about 3 Ft thick, I did think about converting my attic space at one point, at the moment, I’ve got a very bad storm damage from September October of last year, very large hailstones, I am still waiting for the insurance company to give me the go-ahead to sort it out as it is going to cost a very great deal of money. Partly because most of the roof is made up of diamond shaped asbestos tiles, please I’ve got to be removed by a specialist I’ve had a quote so far approaching €15,000. That is just to remove the tiles off the roof., I think it would make a very nice music room as it is quite large, approximately 7 m wide, 11 m, long six and a bit metres in height. I’ve been told that it might sound very hollow sound in so I might build a room within a room, money permitting, hopefully later this year or next year, another problem is time is not on my side, Anyway, going back to music, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, U2 , Metallica, and there is other music I listen to all the time even opera classical music. Zimmer, I have a Linn LP12, Which does not work at the moment , I was quoted €1600 for having it repaired, I’m hoping at some point, I might go back to UK, if I do so I will take it with me and see whether I can get it done cheaper over there , And I have a Nakamichi DR2 , NAD PREAMP & Power Amp, I hopping to buy a NAD 185w power amp at some point this year, Sorry for going on a bit, Great having a catch , Look forward to listening to your next upload, stay safe. PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN FRANCE.

This sounds SO MUCH better than the remastered "official" version. So much of the awful sound that people associate with "digital" music is the result of these tasteless remasterings. I'm listening to this with reasonable good headphones, a very good audio card, and a very fast (1+ G) network connection. This has, of course, gone through all the KZbin compression/expansion digital magic. If digital technology itself is as bad some detractors claim, then this should sound terrible. I can't know how awesome this sounds in your listening room. I CAN tell you that this sounds FABULOUS -- orders of magnitude better than the "official" version. Thank you so much for publishing this.

So I'm late to the party with Led Zeppelin, born 5 years too late lol, a bit too sheltered, although I did acquire and enjoy Physical Graffiti after I went off to college in '78 - but recently I have been doing a deep dive and listening to many many live performances on KZbin, kicked off with the incredibly powerful Celebration Day performance of Kashmir - but then... Holy Houses of the Holy Batman, their badass first tune?! Grandpa Jimmy Page looks so cool I can hardly stand it! Okay I'll stop all of my gushing. I am a junkie for this 1994 version I discovered only a few days ago, a chainsmoker who lights the next cigarette with the one they just finished - oh hell, I'm a Jimmy Page Evangelist! It's Oxygen for me & it has been for about 5 days now... I was only today capable of ripping myself away out of curiosity about how the original studio version / remastered version sounded - here's what they did with it about 25 years later... kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJanqp96bcmJbbc - a hilarious comment under the video, I spew-laughed: "@ 4:44 okay drummer, give us your best John Bonham! (then in bold type) Drummer proceeds to hit his drums, literally as hard as he can" (It was Mike Lee, may he RIP)

@AchillesWrath14 жыл бұрын
That's because when music went digital it compressed the songs. Vinyl is a copy of the way the song was actually recorded. With digital they lower or raise the lows and highs to make everything sound even, which is why it sounds flat to you.

people seem to love vinyl..when i was 16 and my ears were pristine i heard a band playing live in the mall, i followed the sound into the av department of jordan marsh and found the source a red compact disc spinning vertically

This song is not LZ's best. It is however, very special to me. Lots to reflect upon and all good. Thanks to the band...

Before I started playing them again a few years ago, I missed vinyl too. I'm just glad I held onto all my old records. Thanks for listening.

Probably my favorite Zep tune. Bonham really should have gone for broke in the bridge though. I mean it's solid, but I know what he could do.

Ramble On definitely drives harder and moves through the soft and hard parts better. but there's just something about Rain Song that calms my soul whenever I hear it. Thanks for listening and commenting.

Could you tell us a little about your audio equipment, turntable, amps, speakers? Love what I'm seeing and also reminds me when I had my collection and listened to the music and read the lyrics. The whole experience was so immersive then.
@CuttoothsRoom Жыл бұрын
Very true. Having/playing vinyl albums back then was a much more interactive experience. Just playing them start to finish and holding the covers and reading the lyrics was so immersive. Here's how I have my recording setup... TURNTABLES: MCS 6700 / Denon DL-103R cartridge (mainly used for 33 1/3 rpm) Technics SL-Q3 / AT440MLb cartridge (mainly used for 45 rpm) PHONO STAGE: Vincent PHO 8 AUDIO INTERFACE: Focusrite 6i6 Mk II Then usb into my computer to record. Listening is whole different setup of course but the amps/speakers don't play of part in the sound recording of the uploads.
