I too feel your pain friend. For I was born in 1987 so I never even got a chance. I'm just glad I found them at a very young age. Then around 10-11 my stepdad showed me the song remains the same on VHS 📼. It was The single handedly best show of all time from any band out there that I've actually seen in person live. Silver sun pick-ups is one band that surprised me. Saw them at the Greek theater and they played and sounded so f#@kin great live. But like many others just didn't sound as good live. Been to many shows but my favorite is still in my living room on Blu-ray. The song remains the same is a True Gem and I always tell people to see it.

Saw em 7 times between 73-77…unbelievable shows but still wish I had seen earlier but just wasn’t quite old enough to do so….anyway, there really isn’t any band ever that put on a show where the crowd was so captivated that there an eerie silence of open jaws until each song ended at which pint the audience simply when nuts…no one knew music could be so powerfully emotional…note, I’m not catorizing their music as it was so diverse, eclectic and multi culturally influenced it can’t just be called “rock” music…so far ahead of their time no has ever caught up to it…so it will go down like Bach..Mozart…and last forever…anyway, just keep searching and listening to it all cause there is no other band like this one…they are the GOAT

Have y'all heard the new rendition Jimmy did of this beautiful song? (Well, new to us anyway.) You're gunna LOVE it!! It's on his own You Tube channel, named: Jimmy Page The Rain Song was the 1st video he posted on it. And it was the ONLY video on the channels for a few weeks! Which was kinda fun! It's all instrumental, no vocals. And - YES - It IS AMAZING !!! I imagine that's how Jimmy's been hearing this song in his head all these years... Y'all go check it out!
@gardengatesopen
@gardengatesopen Жыл бұрын
@@gmez478 I too saw them at a very young age... As a young American teenager, I was lucky enough to see them in '79 at the Knebworth Festival in England. It's a long story of how that came about. The short story is it wasn't planned, and when we found out there was going to be a concert, (THIS concert!!!) my younger brother & I begged our parents like we had never begged before!! We were on a family vacation over there when the 2 festival concerts were announced. Funny how the announcement was only 2 weeks in advance! My brother and I were so young that we, of coarse, had to get permission from our parents to go to this all day festival, in a foreign country, to travel far away without any adult supervision, over several different forms of transportation. We had to take a subway (the underground, we started from London), the subway took us to a train station, the train traveled to a tiny country town where we boarded a bus, the bus dropped us at a country lane where we walked with thousands of other kids of all ages for a very long trek to our final destination: a very large wheat field with the tallest stage I had ever seen! It was about 20 feet high. Anyway, my mother was insisting she go with us! But of coarse, I had to tell my mother that would NOT be a good idea, and I told her she would've had a terrible time, etc. I just couldn't imagine watching Led Zeppelin with my mother standing right beside me! Well, whatever I said, it worked! And my brother and I were off on literally, an adventure of lifetime😢!! It's one I'll never forget! And luckily, they were recording a movie of it, so I can now watch that footage & it takes me RIGHT BACK to those very extraordinary moments that I was in the presence of Rock Gods. Truly, I could feel their energy from 20 feet away. It sounds corny, I know! They just had this vibe, it was surreal. Charisma is not a strong enough word to describe their "presence" but that's what they had, in spades! I saw a LOT of concerts back then during that Golden Age of concerts, but THAT ONE concert, THIS BAND, is one I've carried with me through my entire life. This band put on a concert that was NOT forgettable! You say seeing them changed your whole outlook. I do believe I know what you mean! The concert I saw was different from any other band, just because it was THEM. Saying they were magical up on that stage sounds so clichè, but that really is what they were. Magical! The band has looked back on that concert and said "...they weren't tight, they weren't ready to play for an audience after such a long hiatus..." blah, blah, blah... I'm telling you that those things didn't matter to us! The energy of all us kids out there in that trampled field was electric with anticipation, and just plain excitement! And when they finally did appear!! Talk about a VIBE, well !! THE Band had THE VIBE!! They were MAGNIFICENT!!! The entire experience was MAGNIFICENT!!! I'm still, to this day, so very grateful to my parents for letting is go to that festival! BEST parenting decision they EVER made!! Of coarse, the times were different back then. The dangers weren't as high risk like it is these days. Or at least, we weren't aware of them. I would never be able to let my own kids travel alone like that these days... At any rate, Zeppelin did NOT disappoint at that concert!! In my eyes- they could do NO WRONG! I easily forgave them any squeaks, or missed note! I wasn't there for perfection. I was there just to experience THEM! My brother and I found a good spot about 20 feet away from the stage. We HAD to be that far away from the stage just to see the people up there ON the stage!! I remember wondering if we were going to be too far away from them (Zep) to get the full affect. I wanted to be close enough to them to feel like I was in the same room with them. Not in a creepy, obsessive way, but just in the way where you sit around jamming with people. Even though I was young, I had already been to many concerts back home. And the closer you are to the artists, the mire apt you are to "share the music in the moment" with the band members. I wanted THAT with Zeppelin ! Not too much to ask for, eh?!! Well, I got it!! Even at 20 feet away, and even with them being 20 feet higher in elevation, I could still feel their energy!! No other band ever came close to how they felt as a group. I could go on and on all day about this concert, but this comment is already way too long! I really just wanted to agree with you about how weirdly wonderful one powerful band can be life changing to an audience member. They literally make up more than one thread in the tapestry of my life.

I saw them in 1977 - Day on the Green = Oakland, CA for two days. That was the last time they ever played in the US. Robert Plant's son died 3 days later. The rest of the tour was cancelled. I had tickets for the fall of 1980 in Wash DC. But Jon Bonham died. So the tour was cancelled and the band broke up.

Seriously! No one seems to notice the bass work John Paul Jones does with his feet while playing the keyboard on this and many more Led Zeppelin songs. On the studio version of Stairway to heaven he does the same thing although it's not very noticeable, but on this concert you can hear it much more...He is the most underrated member by many.

What stands out for me is Jimmy's idea of the guitar tuning. It's literally referred to as "Page tuning". It's Gsus4, D-G-C-G-C-D. Every guitarist should attempt this song, to see the beauty of it's structure.

Right about 1973 at MSG, was when the MIGHTY Led Zeppelin was at their peak. They remained truly great for 6 more years until Bonham's tragic passing, but '73 stands out ... I was 9 at the time. My older brother Les by 5 years loved Led Zepp along with Aerosmith, Alice Cooper and Boston... playing their records in his downstairs room with this big speakers blaring incredible song after song! With his black lights going and smoking that Meigs County Gold weed, he really had it all happenin'. Miss you, brother! Those days are forever timeless in my heart, the childhood of the sweet '70s. A more mellow, sweet time to be alive.

Such amazing talent, as an amateur musician myself at 55, I don’t understand how in the world these guys had this much talent, I mean it’s out of this world that they created these songs that continue to go on and on. As children grow into teenagers most of them will come across their music as I did and will be captivated by Led Zeppelin’s talent. It was actually my first cassette I purchased at 16 years old, the one that had the four symbols with an old man carrying a sack in front of an old stone house

For me, it’s easy to occasionally forget just how amazing LZ could be because it’s such common knowledge that you don’t really think about it that often. It’s also easy for me as a musician to tend to primarily think of them in terms of riffs, because barring Black Sabbath, there isn’t a single band that has 1/10th the amount of classic riffs they do. But they could be beautiful and complex just the same.
