The stars aligned when these 4 met each other. There will never be another Zeppelin. This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. I've tried over the years to get everyone I know to love Led Zeppelin, but they never dig deep enough to hear masterpieces like this. It's not all Whole Lotta Love and Stairway to Heaven. The Beatles and Led Zeppelin got along very well. As a matter a fact, George Harrison said to John Bonham "The problem with you guys, is you never do ballads”. This got back to Jimmy Page, and inspired him to write "The Rain Song". He used the same chord progression as the song "Something" in the intro to "The Rain Song" as a tribute to George Harrison.

It was Aug 1988. My Grandfather had passed, we were in the funeral line up to the cemetary. And i had Zep playin. This is what came on as i started the car. Oh my! How a song can ring the bells of the memorys one once cherished. Peace to all .

For sure. Songs - and certain aromas, like the smell of baking - always take me back in time. Back in 1987, I had to bring my beloved Weimaraner, Fritz, to the vet for the last time; at nearly 14, he was ready to cross the Rainbow Bridge. After leaving the vet, I started my car and the first song that came on was "The Ballad of Curtis Loew" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Even now, going on 38 years later, every time I hear that song I think of that day, saying my last goodbye to Fritz and barely able to see because of the tears in my eyes. (Actually, the lyrics of the song are very poignant anyway. It's my favorite Skynyrd song by far, even with the sad connotation.) Note that I'm not trying to compare having a dog put to sleep with the passing of your grandfather; I'm just talking about how memories can be triggered.

Anyone reading this comment knows the power of music and the majesty of this particular song. In February 2011, I came home just after my mother's funeral and decided to work out to shake myself out of the catatonic state I had been experiencing since her death. My iPod had well over 1000 songs on it, so I programmed it to play randomly as I hit the weights. What song played first? Led Zeppelin's 'The Rain Song.' I paused my exercising briefly to let this 'coincidence' sink in. Feeling as though mom was speaking to me from beyond the grave, I resumed my workout not even attempting to hide my tears. The next song to play was the Beatles' 'Here Comes the Sun.' I am not fabricating this story; it actually happened. She was telling me that into each life a little rain must fall but here comes the sun. As far as I know, my mom never heard either 'The Rain Song' or 'Here Comes the Sun' in her lifetime. She preferred Country music. She was using the best possible medium to tell her grieving son, who is passionate about music, that everything will be alright. One day, there will be no more rain, only the sun. RIP mom. I miss you dearly. Dan.

I dont have the words to express what this song did to me the 1st time i listened to it, all those years ago. Guess what. It still has the same effect. The magick is real. Let noone try to convince you otherwise. You'll experience it listening to this song, and very nearly EVERY OTHER song in these guys records. Fan for life. Thank you

You are a lucky man. Greatest rock band of all time. Start from the beginning and work your way along. Gems all along the way. Houses of the Holy is my personal favourite album. This song is from it but there are tons of great songs. The Battle of Evermore. The pinnacle.

The Rain Song - Lyrics: It is the springtime of my loving The second season I am to know You are the sunlight in my growing So little warmth I've felt before It isn't hard to feel me glowing I watched the fire that grew so low, oh It is the summer of my smiles Flee from me, keepers of the gloom Speak to me only with your eyes It is to you, I give this tune Ain't so hard to recognize, oh These things are clear to all from time to time, ooh Oh, oh Oh Talk, talk, talk, talk Hey, I felt the coldness of my winter I never thought it would ever go I cursed the gloom that set upon us, 'pon us, 'pon us But I know that I love you so Oh, but I know That I love you so These are the seasons of emotion And like the wind, they rise and fall This is the wonder of devotion I see the torch We all must hold This is the mystery of the quotient, quotient Upon us all, upon us all, a little rain must fall Just a little rain, oh, yeah Oh, ooh, yeah-yeah-yeah

In 1976 Led Zeppelin didn't tour but they released the movie The Song Remains the Same , so the movie theater on Wilshire and La Cienega put huge speakers in the back of the theater and had a huge great sound system and it was the next best thing to seeing them live . The theater was filled with pot smoke . Good times !
