My gap adjustment wheel has started malfunctioning. When I move the release bar, the thickness gap also goes out of adjustment. Oiling doesn't help. I think I need to disassemble the relevant parts and oil more thoroughly. Your recent addition of springs on the angle-adjustment wheel was a good move.

From what I can read out of your message, overall the mechanism seems to be stiff. Try to loosen and reattach without much pressure, but without play. It is also possible that the horizontal spring has lost its tension. Both together would lead to the effect that you describe. Best regards, Constantin Schmedt
