Thanks for this in depth review. IS there anyway to calculate what the PAR would be at 75% on the driver? For example if it is 1000 at 100% at one point is it about 750 at 75%? Is that a reasonable way to think about it? Thanks.

Nice work on the new website, and depth of your analytics. I agree that more diodes beats hot spot designs all the time with approximately equivalent ppfd mappings.

Well done LED gardener, great summary: basically if money is no object, and you are an efficiency nut who wants the absolute best then Scorpion Diablo hands down... Best value light HLG 600... And Scorpion Rspec for best spread/uniformity/price... HLG 650R if you are running Co2 and want to max your yields, but cannot afford Scorpion Diablo. Whichever way you go, you won't go wrong with HLG LOL! Great info as always, love the new website, fantastic and looking forward to seeing how other manufacturers lights stack up :)) Keep up the excellent work, you are at the cutting edge, and God Bless you, Brother :))

World be nice if you included lux readings at various heights. Growers can get inexpensive lux meters and compare it to your par output for a given light

Great video it would be extremely useful information to include the PPFD readings for each of these lights at the various clicks HLG lights have it would really help growers dial in their lights at various stages of growth (seedling/clones/veg and bloom) I see a lot of people with these lights asking other owners how many clicks they have it set on at various stages of growth

The problem with this is that the detentes on the potentiometers can differ by quite a bit. I tested this on the 600Rspec I have, and the "halfway" click on the potentiometer was actually 80% of full power. The number of detentes also seem to differ on each pot as well. The 650R has several of them while the 600 only has one. The best way is to use a kill-a-watt meter and see how much power you're drawing at whatever position you are on the pot, compare that to how much power it draws when it's cranked up, and then use this to figure out roughly what your PPFD will be. When I measured 50% power draw on my kill-a-watt, the PPFD readings were damn near 50% of those taken at max (they were a little higher). It scales pretty reliably.

@@LEDGardener You can just produce your own pulse width modulation signal with an arduino or raspberry pi or whatever. Then you know exactly what percentage it is.

Oh absolutely - I’ve even got a video on doing exactly that, but he’s talking about the built-in pot which the vast majority will use.

I'm still trying to figure out the main difference between a Diablo and a Diablo R-Spec what is the difference with an R-Spec hlg light? Besides the $300 difference
@LEDGardener3 жыл бұрын
It’s either Diablo or Rspec. Diablo uses QB648 boards with 648 white diodes per board plus 18 deep reds. Rspec boards are 288 white diodes per board plus the deep reds.

I'm building out my new grow room as we speak and now I'm severely torn about which light to get. My current plan has me going with six of the Scorpion Diablos, but I don't know now after hearing your final comments about how you would maybe choose one of the lights with 4 boards instead of 6 if you were growing in a large room instead of a tent. I wish I didn't watch this video now 😅 great video tho, you don't know how long I've been waiting to find someone make a comparison video of these HLG lights.
@LEDGardener3 жыл бұрын
Nice. I base this mostly on a conversation I had with HLG quite awhile back where they suggested it might be the case, but they were likely meaning on a larger scale. That being said, it looks like grandmasterlevel is doing a massive build with Scorpion Diablos in one of his rooms and it looks insane. Check out the video he posted most recently.
@theangelspenthouse94153 жыл бұрын
Please don't get the diablos!!!! Get the Scorpion rspec!!! The coverage area is much bigger and the light distribution if far more evenly distributed. I have the scorpion rspec and I'm running it at 32 inches at 100% . That will give you an idea of the power. I even had to add co2 to get the full benefits of this light. Get the scorpion rspec. You will need less lights and they will last longer. Can't say enough good about the scorpion rspec. Best light I've ever had by 100 miles.
