Ledisi: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

Nov. 21, 2017 | Suraya Mohamed --Singer and songwriter Ledisi is a veteran R&B queen, which she immediately affirmed at the Tiny Desk with her powerful opening tune "Let Love Rule." It's the title song of her latest album, and a dazzling display of vocal range and technique. And yet, it hardly showcases the full scope of her artistic expertise. Classically trained, Ledisi is also celebrated as a jazz artist, which she clearly demonstrated when she broke out into a effortless scat outro on her second song, "I Blame You."
With nine Grammy nominations and an impressive discography, it's easy to be awed by her musical accomplishments. But in person, what's just as impressive as her exquisite artistry is her radiant spirit of contentment and grace. You can see it when Terrell, her makeup artist, goes behind the desk between songs to powder her face. (It was an exceptionally hot day.) Ledisi responded to the interruptions not like a diva, but with humor, humility and gratitude.
The lyrics to the third song, "Add To Me," speak to having self-confidence and ensuring self-care in any relationship: "I've been in a spiritual space / So when it's getting hard, don't break / Show me you're a winner, I don't need a quitter / How you gon' add to me?" Ledisi finishes the set with a tribute to Prince and even more positive messaging. "High" is about being high on life - a reminder that no matter what chaos and circumstances exist, we should all find one good thing to love every day.

Most likely whites who doesn't like Michelle Obama because Michele said her favorite singer is Ledisi. Also for the fact that Ledisi is still hardcore R&B, and can truly sing. After 2010 whites plotted and planned to kill R&B music as we know it and rebrand it in the form of this new junk that we are listening to today where white artists like Justin Timberlake and Beier and these others that I can't name, try to give us their stolen imitation of r&b pop. If you look at most of Ledisi videos on KZbin you will see how high the thumbs down numbers are, it's no one other than whites who are hating on the last of the real black soulful vocals and musical instruments of true R&B. These crackkas are raising the number of dislikes to discourage young black people's from listening to Ledisi, or feel that it's not trending.

Ledisi just woke up my voice. I recently lost my daughter and lost reason to believe that I can do things better. I have kept quiet for the longest two years, fearing that I may never be able to strip the emotion from voice. She gives me reason to open up once more. Thank you Ledisi. I heal every time I hear your high cords, and subtle flow. I never did the singing for recognition but for love. She is the love I live for. My King and I are recovering, daily. Peace be upon all those who seek healing from melody. It's a gift we ought to treasure in your people.

First and foremost sorry for y’all lost ❤️❤️❤️ real talk secondly use your gift God gave you its healing to you the most and you never know who you might touch through it I also sing and I just recently started recording again in 2020 after not doing anything for about 7 years basically concentrating on someone else and you already know how it played out! I had to find myself again I just started writing and those words came abundantly and I figured it was my healing process 💯 and it was and now the words are coming rapidly lol anyway I’m going to follow and your journey
