Compatible with ballasts? Need to bypass ballast and capacitor or are your bulbs compatible with ballasts? Thanks.
@LedLightExpert5 жыл бұрын
Ballast must be bypassed. No point in keeping the ballast in there and wasting the extra power which is the top reason for switching to LEDs. Ballast compatible LED products are prone to issues like flicker and early failure and when that ballast fails you will either need to replace the ballast or switch to a ballast bypass corn bulb then. Why not just get the ballast our of there in the first place and save the cost and hassle down the line.

I watched some videos about corn corb lights and bought one from amazon 500 watt with the understanding I could put it in my standard ceramic fixture one I use a 300 watt incandescent bulb in as I have 13 ft ceilings in my garage. It does not fit and needs a larger female socket . Is it possible to get such a thing? thanks

You should have called us! 800-674-9420. Our experts would have avoided this. One of the first things we ask is whether you have a E26 household or E39 large base. We carry bulbs for both. We also would have asked about actual wattage not equivalent. That bulb is not 500 watts of led, but someone's made up equivalent. Also what kelvin color you wanted. To fix this issue you should return that and call us. You can user a conversion like this one we stock here, (but if the bulb is not right you wasted money on these). www.ledlightexpert.com/E39-to-E26-Socket-Adapter--6-Pack--Use-Any-E26-Standard-Base-Bulb-in-an-E39-Large-Mogul-Base-Socket_p_1634.html

Do you you carry anything in an LED that I can just screw in to a standard socket? Also is there a led that bright that is dimmable with a dimmer switch. Good video!Thanks

We have up to 54 watts of LED in a standard E26 base. You can also buy an an adapter to use an E39 bulb in an E26 socket, just make sure it all fits. Noe of the bulbs are diimmable, sorry about that.

You have to take the ballast out of the circuit of a metal-halide fixture or you'll smoke your new corn bulb! Videos here on KZbin show you how to do it IF you're CAPABLE. If not, an electrician will have to dewire the ballast transformer out of the circuit. Surprised you werent advised that first!🤔

I want to convert some dusk to dawn barn lights to Led. They say I don't need to take out the ballast..... Is it better if I take out the ballast since it is no larger necessary?
@LedLightExpert2 жыл бұрын
We always recommend removing or bypassing the ballast when converting to LED if the old fixture uses a ballast. Even if the LED bulb is ballast compatible, it's going to shorten the life on the LED bulb, possible a very early failure. That ballast is also going to waste power and fail long before a good LED bulb should fail, so you'll be replacing/bypassing/removing the ballast later if you leave it in there. Save yourself the time, money and maintenance down the line and get that ballast out of the way when you make the switch to LED.

Do you have any that work with a ballast?
@LedLightExpert3 жыл бұрын
No, you want to get rid of the ballast once and for all, otherwise you put a 20 year LED into a fixture that needs a new ballast every 7 years. Ballast compatible also adds more piece to the LED driver that increase failure rate. Not worth it. Get rid of that ballast once and for all. its usually easier than you think, they do fail and so has to be serviceable, so usually a compartment you can get to. I don't know of any 1000w LED bulbs, a 1000w LED fixture would not be something typically used in a home/yard, that is stadium lighting output. I am guessing you mean an equivalent to an older technology 1000w bulb. Without knowing the product you are using, what I can tell you is it could be a heat issue, wiring issue or a power issue, impossible to narrow down without more info. If this was a bulb purchased from us, feel free to contact us so our tech support team can help you figure out what is going on. If purchased elsewhere, I recommend contacting the manufacturer/seller of the product you have and hope they have proper tech support. There is a lot of cheap LED products out there with little to zero tech support so you could be on your own. If you can't get it figured out and just need to replace it, feel free to give us a call and we will help you find a proper product for your needs and make sure you have no trouble with your install.

It is much larger and wanting to know if a conversion to a standard size is available. It's killing me not to see it work. On the side is says( SATCO 59673. 45 w LED /4000k EX 39 100-277VAC 50/60HZ) Anything you can tell me what i need to do to see this beast in action would be wonderful and how best to convert it to a regular home bulb diameter.
@LedLightExpert3 жыл бұрын
There are socket size converters available, we have some here: www.ledlightexpert.com/E26-to-E39-Socket-Adapter--6-Pack--Use-Any-E39-Large-Mogul-Base-Bulb-in-a-Standard-E26-Household-Socket_p_1611.html. EX39 is a little more rare socket style compared with the much more common E39. You may have trouble finding a converter for an EX39 socket and I would guess you are trying to convert to E26 which is the standard size you see in bulbs used in residential lighting. Best to check online marketplaces or electrical suppliers, but that one will be hard to find. You may be better off getting a bulb with the correct socket to begin with.

Watts? Lumens? I've got a 150W HPS that's rated at 15,000 lumens when new. To achieve the same light output shouldn't I be looking at an LED bulb with the same lumen output?
@LedLightExpert4 жыл бұрын
good question! No, that 15K number on the box only lasts 5 minutes. Those lights lose up to 70% of their light over their life. Most find that a 7000 lumen bulb is brighter than it towards the end of its life. Go up to an 80w at 10000 lumens if you want more middle of its life. Hard to fit too big of a bulb in there so make sure you measure and bypass that ballast. CAUTION when installing these corn lights in your garage over a vehicle. I installed my corn light in my garage a few years ago when I owned an older white vehicle, everything was fine, then recently when I bought a brand new dark burgundy colored car I could not figure out where tiny drops of "white varnish like specks " that were dripping down on my car were coming from. Many days I would turn on my other regular bulb ceiling light when going into the garage and many days I would turn on the corn light, not realizing at first that the use of the corn light coincided with seeing little white specs on my car. One day it dawned on me that it might be the corn light so I only used the regular bulb light with no white specs on my new car. I then goggled info on these corn lights and found out that many use a fluid in them to keep the LEDs cool , and sometimes they will leak the fluid out.
@LedLightExpert3 жыл бұрын
This is the difference betweent buying a commercial quality bulb versus the countless cheap and poorly constructed bulbs available on the market. Our LED corn bulbs from Rugged Grade are completely air cooled on all newer series bulbs and some of the older or higher wattage bulbs (150 watt and up) have fans in the bulb to help manage heat, no fluids in the bulb that could leak out. Unfortunately there is a lot of cheap junk out there with poor design that end up failing far earlier than they should or you find problems like a bulb leaking. Our bulbs are rigorously tested before the first bulb even ships and we back them with a 5 year warranty along with independent UL and DLC certifications for safety and performance.

When we get to this size we typically recommend replacing the fixture or using a retrofit kit. These both have a full size driver in them and will hold up over time. The bulbs above 200 watts are asking a lot of that small internal driver. We offer a 240 watt retrofit kit, SKU 38-134 that works in most fixtures and uses a full size Meanwell driver. Keeps the fixtures, but lets you go LED. Otherwise we carry lots of fixtures in the 240-300 watt range. Give us a call at 800-674-9420 and we can help you find the correct one. unfortunately at that size its best to change the whole fixture. Use a 500 watt LED stadium light for uses about 30ft or a 450-600 watt area light with a T3 pattern for lower installs. these are great lights for growing however NO ONE< NO ONE, makes a reflector housing for them
@LedLightExpert2 жыл бұрын
Yes, for growing we recommend fixtures. These are good enough LEDs to grow, but our fixtures are larger spectrum and we can run them with more power since the cooling is better. If you do need a reflector you can search ebay for 'metal halide high bay fixture'. You will need to bypass the ballast if you use their socket, or just take the reflector. Often you can find some in non working condition fairly cheap. Good luck, i think you'll find something that does not make you regret the bulb. Next time just go with one of our grow light fixtures; www.ledlightexpert.com/LED-Grow-Lights_c_86.html
@LedLightExpert2 жыл бұрын
These are most commonly used for retrofitting old fixtures in commercial applications, though they are definitely used in grow applications. There are countless wall packs, high bay lights, parking lot fixtures and more that corn bulbs work and fit perfectly in. A high bay fixture is likely the closest option for a grow light application if you are looking for something with a reflector, so you would likely need to search for metal halide or HPS high bay fixtures and retrofit them for the LED corn bulbs. I would say that typically when we have seen growers use these bulbs as opposed to LED grow lights designed from the ground up as grow lights, its usually without a reflector and just screwed into a socket with 360 degrees of light. Grow lights use LEDs with specific spectrums or full spectrum LEDs designed for growth and yield unlike a commercial LED corn bulb, but corn bulbs are often used as a budget alternative or for supplemental lighting.
