Listening to this on headphones, in a pitch dark room, while my husband sleeps beside me and shadows dance in the ceiling from the light outside peeking through the blinds. Amazing experience.

@@pat2430 There were a few that I'm sure they knew about and those people received the song writing credit as well as royalties. But considering they were pretty much the originators of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal as we know it today and you have to consider the volume of songs they put out AND that many bands tried to imitate THEIR sound, I hardly think it fair to say they "Just ripped off other artists". That is a pretty general statement to be making. Despite everything, one must give credit where credit is due and they certainly earned it and then some.

There's absolutely never been anybody like him. Ian Pace is the runner up but still, simply absolutely nobody has Bonham's magic. So many people thinks it's his power, which a big part of it, but he's just so fluent in every way. He's not a rock drummer. he grew up mastering big band, waltz and shuffling so he has that down pat. Then he fell in love with soul, R&B, motown and funk. That's what people just don't get. Bonham is a super sonic funk daddy. He took all of the traditional stuff, shoved in James Brown style 4 times over, and put his own brand ontop of any way he wanted to do it. That's what people just don't get, he's not just a rock drummer, he's John Bonham, the drummer with the most heart and feel that is still unmatched today.

It's curious that "How Many More Times" was supplanted by "Whole Lotta Love" in Zep's concert setlists after the latter was released. The reason had to be that time didn't allow for both, and "Whole Lotta Love" quickly morphed into the "Let That Boy Boogie" medley that became a standard for a few years. They did roll "How Many More Times" back out for the early part of the 1975 tour to replace "Dazed And Confused" when the latter was dropped because Jimmy Page was playing with a broken finger. But what a rocker! Peace.

Admittedly I don’t think I appreciated this one as much back in the day but I was young and didn’t know any better, now one of my faves - but that’s Zeppelin right, you can still hear something new over so much time. One of my faves for sure, sooo heavy. And I’d like to say LZ1 might still be their best

I think this was the song that got me interested in the way JPJ played. Then came Ramble On and it was decided: I was addicted to his playing and, of course, Led Zeppelin. And to think that was 51 years ago. Now I know I'm addicted, I still love Led Zeppelin's music like it was the first time I heard it!!!

"How Many More Times", ends with the same riffs as it begins with. Yet, after the opening riffs, etc., there are several different harmony & and melody riffs, etc., until the closing riffs... A lot of power, hypnotics, heavy metal, stoner (420) rock. There is more change-ups in this track, then "Stairway to heaven" I'm a senior rocker who served six years in the Santa Monica Unified school Districts Concert Orchestra, so I appreciate all manner of music, I critique it, and for a few years when I was a teen, I performed with the combined Concert Orchestra in front of ten thousand fans at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. Listening to rock albums at home or performing Bach...they both are equally a Rush!

Yes, they go from "No Place to Go" (Howlin' Wolf 1954) to "Beck's Bolero" (Jeff Beck 1966) to "Kisses Sweeter than Wine" (Jimmie Rodgers 1957) to "Steal Away" which Plant had sung on (Alexis Korner 1968) to "the Hunter" (Albert King 1967).

I remember my brother getting this for Christmas in 69 and he went and picked it out before we all got up to open presents and played the entire album low enough but everybody could hear it. We were a family of 10 and I was 9 years old and was blown away by commando drums and Page's guitar works, and then bring in that brilliant voice of Plant. And on the intro to Your time is Gonna Come is epic from Jonesy. Black Mountain Side - WHEW and then seeing the album cover the next morning, was already indoctrinated for the next generation of ROCK.

Can I tell you a true story? About how my mother (RIP) earned my never-ending musical respect? In 1969 I was 14 and I bought LZ2 and I was playing it in our living room. My mother (born in 1923) came into the room and said (something to the effect of) "That's the theme song from Peter Gunn." I said "No, this is Led Zeppelin." She said, "It's the theme song from Peter Gunn". She was right. Listen to the theme song from Peter Gunn. Mom's usually know what they're talking about. Mine did. Never doubted her again. About anything :-)
