Lee Anderson is probably the dimmest MP left in parliament. His latest stunt has seen him call for the end of the TV licence fee. But the licence fee funds the transmission of all freeview channels, including GB News who pay him £100k a year. Another unintentionally dumb move from Anderson here.

Most watch streaming these days so don't actually need to pay it, as it's effectively become just a tax on mainstream news and live sport. If you don't watch Iplayer, live sport or mainstream news broadcasts you can disconnect your aerial and don't need to pay.

But freeview is not founded from the tv license. The infrastructure is operated by Arqiva and each broadcaster pays them. The BBC is one of the largest broadcasters and is paying its share, but no money goes directly to freeview and eliminating the TV license would not change much.
