This was very helpful. I used the same procedure to replace a broken extractor spring on a Rifle #4 bolt head. I didn't need the forceps, just a pair of needle-nose pliers to press the spring out of the way until I got the extractor started. I cleaned and lightly oiled the parts before trying to put in the new spring and extractor. To get the new spring in all the way, I had to insert a small screw driver and tab it with a hammer. Thanks for putting this together.

THANK YOU. I pulled the extractor to check headspace and do a cleaning, & I was struggling to get it back in under the spring. Your video was very helpful!

Thanks works for me, the spring looks like it came from a Flint Lock Frizzen spring. That spring design has been around for a very long time

This was very helpful, I did however find it easier to pull out the extractor claw using a needle nose pliers, removing the spring the is a hole in the bolt head which you can push the spring down and allowing you to grab and pull it out with a pliers, you do however need to grow a 3rd hand. please note that the extractor claw for 303 and 308 are slightly different in size.

In a pinch, needle nose pliers work great as well

I wish I had seen this before I snapped the spring trying to reinsert it with a screwdriver after cleaning it. 😜. I have some forceps and doh! I could’ve used them. Thanks for doing this video!

Couldn't for the life of me to get the spring to snap into place from the front. Ended up bolting the extractor into place first and then slid the spring in from the rear through the squarish access hole in the back and on top of extractor rear. Then just compressed the nubby top part of spring and got it starting into the bolt head and then I lightly tapped the very rear of the spring until it slid into the nub/hole final resting place. I dare say it was easier than you're method because there was no wrenching of the spring to get the extractor in place.

Thanks for your comment and im glad it helped you out!! You must put the spring in first cause there is no way to compress the spring enough or get it seated properly if you put the extractor in first. I know there are a couple different ways to do it which i tried, but i couldn't get it in with those ways. This way i found to be the easiest and quickest way to install one. I hope that answers your question

yes when I bought the gun it had excessive head space and I sent the gun to a Enfield specialist and he put this head on to help tighten things up

I disassembled my bolt head on my No 4 Mk1 and that little space that the extractor and spring fit into is only about half the size of the space on this bolt head so using forceps to squeeze the spring and then insert the extractor claw is not an option as there simply isnt enough room. Any other ideas?

Sarcoinc.com has enfield parts. Just do a google search and you'll find one. Maybe ebay as well
