Lee is so humble and passive I'm surprised he took the bodybuilder route as his career. The man is Christian, you would think becoming a pastor from young with the wife and kids. He makes bodybuilders look good and intelligent.

Lee was the name I heard as a child playing with dad's weights, he was a bad mother lover, and I really jumped in during the ronnie and jay era after losing my brother, and man I was doing some crazy shit and I got massive, steroids not included, close to 20 years since then, and I'm jumping back in for more, not as easy as it used to be but I've already unleashed the beast, your right mr Haney, we are a rare and slightly insane breed

Genetics. Like many he started training for football. Someone sees your potential and "suggests". I've seen Lee Haney in person and like Arnold and Sergio he is a FREAK. Joe Weider, The Master Blaster, heard about him and the rest is history. He's probably made well over a million so because he's humble, stable he's still doing well. God Bless.

Not a single video exists of him throwing heavy weight around sloppily, or he fat and out of shape. He was everything right about weightlifting and bodybuilding and truthfully the sport died when he retired. It became entertainment and the healthy lifestyle and safe lifting dissapeared from TV and magazines.

@Henry Starr When I say "real man" I'm talking about what's on the inside. It's my opinion only and wasn't meant to identify him as an alpha or address his manhood. It was made out of respect for a guy who even after winning 8 Mr. Olympias and retiring undefeated had the grace to comment in a wise, informative, humble, way. As far as my taste goes it is more likeable and respectable. That we agree on.

lol. he had the genetics to train moderately and still make gains. Not everybody is built the same. he also never looked like ronnie so you can't compare them. some people have the genetics to put in mass with volume training and some respond to low rep heavy duty. there is no blueprint that works for everyone.

its basic physics 101. Ronnie lifted crazy heavy. however he used momentum. He even did touch and go style deadlifts to move some of those reps. Momentum takes some stress off the muscle and applies it to the skeletal system. The worse part is, the drugs made him stronger, but he was already strong before the drugs. So he was basically applying stress and load to his joints and back that he was never meant to lift anyway. The body couldnt handle it and eventually reached its limit. The mind is limitless unfortunately the body has limits.
@derekdeadlifts2986
@derekdeadlifts2986 4 жыл бұрын
AGREED with that. As a natural its nearly impossible to deadlift over 700 pounds. Hell if you reach 405,500 pounds that is a solid amount of weight as a natty.

Lee Haney is a class act!! That’s how an ex gladiator/Olympian is supposed to be, personable, able to intelligently convey his experiences and share his insights. Not talk smack about being gifted and not taking too much steroids and saying he only wished he had pushed even more heavier weights despite as a consequence of blowing out his hips and knees as a result. Coleman you send the wrong message to a generation who simply want it all no matter what the cost. For having that thinking you ain’t my guy. Genetics people! Not everyone is the same. Andrew Bull Stewart (multiple time National and World Champion powerlifter) and everyone I remember from the team in the late 80’s and early 90’s is doing fine and Bull lifted heavier than Ronnie. Bull is in his 60’s and still trains, so no, it’s not from bad form or lifting heavy. Lots of old strongmen are running around arm wrestling and having fun and they were lifting ridiculous weights too.

The answer is both Yes and No. When your body fat is about 3% and your doing 800lb deadlifts then of course Ronnie was training too hard. Even Dorian admitted the injuries he got was cause his body fat % was at contest shape and that he should have lifted lighter.

Ronnie Coleman was never 3% performing 800lbs deadlift in the gym YEAHHH BUDYYYY

@@messerschmittsreaver ok, he was over 5 weeks away from Mr. Olympia so I'm guessing his body fat % was below 10% but to lift 800lb deadlift for 2 reps that near the Mr. Olympia is training too hard.

Except his back problems are from as far a injury in college, and his hip problems are hereditary, not to do with training.

@@stefanroseEP3 Thats true..he did mention that too. There are many powerlifters who lift just as heavy as Ronnie and even heavier and they didnt have the amount of surgeries he had. So when people blame it on heavy weight as the reason..thats not entirely correct. Arnold and Franco lifted heavy..competed in powerlifting and yet they live/lived to an old age with no big time surgeries. People think Lee Haney lifted light..but he didnt. He routinely benched pressed over 400 lbs, squatting up to 400 lbs did military presses with over 225lb plus..and yet he is healthy and limber. Kevin Levrone lifted heavy too..and yet he didnt have all these massive surgeries. So with Ronnie..that is an isolated instance..not the norm. Now the only thing I would critique about Ronnie's training..and many pro bodybuilder's training..is the fact that they dont deload a lot of the time to give the CNS a break and let the tendons and ligaments get a break from the heavy weight or understand how to properly program training..as well as fatigue management. If they have achy joints they just wrap it up and keep pounding and pounding..thats not training smart. Plus doing excessive single joint isolation movements puts a lot of overloaded stress on that one joint. Which can lead to a lot of joint problems when one joint is taking so much load/stress compared to a compound movement that balances the stress/load over multiple joints. Me personally, im very big on taking a deload every 4th week.

@TheLusianPopa excellent extrapolation but i dont think his bf% ever went above 5%. Hes called a freak for a reason and didnt eat any bs. He always followed his diets. He did drink a 2l bottle of sprite everyday but thats not a huge deal.
