I met Lee at the LA show in ‘96. He generously took the time to help me with something. Totally cool guy. He trains the way you’re supposed to train your muscles to get the development you want. He fully feels the stretch and contraction in the muscles he intends to target while mitigating ancillary muscular engagement. You can see it in the video. This keeps the strain where it belongs (in the target muscles) and less so on the tendons, ligaments and joints - true isolation. The better you are at it, the less weight you need. Although, you shouldn’t think of going “light” and should always go as heavy as you can within the frame of proper technique, extreme weight is unnecessary and counter-productive. Krizo trains the same way. And yes, throwing dumbbells on the ground, excessive yelling, grunting/ noise, slamming and abusing equipment is all a HUGE pet peeve, breach of gym etiquette, a spiritual disturbance to other gym members, a poor example for others to follow and damages the equipment. When you carelessly slam dumbbells on the ground, it loosens them and will eventually damage them to the point of needing replacement.

NPC Bodybuilder it’s not that Arnold was overrated. It was just a different era. Everyone knows of course, if Arnold competed today he’d be in Classic Physique which is leagues away from heavyweight Bodybuilding now. But that’s the guys he is compared to because he won the same trophy they are feigning for. It’s a Jordan or LeBron argument. Lee has ridiculous arms though.

@@hunter24olemissfan Arnold may have one his first 3-4 Olympia's 'legitimately'. But I believe that once he became a movie star and a successful actor, he continued to win due to being Joe Weider's "Golden boy". He most certainly should not have won his final 2 Olympias, hence why I am saying he is overrated.

I don't think there was ever a bodybuilder that had genetic limitations, that managed to produce a damn complete package like Lee Priest. He had a very narrow bone structure, a long torso, and shorter legs. He was so smart in how he made sure that everything was there to create the illusion he was wider than he was able to be. Lats as wide as he could take them, but a real emphasis on delts and some of the best arms in bodybuilding, along with one of the smallest waists on the stage at that time, manufactured an impressive V taper. And his legs were just the right size to be impressive without creating an imbalance. I think the only area Priest really had a weakness he couldn't divert judges from was chest. And again, that had to do with the narrow bone structure. Yet it was very solid, just not able to get the fullness as the wider structured competitors that were often in the top three to five.

@@khinds357 what I always loved about Priest is that he actually wasn't very genetically gifted for bodybuilding. He was like Yates in that his natural genetics actually should have kept him out of the pro level, let alone the top tier he climbed to. But he knew how to maximize what he had, and dial conditioning in crazy sick, when many others couldn't.

Look, he's doing what 99% of the wannabe tough guys NEVER do in the gym...and that is the reason he will always be one of the greats. His lifts are moderately heavy, form is perfect and he's "in the zone." The guy who mentored me 30 years ago idolized him. Lee wasn't in my top 3 favorite bodybuilders when I was a young lifter, but that's not to say I haven't always admired his disciple and training methods. He never claimed any outrageous numbers in his lifts and his diet/resting routine was bland, boring and a means to an end. His program of lifting, eating and resting was exactly what is required to achieve this physique. Steroids? Absolutely! He was NEVER dishonest about using hormones, peptides, PEDs and insulin; but those are ancillary and merely a tool to enhance the results of the hours of daily dedication to hard work and refined nutrition. There's a perpetual myth that one can do cycles of steroids, lift heavy and (miraculously) wake up one day looking like an Arnold Schwarzenegger. You won't..ever. Lift moderately heavy weights 4-5 days per week. Eat 6-8 high protein, high carb, low fat meals every day. Get 7-9 hours sleep each day, with short naps during the day, whenever possible. Do not take steroids unless you are over 25 years old AND you've put on at least 30 pounds of muscle, while having 3-5 years of experience in the weight room. If you start steroids the same time you begin lifting, you'll get phenomenal size and strength, but you will quickly lose it once the steroids have been processed out of your system. That's a fact. Lee is still huge today because he got that way decades ago without shortcuts. I'm happy to know he's still a role model to many lifters, young and old.
