I'd agree that Lee Sin getting little additions like unique sound effects in water shouldn't be expected for future Champions/ASUs. They will add things to random Champions just because they can, but not make it a new precedent. One example is Sylas having a "stop Recalling" animation on his base skin, where he pulls his chains free of the petricite blocks. Not only has this not been given to any other Champion since then, this doesn't even apply to his own skins. Then there's also Zoe who has a ton of unique animations: multiple idle animations, multiple walking animations, multiple long-walk animations, multiple "stop walking" animations, different facial expressions. With Zoe, they expressly wanted to push the boundary on how many animations they could give a Champion. But no other Champion since comes close to having this level of variety. Technically, Aphelios has more animations because of all of the different gun combinations and gun-swapping animations, but he doesn't have animations the way Zoe does. So, anyway, yeah, I say don't expect every Champion and ASU to receive the attention that they gave Lee Sin. Just because they've proven they can, doesn't mean they'll be inclined to do so for everyone.

If memory serves, his oldest lore story had him self immolating in opposition to the Noxian invasion of Ionia. It was a reference to the now infamous time Thich Quang Duc did it in opposition to the persecution of Buddhists in the Vietnam war.

It was also seen as intensely controversial, because Tibetan monks in the 2000s also self-immolated in protest to Chinese occupation of Tibet. Kind of bad for one of League's most popular champions to reference evil China when China made up most of Riot's player base, even back then.

An interesting blind character to me is Malenia from Elden ring. In her second phase we see that she doesn’t have her eyes anymore as a result of her worsening rot (sickness that she was cursed with at birth) and she doesn’t actually have a way to see anymore. This isn’t confirmed in writing but given that a lot of her attacks involve her waving her sword in front of her in an imprecise way, she has a large attack which circles her, making sure it hits regardless of her enemies position and also the fight takes place in ankle deep water so she can hear you (and potentially feel ripples as she is barefoot). All of this with the fact that while she still had her vision she was actually trained by a blind swordswoman which explains why she can fight so well despite losing her vision. I really like her because A. She was the hardest boss in the game (before the dlc came out) and B. She doesn’t have some super sense alternate vision power that alleviates her blindness and you can tell that from cues in her movement, the environment the fight takes place in and lore which you find in random items rather than it being explained to you directly like “malenia is now blind and has super senses to be able to battle you”

if i recall from the old lore, back when the LEAGUE OF LEGENDS was cannon, i think Lee got sever burns (which made him blind) when he lit himself on fire to protest against the noxian invasion. I think its a reference that has happened to the fact that there have been real world monks that have set themselves on fire in protest to things. An ex i found when looking was back in 2009, a monk set them selves on fire over the Chines occupation of Tibet, and like 100 more monks would do over the following years.

Love seeing the lore perspectives from your videos cuz it dives back into a champs lore that I have forgotten. Lee's lore does feel weirdly inconsistent like they want to push it in too many directions and stumbled trying to take those steps. Seeing you talk about league gameplay wise is uh interesting those sure are takes about the game but I agree with Lee Sin being such a well designed champion for how simple his kit is.

6:31 you just reminded me of a rework concept that better adds his themes into his gameplay while keeping his functional gameplay, while he plays is fair and mostly well designed it's also doesn't really fit the blind monk, just some monk who's wearning a blindfold. An concept I had is Passively Lee sin's vision radius is reduced or none existent, instead hearing is increased and areas, enemies, allies and monsters you touch turn into something that looks like what lee sin would imagine it looking like, letting you see from a different perspective, I didn't realise his kit had true sight that could be added as in his magic is power enough to give him temporary accurate sight of what he effected, so if you can predict what you hear like he does you'll be rewarded. The problem with this Really cool concept is takes alot of time and his gameplay will be sort of revamped, But since unlike me Riot is a Billon dollar company they have the capability to due this concept justice Right? they would care about character theming with gameplay by caring for their stories right? they wouldn't just forget a key aspect of Lee sin that they just don't use, despite having the same idea with Yuu and Mii that actually got added in and just leave him as a cash monk Right? RIGHT!?

11:10 Didn't know about water effects in sound design, but now it reminded me of my resent thought of how cool it could be if Riot could figure out a way to implement the same subtle or not so interaction with environment for characters abilities or passives too, like Kennen dealing extra damage to enemies if they are standing in river or being able to lessen damage from Brands fire by stepping in water. Haven't thought of other elements yet and I know that it would require precise balancing, but it would make nice extra details.

I remember that! iirc that was the OLD old lore, Lee Sin was training to be a summoner (remember summoners? That's how old we're talking), but one day he went and picked "defenseless child" as his champion, who then spawned into the game as "writhing mass of flesh." I think in the original incarnation of the story that event also blinded him, and then in a slightly later incarnation he burned his own eyes out as penance. I could be wrong tho

Idk how everyone is getting his old lore wrong? His old lore (not the OG one with summoners and "The League of Legends", the one after that, when Riot tried to retcon summoners out of the League universe) was that he was a martial arts monk in Ionia, but he, like everybody in Ionia, opposed Noxian occupation, so in protest, he set himself on fire, and it burned his eyes. This was *_SUPER_* problematic as it mirrored real-life self-immolation that Tibetan monks would commonly do in protest of Chinese occupation of Tibet. Even back before Tencent bought Riot, this was seen as HUGELY controversial to include in the lore, due to the fact that China makes up a large amount of Riot's playerbase, so when Lee got his ASU, they changed his lore.

As a young teen, Lee Sin was intent on becoming a summoner. His will and dedication were unmatched by any of his peers, and his skill drew the attention of Reginald Ashram, the League's High Councilor at the time. While studying at the Arcanum Majoris, Lee Sin became frustrated with instruction paced for the other students. He spent his free time researching the nuances of summoning in hopes of graduating sooner. He made amazing advances in his arcane studies, surpassing all other students. By all indications, he would have become one of the League's greatest summoners were it not for one terrible mistake. Too impatient, he attempted to test his ability by summoning a beast from the Plague Jungles. What he summoned instead was a young boy, but not in one piece. He barely had time to look the boy in what was once his face before the jumbled human mass fell lifeless to the floor. A League investigation later revealed that the boy's entire village was obliterated by feedback from the ritual. Lee Sin's talents were so promising that the League was willing to overlook the incident, but he could never forgive himself. He left the Institute and journeyed to the Shojin Monastery for eternal repentance, swearing never to practice magic again. Years later, hoping to atone for his crime with martyrdom, he set himself ablaze as a protest of the Noxian occupation of Ionia. He remained alive in this state, enduring searing agony for weeks. His actions paved the way for a League match wherein Ionia prevailed, but by the time he was doused, his eyes had been burned completely from their sockets. Hailed as a savior, he was reborn, and his will to act invigorated. He joined the League of Legends to continue his atonement with sweat and blood, a true monk's only possessions. 3:22 I mean like yeah since both platonic and Romantic( whatever that is) are important, though I believe there is around 5 romantical relationships, like Graves and TF, Moon and sun lesbians(Diana and Leona), Xayah and Rakan, Lucian and Senna, Garen and Katarina(though I wished they both were actually developed to make that relationship chemestry be intersting, I had a concept of giving garen an actual character with him being a caring HImbo, easily influenced by his community's laws because he's such a Fanboy and katarina is a Caring though more distant calm head, who prefers being alone due to betrayal, She loves garen for being a person she can guenely trust and is autistic and garen loves her for being so Uniquely amazing). Others that are on the Iffy zone, build up or I personally don't really like them, Like yasuo and Ahri I prefer them being being friends as Ahri's cheeky gremlin behaviour with Yasuo's seriousness works better as a friend dynamic by also adding unique bond, Neeko and Nidalee they're getting there. Anyway yeah I do understand it just isn't as oversaturated Mr Aroace demon. I'm gonna use this as excuse to realise some build up idea concept and also add to a Point: I made a character V who is basically the Thorfinn of Runterra, mainly after his main chapters of getting to his wanting of a better future, He is too briar a teacher of control as he himself both had to overcome it and also uses hemomancy(I hate that Riot forgot entirely that Briar is a thing made out of Hemonacy and didn't take adavatage to show that) but unlike the more Greedy, prideful users who only use blood magic to hurt, deeming or make themselves better at the cost of others like parasites, He instead uses it to heal others. Anyway, to Briar he's a Mysterious hot bud, she wants to do thing not rated for the game, though because it's her first time ever finding a person sexually attractive to build on her humanity(though not being into sex doesn't make you inhuman, it's more an exception as typically living things seek to reproduce, including individuals, or have an affity for sexual intamacy so it's more of an addition to it)she actually is timid as she doesn't want to step overbounderies or well wanting to hurt him atleast when she's in control that is, her uncontrolled form goes for what she wants. Anyway V is intended mainly as a character who also happens to be a love interest, teaching the abused Briar about romantical relationships, giving him having that with her a purpose as it serves to enhance what I said about her character arc, Now Platonic is also important so I'd say something similar would happen with talon but talon isn't into her and also emotionally dead, so she's gets the denji thing of despite seeing Talon as sexually attractive, she feels nothing when a situation leans on it, just caring about him part not him and the sex.(which also teach Talon theres more to life than perfection and ruining people's lives both figuravely and litterarly) That is my thought on romance added, it should ofcourse like any story detail serve a purpose than just be filled in, same with a friendship.

So, in Lee Sin's original lore, he was attempting to use summoning magic to summon a cool beast pet from the Plague Jungles (whatever the hell those are). He messed up and summoned a child instead, but the kid was in pieces, literally just a mass of human body parts. The magic also backfired and killed everyone in the kid's village. Later, hoping to atone for his mistakes, Lee set himself on fire to protest the Noxian invasion of Ionia, which is an EXTREMELY PROBLEMATIC thing to do as it's based off of the ACTUALLY REAL monk Thích Quảng Đức who set himself on fire to protest the persecution of Buddhists by the South Vietnam government. Yikes.

Lee Sin definitely deserved an ASU. His old model looked like his muscles were rolled up bits of playdoh on a wire frame mannequin. Also the sound quality part reminds how Blizzard put some more effort in the sound quality in OW2 from OW1 depending on where you are in the maps.
