Really? Napoleon conquered most of Europe while defeating some of the most strategically sound generals in history that were, themselves, hamstrung by dysfunctional coalitions. Lee couldn't beat Meade. The best general in the western hemisphere? Jesus. Lee was an incredible general, tactician, and person, but there is no need for crazy hyperbole.

If anyone should be considered the “American Napoleon” in this war, it’s Grant. The thing about Napoleon wasn’t just his flashy tactical brilliance, but also a keen mind on the strategic big picture. Lee was alright in the former, but severely lacking in the latter. In all of his impressive victories (against frankly sub par Union commanders) he continually lost more men than the south really could afford to lose. Grant on the other hand was a lot more clever than people give him credit and most importantly, had a brilliant strategic mind. Even when set back, Grant found ways to make the best of the situation, and this was something Lee could never cope with.

Napoleon started out as a corporal from Corsica and became emperor of France and conquered a good part of Europe. Napoleon lead armies several times larger then Lee and won against several countries. In the end it took 5 nations to win again Napoleon and France. I do not see the similarities to Lee here which was a local general in Virginia.

To determine if Robert Lee was a great and honorable man is subjective. However, we do have the insight of time and past events to answer that question. Mr. Lee is responsible for killing thousands of soldiers of the United States of America. The same U.S. soldiers that stormed the beaches on D-Day to stop Nazi Germany. The same U.S. soldiers that were killed in the jungle of Vietnam. The same U.S. soldiers that destroyed Saddam’s Army in the desert of Iraq. We owed our freedom to every U.S. soldier past and present; and honor their sacrifice every Veteran and Memorial Day. Mr. Lee should only be remembered as a Confederate Officer who put many of those brave U.S. soldiers in ground of Arlington and a traitor as outline by United States Constitution.

Traitor no his state left the union so he resigned from the u.s. military and went with his home state. If Lee was a traitor why did he not get his day in court ? What about Jeff Davis and all the others in leadership? And all the wars you listed keep in mind many of those U.S. soldiers killed were descendants of the many thousands of Confederate soldiers killed by United states government brother against brother so you are wrong the war between the states is not same as the wars you listed . Our founding fathers were Englishmen or British subjects they are just as much as traitors as those boys in gray. Robert E Lee besides being a great military commander was also a great example to the confederacy that when the war was over it was time to move on stop fighting and be a loyal citizen of the united states again.
